The SIXTH Tea Room - Everyone Welcome

Jacksmama · 21/03/2009 00:18

The One Child Tea Room started as a sort of sanctuary for anyone who was a bit tired of the controversy surrounding having one child only, for whatever reason. The topic seems to attract that sort of thing. So we thought we needed a place where a cup of tea and a muffin and a place to sit down and relax was needed - and judging by the number of visitors and regulars, it really was much needed!

The tea room has since undergone a few, shall we say, metamorphoses... it started as a charming bricks and mortar sort of place, with a lovely English garden, a ha-ha in the distance, and wonderful mismatched crockery.

But since the tea room is truly magical, at night, the glitter ball comes out, and booze and sofas canapees are served. During the daytime, there is a stable with (at last count) two horses, Earl and Lady Grey, who appreciate being exercised. We also have (at last count) two guinea pigs, RacingPig and RacingMissPiggy... but since they seem to have been up to no good, that count may increase shortly.

In its most recent incarnation, the tea room became a yurt, and we had Mellors The Gardener show up in buckskin trousers and no shirt (which caused several of the regulars to either fan themselves with whatever magazines were available, or faint prettily, preferably into Mellors' arms), and there seems to have been an errant bison or two.
Oh, and we also had the Naked Mohawk Babies - they were originally cake decorations (for the life of me, I cannot find the link right now) - and they have since taken on lives of their own, adding much amusement to the tea room.

Decorations include cut-outs of George Clooney, Wesley Snipes, and any other hunks of burning love we can think of. Oh, and peace lilies, and (since nothing seems to be able to kill the damn thing) an aspidistra.

For those who are shy of company, or fleeing controversial threads, we have a Priest Hole to hide relax in.

Please remember that the tea room is magical - no amount of Bolly swilled will cause a hangover, allergies of any type mean nothing, so you can eat and drink whatever you like, and if you don't fancy the distressed-looking couch, a brand-new comfy arm chair will appear in seconds.

EVERYONE is welcome, whether you have one child, none, or ten. In fact, one of our regulars is currently pregnant!!

The only strict rule we enforce is no fisticuffs. Anyone who behaves disagreeably will be ejected by Mellors (fully clad).

Most important of all - the tea room is meant for fun and support. It's perfectly acceptable, and in fact, mandatory, to be a little unhinged yourself.

Welcome all!!

(I've had a somewhat trying day so I will leave the crating and moving of china, and the actual shaping of the tea room, to everyone else... I did hear rumours of a spa being added, however, so please, book me in for a pedicure, will you? Thanks!)

What is airbrush leg stuff? I am bracing myself for the end of the opaque tights season and need to prepare!

What's your choice? Merlot? Cabernet-Merlot? or Chateauneuf de la Carotte?

CMOTdibbler · 05/04/2009 21:46

This. I'd spend my life in opaques given the chance, but apparently they aren't elegant. And don't go with the shoes.

I totally fail to ever get fake tans to work properly, and always end up patchy.

I have commenced leg epilation activities again - the more you do it, the less it hurts, and is worth it for the length of time it works for

I'll pass on the Carotte - Merlot would be perfect.

Night out tomorrow at the conference. Must remember that I must not, under any circumstances tell the UK Sales director that he is a slimy scumbag. Even after a few glasses of wine. It'll be rather odd - I used to live in the city we will be in and we (as in colleagues) will be staying at the hotel I got married in

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/04/2009 22:02

Ooh! That looks nice. I agree that opaques aren't elegant, although I delude myself firmly believe that, with the right shoes, opaque tights in a toning colour do add a certain je ne sais quoi to an outfit. And it has to be said that 10 denier tights with a conspicuous ladder aren't elegant either .

That conference scenario sounds very interesting, Cmot. Drink - toxic colleague - wedding nostalgia. A potent brew!

thumbbunny · 05/04/2009 22:09

Ta for explanation MadBad - I'll have some of the cab merlot if that's still available, ta!

epilating - yowch - never. I believe there is some evidence to suggest that if you bang your head against a brick wall long enough, that ceases to hurt as well but I've never fancied that much either .
I tried Veet depilating, I tried sugaring, I tried cold waxing, I tried beauty therapist hot waxing - in the end I alwasy go back to the razor. They only get shaved about every 4 weeks or so because I am so lucky - I have very fine, very blonde leg hair - it does get visible when it's long but not when it's short and I NEVER do above the knee, don't need to.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/04/2009 22:23

here's a glass of wine, Thumb.

I wonder how Mistlejunior's party went today?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/04/2009 22:24

Gah!

v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v- (single-spaced bunting, as double-spaced crosses itself out, evidently)

thumbbunny · 05/04/2009 22:27

either way, good bunting, looks lovely!
Hope MT has survived the day...

cin cin, mille grazie.

