The SIXTH Tea Room - Everyone Welcome

Jacksmama · 21/03/2009 00:18

The One Child Tea Room started as a sort of sanctuary for anyone who was a bit tired of the controversy surrounding having one child only, for whatever reason. The topic seems to attract that sort of thing. So we thought we needed a place where a cup of tea and a muffin and a place to sit down and relax was needed - and judging by the number of visitors and regulars, it really was much needed!

The tea room has since undergone a few, shall we say, metamorphoses... it started as a charming bricks and mortar sort of place, with a lovely English garden, a ha-ha in the distance, and wonderful mismatched crockery.

But since the tea room is truly magical, at night, the glitter ball comes out, and booze and sofas canapees are served. During the daytime, there is a stable with (at last count) two horses, Earl and Lady Grey, who appreciate being exercised. We also have (at last count) two guinea pigs, RacingPig and RacingMissPiggy... but since they seem to have been up to no good, that count may increase shortly.

In its most recent incarnation, the tea room became a yurt, and we had Mellors The Gardener show up in buckskin trousers and no shirt (which caused several of the regulars to either fan themselves with whatever magazines were available, or faint prettily, preferably into Mellors' arms), and there seems to have been an errant bison or two.
Oh, and we also had the Naked Mohawk Babies - they were originally cake decorations (for the life of me, I cannot find the link right now) - and they have since taken on lives of their own, adding much amusement to the tea room.

Decorations include cut-outs of George Clooney, Wesley Snipes, and any other hunks of burning love we can think of. Oh, and peace lilies, and (since nothing seems to be able to kill the damn thing) an aspidistra.

For those who are shy of company, or fleeing controversial threads, we have a Priest Hole to hide relax in.

Please remember that the tea room is magical - no amount of Bolly swilled will cause a hangover, allergies of any type mean nothing, so you can eat and drink whatever you like, and if you don't fancy the distressed-looking couch, a brand-new comfy arm chair will appear in seconds.

EVERYONE is welcome, whether you have one child, none, or ten. In fact, one of our regulars is currently pregnant!!

The only strict rule we enforce is no fisticuffs. Anyone who behaves disagreeably will be ejected by Mellors (fully clad).

Most important of all - the tea room is meant for fun and support. It's perfectly acceptable, and in fact, mandatory, to be a little unhinged yourself.

Welcome all!!

(I've had a somewhat trying day so I will leave the crating and moving of china, and the actual shaping of the tea room, to everyone else... I did hear rumours of a spa being added, however, so please, book me in for a pedicure, will you? Thanks!)

Donk - Homestart and Surestart would be my suggestions too for your friend. I think they can act as an introduction point for other agencies.

This carrot is very tasty, thanks, but I think I'll move on to the crisps and twiglets. Would anyone care for a glass of wine?

mistlethrush · 04/04/2009 21:29

Definitely - although in RL I might have to wait a little while until I've made a few more monsters!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 04/04/2009 21:46

Glass of merlot coming up, Mistle.

How are the monsters? Tip: go for the impressionistic approach, rather than the anatomically detailed!

Cin, cin!

thumbbunny · 04/04/2009 22:38

ooh, merlot? My favourite red grape.
The only part of Sideways that I didn't appreciate was their snobbishness about Merl-oh.
MadBad - please enlighten my ignorance on the Cin cin thingy - I always thought it was chin chin???

Donk, I have no further suggestions than have already been given, unless your friend wants to get in a Polish au pair fairly cheaply - that might work.

MT - what sort of Monsters? and can you post a photo of them on your profile? please?
I assume the presentation that MrMT has been working on is for his interview - is it going well?

UniS · 04/04/2009 22:52

bye cat- I hope you survive trial by relative.

Many many monsters?? Is this cake monsters?

Yummy hot choc donk. you are remarkably dexterous in the kitchen with those hooves.

