The SIXTH Tea Room - Everyone Welcome

The One Child Tea Room started as a sort of sanctuary for anyone who was a bit tired of the controversy surrounding having one child only, for whatever reason. The topic seems to attract that sort of thing. So we thought we needed a place where a cup of tea and a muffin and a place to sit down and relax was needed - and judging by the number of visitors and regulars, it really was much needed!

The tea room has since undergone a few, shall we say, metamorphoses... it started as a charming bricks and mortar sort of place, with a lovely English garden, a ha-ha in the distance, and wonderful mismatched crockery.

But since the tea room is truly magical, at night, the glitter ball comes out, and booze and sofas canapees are served. During the daytime, there is a stable with (at last count) two horses, Earl and Lady Grey, who appreciate being exercised. We also have (at last count) two guinea pigs, RacingPig and RacingMissPiggy... but since they seem to have been up to no good, that count may increase shortly.

In its most recent incarnation, the tea room became a yurt, and we had Mellors The Gardener show up in buckskin trousers and no shirt (which caused several of the regulars to either fan themselves with whatever magazines were available, or faint prettily, preferably into Mellors' arms), and there seems to have been an errant bison or two.
Oh, and we also had the Naked Mohawk Babies - they were originally cake decorations (for the life of me, I cannot find the link right now) - and they have since taken on lives of their own, adding much amusement to the tea room.

Decorations include cut-outs of George Clooney, Wesley Snipes, and any other hunks of burning love we can think of. Oh, and peace lilies, and (since nothing seems to be able to kill the damn thing) an aspidistra.

For those who are shy of company, or fleeing controversial threads, we have a Priest Hole to hide relax in.

Please remember that the tea room is magical - no amount of Bolly swilled will cause a hangover, allergies of any type mean nothing, so you can eat and drink whatever you like, and if you don't fancy the distressed-looking couch, a brand-new comfy arm chair will appear in seconds.

EVERYONE is welcome, whether you have one child, none, or ten. In fact, one of our regulars is currently pregnant!!

The only strict rule we enforce is no fisticuffs. Anyone who behaves disagreeably will be ejected by Mellors (fully clad).

Most important of all - the tea room is meant for fun and support. It's perfectly acceptable, and in fact, mandatory, to be a little unhinged yourself.

(I've had a somewhat trying day so I will leave the crating and moving of china, and the actual shaping of the tea room, to everyone else... I did hear rumours of a spa being added, however, so please, book me in for a pedicure, will you? Thanks!)

Get packing those boxes. Wake up Mellors and saddle the horses, the seventh heaven tea room has materialised,rather like Captain Kirk beaming down from the Enterprise, somewhere beyond the ha ha into a neighbouring field.

Evening all,

Mistle rather bizarrely the scan gave me exactly the same due date as counting from the 1st day of my last period. Last time it varied wildly in a four week due date window. I was various due in the last week of December 2006 to the third week in January. So, I set no faith in the scan either. DS appeared on 6 Jan (ECS after a uninspiring and prolonged labour going nowhere culminating in the discovery that the reason that DS appeared to be in distress was that the cord was round his throat...). The Doc says it will be a planned CS this time seeing as I had to have a vertical rather than a horizontal section due to many complications. She wants me have him//her at 37 weeks, but I think I'll be holding out for 38 or even 39 if I can.
Passing the magic 11 week mark has made me a whole lot more optimistic. Last time I made it this far, DS stayed around for the duration. Hopefully this will be repeated this time.

psssssssst - The lid was firmly on so lady did not get wet... just a rather nasty and surprising bump on the head from evian bottle - which is bad enough!

Today on the smooth, slick, sexy Eurostar back to Paris Milk wanted to do up the lid on a water bottle. She always does the thread a bit craply and it always always always leaks if she does it so I wanted to do it up after her before putting it into my handbag. I had just managed to do it up when Milk noticing what I was upto whipped said bottle from my hands screamed "NO MILK DO IT!" and threw the bottle full force across the carriage in anger at me re-doing what she considered to be perfect work - Unfortunately it landed on a 'just so' French woman's head who said "Oh la, aiya; tut tut tut!" in a very cross way. And who can blame her??? The plastic bottle had very little water in so the scene could have been much worse but even so - what a shock!!!!

So, Milk and I said sorry and then spent the rest of the journey avoiding anyone in carriage 2 and specifically the "Oh la" lady by hiding out in the cafe carriage munching pringles in a regretful manner and when we ran out of sterling we shifted to where the bags are stored and played quietly with her new Peter Rabbit then with a girl called Eloise who joined us... Milk had cheered up by this stage so all was zen.... but still, right now, I type to you with deep and terrible shame at the whole water bottle scene....

Oh, now I know where you are! I've been to Matamoros. I spent a weekend on South Padre Isl (worst sunburn of my life) and we did a little cross-border jaunt.

Texas is indeed different. That's where I went to chiropractic college, in Dallas, TX. I spent 6 years there... wow, that seems so long ago. I left there and went home to Canada in 2001. Don't miss it at all, I have to say!!