My Italian gets worse - my stock phrase now is "Ho dimenticato tutti" - I have forgotten everything. So true...

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/04/2009 22:43

I was very worried when I gave my Italian tutorial, Thumb, that you probably knew more than me. There seem to be lots of linguists around here. My favourite line is 'Non sono andata mai in Italia. I miei bagagli sono persi'. None of which, of course, is true.

Cin cin. Put out more flags! v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-

Chocolate carrots?

Good grief - where is the crunch?

Donk · 05/04/2009 23:19

Night night all

(Question. Are cyber yawns as contagious as the RL variety?)

Well, we never got any balloons up.... We decided that the house etc came at a very low priority compared to dh's interview and required presentation. So this morning I have a lie in (until 7.30!), then manage to do some more to the cake whilst dh and ds get dressed then sweep up some leaves and stuff of the terrace etc - then I took ds and dog out while dh carried on working on presentation. Then ds and I decorated buns and sorted out icing for the decorating biscuits option - then had lunch and ds was really good at settling down ot have a rest (on the promise that we'd wake him in good time). I then set up the easter egg hunt, finished assembling the cake, dh made sandwiches... (oh, and btw, we sorted out shortbread for one of the friends that doesn't eat egg) and made bread dough for the pizzas - mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumber etc etc etc.

Dh had a shower - I was hoping to nip up afterwards, but managed to put a clean shirt on ds (dh hadn't noticed evidently) and the first guests arrived early!!! We left ds amusing every one in the garden (climbing frame and swing, footballs etc) - then stated getting people to make their own pizza and decorate the biscuits.

The easter egg hunt went really well - then food seemed to go well too! And I think that ds liked the cake, not quite sure - although several parents were complimentary!

Chaos trying to get party bags organised with the right biscuits in the right bag together with the monster of choice... At least that sent all the artificial colouring home - although the biscuit icing was natural colour....

Absolutely shattered - had to go to choir rehearsal though - concert Friday.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/04/2009 23:39

Well done, Mistle! Sounds like a fabulous party. Would you like a glass of wine, a relaxing shoulder massage with Mellors or both?

What's the programme for Friday's concert?

thumbbunny · 05/04/2009 23:51

well done for surviving it all MT! Did you take any photos of the monsters?

It annoys me far too much when people turn up early unless they are my bestest friends who can be put to work helping get everything ready - I always work to the last minute possible (I know, 7Ps ) so even 10 mins early can make me unnecessarily frazzled!

Don't anyone talk to me about Lindt bunnies - my collection of little bell collars is growing steadily and there's still a week to go!

mistlethrush · 06/04/2009 00:03

Have some photos of the monsters - need to upload and dh has that option on his computer - will have to wait until he is back.

Madbad - yes, a glass of wine would be good, and I might well ask Mellors if he might be available for a shoulder massage....

YumYumMummy · 06/04/2009 00:14

Completely tangential.... (excuse couple of glasses)

Deep breath, been watching some threads on MN for a few days... some have made me a tad trepitadious on diving in.... others have seemed constructive.... should I take the plunge on this one for parent(s) of only's? Or should I nip a potential addiction in the bud?

thumbbunny · 06/04/2009 00:20

ooh, well that's a tough decision YYM - it is a bit addictive this thread cos it's like a club where you know everyone and so you have to keep up with what people are doing - but it's ever so easy to join and we are all very nice and friendly - there are Rools about No Sparring/Bitching/Sniping at each other cos we want to keep it Sanctuarial - so go on, dive in!

Have a glass of your favourite tipple - the Tea Room of Requirement has whatever you need. And quite a lot else besides!

YumYumMummy · 06/04/2009 00:26

thumbbunny - are you in Marketing? If not, you should be. Sounds good to me!

thumbbunny · 06/04/2009 00:28

Lol - that's a lovely thing to say YYM - I have never considered a career in marketing because I couldn't sell something I didn't truly believe in - so there you go, I must really believe in the Tea Room as being a top place to hang out!

YumYumMummy · 06/04/2009 00:41

I can feel an addiction looming....

Have had a quick look at previous posts - everyone seems to have busy and exciting lives

Is staring at wall with mouth open (given half a chance) a factor that would exclude one?

thumbbunny · 06/04/2009 00:44

heavens no! You can just claim to be dreaming of your villa in France/Italy/Spain/wherever... no problem!
Dunno about busy and exciting life - I seem to spend an inordinate amount of my life on MN < with self>

YumYumMummy · 06/04/2009 01:00

Feel like I'm on a cusp similar to my first drag of a cigarette (which was many many many years ago and since snubbed)....

Italy is my choice.

But will need to retire soon so that can successfully pursue wholesome and memory inducing activiies with only DD tomorrow before return to work on Tuesday

Of course

Thanks for welcome!