NCT nearly new sale today- I put in 3 bags of clothes and a high chair- every thing sold bar 1 red fleece hat, 1 pair orange slippers, 1 white jumper and a baby sleeping bag in purple tartan. My price to clear policy worked. I shall get peanuts, NCT shall get even smaller peanuts and someone got a very cheap high chair.

mistlethrush · 04/04/2009 22:57

I will do a picture and try to post... It will be a pile of monsters - one to go home in each party bag... Much colouring involved but I'm going to send them home with it!!!! I have rather blue fingers this evening... I've done 3 red, 3 green and 3 blue - got some yellow coloured up, need to do 6 more or so. Called it a day tonight. Will ahve to finish off after lunch tomorrow (will have to have an early lunch!)

Just have cheese, ham and jam sandwiches to make tomorrow....

Crossing fingers for good weather !!!!

thumbbunny · 04/04/2009 23:10

fingers crossed for you MT!
Cheese, ham and jam, hey? not altogether in one sandwich, I presume?

UniS - good selling! I am a mean caaahhh and refuse to sell anything via NCT as I'd rather give my sister the money. But I have never had anything to do with NCT at all so fair enough.

Jackbunnysmama · 05/04/2009 00:32

thumbbunny, I laughed at your word "hideosity" (of Catita's trip). Very descriptive!

I am having the loveliest day.

I am having nearly six hours of me-time!!

I worked this morning, which is not normally a cause for celebration (only of the money earned, usually), but I was given two bottles of Cabernet-Merlot by a patient for my birthday next week!

Would anyone like some?

After work, I went to a relatively new Yoga studio I've heard wonderful things about, and did their Warm/Flow class. It's not quite like Bikram's Yoga, which is done in a horribly overheated room, it's more like a gentle warmth in the room - you do sweat eventually though. And the moves were dynamic poses all strung together so it was quite the work-out. I feel so good!! I've had so many aches and pains, and have felt at least 75 years old since my surgery, and right now I'm blissfully relaxed and tired. And Jackspapa has taken JB to MIL's, and won't be back for a few more hours, so I'm shortly going to have a nap (unless I get stuck MNing ), and the sun is shining and it's glorious outside. And my house is tidy and relatively clean... so, while I could do some cleaning (bathrooms, floors) it's not a complete tip, so I won't.

thumbbunny · 05/04/2009 00:39

oh JBM - how fabulous! I wish I could find something that would make me feel less like a 86 year old - my back is in such a mess and I have been banned from yoga by my osteopath, not without reason. I had a book called Yoga For Wimps (for the Flexibly Challenged) and I put three thoracic vertebrae out on the second move!
Pathetic.

I was playing on the floor with DS today - we have a new game called Boom! where we bump together at the tummy/chest and see who falls over. DS has realised he can push me over (if I let him) and after 3 or 4 times of being pushed over (from a sitting-with-legs-outstretched position) my R SI joint was killing me. I hate my SI joints, especially the R one. Although I'm not fond of the L one either.

Any wine most welcome, ta..

Jackbunnysmama · 05/04/2009 00:46

I've had SI joint issues, following a car accident when I was 20, and following JB's birth when my pelvic floor was non-existent. My right one especially was hypermobile while the left one was completely stuck. I had one episode when I bent over the freezer (bottom of the fridge), heard a sort of crunchy click, and walked over to the couch, and those were the last pain-free steps I took for a couple of days. It was truly a professional eye opener to experience what some of my patients go through.
What eventually fixed it was having prolotherapy (injecting a combination of lidocaine and dextrose into the joint). The lidocaine is a local anaesthetic, and the dextrose, a form of sugar, acts as a local irritant to cause targeted inflammation and scar tissue formation, which can help to stabilize joints, or even repair injured tendons and ligaments. Could you maybe find someone who does prolotherapy in your area? Here in the Land of Maple Syrup, some naturopathic physicians do it.

thumbbunny · 05/04/2009 01:03

ooh, never heard of prolotherapy! Interesting. Will investigate.