Sorry, Catita - I meant to say congratulations on the good news about the scan. Is your date from then or your own careful dating? With scans for ds they always added days - even from week 6 - based on scans my edd would continually have been brought forwards...

Dad is rather tired with all the radiotherapy - although I think that all the travelling would be tiring him out anway, he doesn't have the stamins he used to. He is very well otherwise - thanks for asking Daisy. He had his first CT scan check up yesterday and all was well...

Cat- your boy looks lovely in his white suit. Boy had something similar to wear for a wedding when he was tiny - under 6 months, but being so young he had to be bibbed over it, was sick as soon as we got to the church and was out of the white shirt by the end of the meal.
Kids huh, they just don't thank you for nice clothes do they. Boy had a screaming fit over being expected to wear matching PJ top and trews tonight.
He had been awake for nearly 12 hours at that point so was horridly tired. He is fine in the evening till he doesn't get his own way, then meltsdown.
Prechol have got me filed as ditsy parent already.... I had only sent them half an aplication form, the half with no contact details... so they were un able to send us any notification that he had a lace or any inf on his starting... just as well I popped in yesterday afternoon to let them know he won't be with them till next tues, they had expected him yesterday morning. oops.

We hve had an offer on this house! shall be rejecting it as they are not in a procedeable position, but an offer, at last someone is interested.

Ooh, I've been to Brownsville. The American/Mexican places always confuse me. Actually Texas is just bewildering to me generally. Your photos are lovely - your DS is very cute, and congratulations on the great scan result.

Who is up for something alcofrolic ? We would be celebrating that DH has got another exam out of the way (he's doing a professional qualification which is MA equivalent, but consists of many modules), but he has a tummy bug, and isn't eating

I think I shall have to regretfully decline the starting of the new thread JM seeing as I am completely incapable of even getting my photos visible.
Plus I'm going for my lunch soon, and then to class for the afternoon. I'll not be around until tomorrow, when I think the tearoom will have disappeared tardis-like (BBC cult series reference, google Dr. Who) into a new dimension.

Can any one help me? My photos now say they are visible to all Mumsnetters, they are there in the "my photos" bit; yet on my profile there is no link to them...

What am I doing wrong here?

Yes, I'm quite near the US border with Brownsville and McAllen (Matamoros and Reynosa are the Mexican cities on our side). In fact, these places (bar airports) are the only US I know. Very Texan and very Chicano (Mexican-american) at the same time. No English is required at any point.

I am at a loss to understand the pictures. You are all on the friends list and could see the other ones. I shall just have to make them public for a while.... since I really want to show off the one of DS in his christening suit. He is such a cutie.

I shall start the Seventh Heaven Tea Room with much pleasure, probably very soon, seeing as we will be fast running out of space here. Having never started a thread before, I hope I manage it.

We'd best get packing then.

Hi Catita!! I didn't realize you're that far north of Mexico City. Are you near the US border anywhere? I am glad they didn't eat your bikkies, that would have made me . Are you still feeling ? Hopefully all that ginger helps!

Poor you Thumb re wisdom teeth!! OUCH!!! Here, have some Limoncello Gelato. And just FYI - I have a handy little rubber wine cork thingy that actually fits in the neck of a bottle of bubbly tightly enough that I don't have to drink the entire bottle in one go. Not that that's necessarily A Bad Thing if I do... unless I have to work the next day, that is!

MadBad, yes, Jackspapa is indeed called Jason. I was wondering how you knew and then read back and saw I'd written his RL name. Oh well. So in our little family we have Jason and Jackson. My first name, on the other hand, is Slavic, so doesn't really fit in with them very well!! I swore, if I ever had children, that I would give them "normal" Anglo names. I've had a lifetime of people asking me my first name and saying "huh? How do you spell that?" or seeing my name written and asking how to pronounce it... it gets old.

I'll have some sunscreen please - but I believe I'll apply it myself, thanks!

Hello all. Sorry to hear about your tooth Thumb. I'd keep up the preemptive ibroprofen if I were you, it always easier to keep pain controlled once it is under control if you see what I mean. Waiting until it hurts only makes it more difficlt.

I am feeling quite celebratory today. I went for my check up and scan and all was very well. I am 11 weeks 1 day pregnant and the baby looks just fine. Hopefully the and other complications will soon be disappearing.

JM I rather think that your package arrived in Mexico City within a week of you posting it. The delay will almost certainly have been from it passing customs (notoriously laborious.. infact we are lucky that they didn't eat the biscuits really) and then having to travel 800 km north up here. Letters/parcels posted in Mexico City tend to take at least 10 days and sometimes 3 weeks to be delivered. Hence the reason courrier services are so popular.

Ouch! for Thumb. Hope the tenderness wears off soon. And do take care about what you eat - I got an awful infection after my wisdom teeth were extracted, when a bit of MacD chicken burger got in there. (Only catering establishment in unfamiliar town. We were desperate. Please don't ask!)