I apparently have an unstable pelvis. When I started seeing my osteo some 11 years ago my back was a double S bend, due to various influences over my life, and my L SI was completely stuck. Then I got sciatica a few years ago and have never properly recovered as whenever pelvis is straightened/released, it gets screwed up again fairly quick. Have some hypermobility in my joints so muscles have a tendency to over-compensate by holding on reeeeaaallly tight. Buggers. Makes treatment "interesting". Let's just say my osteo is really looking forward to me going to Australia!

teafortwo · 05/04/2009 02:05

I ad no ideea unttil yestday and today how cleva fumbbunni iz. She dos know wew cleva stuf lick spelings and Pinochet's cat and Goldfish nayme and food (chek owt the blogg) and over realy good sturf to.....

thumbbunny · 05/04/2009 17:01

at t42 - I was being a bit prolific again, was I?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/04/2009 19:06

Phew! Just had another super session in the garden with Mellors. What a boy!

Glad to hear everyone's been having a good time. I used to love NCT sales but have sadly reached the point where they have little to offer us. I used to sell stuff there because MadBadBaby was the youngest child in our family or circle of friends so I had nobody to pass her stuff onto, but a friend has just adopted a toddler and so she now gets all MBB's outgrown stuff.

Thumbbunny - It's cin cin because it's Italian and ci in Italian is pronounced like the English ch. So it is pronounced chin chin.

Speaking of which, there's still some of last night's Merlot - I had forgotten that they disparage it in Sideways, bah! - or the rather excellent Cabernet-Merlot which Jackbunnysmama so generously brought in to share. Would anyone care for a glass? First day of the Easter holiday tomorrow, so I may need some booze to get me through.

Donk · 05/04/2009 19:17

I don't suppose there is any good carrot wine going?
[fussy donkey emoticon]

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/04/2009 19:36

I have rummaged in the tea room's well-stocked cellar and found this bottle of Chateauneuf de la Carotte. Would that be acceptable?

Donk · 05/04/2009 20:24

Aaaah! Chateauneuf de la Carrotte!
Delicious.
(Knowing my luck it will be corked!)

No, that smells wonderful, it just needs to breathe for a while.

I can't wait any longer - anyone else for a little wine?

Donk · 05/04/2009 20:24

Thankyou MadBad
Cheers!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/04/2009 20:32

Glad you like it! Cheers! Oh, can you manage that glass or would you prefer a galvanised bucket?

And we have an assortment of carrot-based snacks. Carrot crisps and raw carrots in shades of yellow, orange and purple.

CMOTdibbler · 05/04/2009 21:08

Cheers !

Am waiting for pink toenail varnish to dry. Am not very patient about this, but in the interests of wearing new shoes tomorrow at a conference, needs must.

Had a lovely day, lunch up on the Cotswolds in a fab pub, DS in a particularly lovey mood. We do seem to have acquired an imaginary mole which must be kept warm and looked after...

Donk · 05/04/2009 21:09

A bucket would be easier - but I still have flashbacks to the effects of a bucket of Mistle's (I think it was she) brandied hot chocolate.

Perhaps if you don't pour too much in...

Carrot crisps sound interesting.

Donk · 05/04/2009 21:09

How are your spuds doing CMOT?

CMOTdibbler · 05/04/2009 21:21
MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/04/2009 21:22

Am envious of painted toe nails.

Here's a bijou little bucket, Donk, it holds no more than, oh, a pint of Chateauneuf de la Carotte.

Yes, how are your spuds, Cmot? I've just been educating myself on the rhubard thread in Gardening.

Would you like a glass of wine as you waggle your drying toes in the air?

CMOTdibbler · 05/04/2009 21:27

Yes please ! I wouldn't normally bare my feet this early, but need to wear the new patent shoes, and they were not fit to be seen otherwise. My legs need a coat of airbrush leg stuff to cover the blinding white/bruises/spider veins too - but will zap that on in the morning

We have a lurking rhubarb crown in the corner of the garden, but I just buy mine in the firm knowledge it has only travelled 2 miles.

Mother has just updated me on this weeks planting. I am unsure why they need to plant 7 varieties of potato for the two of them. You see why I am the gardening black sheep
