Tea Room the Nineteenth

amberlight · 02/11/2010 10:44

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

ohhhh, hot choc stirred with a candy cane. How VERY decadent. , yes please. Must remember to do that in RL some time this christmas, we have a dozen Candy canes to go on teh tree. I bought the tree into the conservatory today. Will let it defrost tomorrow and then plan to start decorations on friday.

UniS · 01/12/2010 22:20

Dungerees. I found some very funky / strange print fabric dengerees for boy when he was small. all sorts of loud tartens/ checks / stripes and even some printed with blue and green cartoon whales. I think my favourite were the patch work look ones.

asmallbunchofflowers · 01/12/2010 22:24

SmallGirl had some dungarees with purple and lime green frogs on them.

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 01/12/2010 22:24

You decadent bunch!

Have just finished icing miniT's birthday cake (no. 1) for playgroup this morning. Am impressed that it tastes pretty nice, considering it had an extra half hour in the oven; and that I managed to slice it in fairly straight lines (top and middle). Chocolate fudge icing with gold, silver and red edible glitter - I was going to get clever with it but then ran out of inspiration and time so... He'll be happy, it's chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate with a bit of raspberry jam thrown in.Grin

I have got other decorations but will use them another time, I think - I just can't get excited about cake creation! Blush

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 01/12/2010 22:26

Forgot to mention - I had the loveliest little velour dungaree suit for miniT when he was a baby - it had feet as well, it was gorgeous - was a sad day when he grew out of that! They do suit the littlies though - I love them on babies!

oxeye · 02/12/2010 00:24

Ah dungarees - when Oxboy was deciding he didn't want nappies he told me that dungarees were just plain unfair, and I couldn't disagree

Now he is adept at the whole wee/ loo thing he has asked to wear them again so we are currently enjoying a dungaree revival - lovely denim huck finn look my chap is sporting Grin

asmallbunchofflowers · 02/12/2010 00:30

Aww. I wonder whether SmallGirl would like some new dungarees, to rock the Anne of Green Gables look?

Night all.

amberlight · 02/12/2010 06:52

I was going to say, you're up early Amber!
Have a slice of rather rich chocolate cake to go with your tea. And don't forget a spoonful of honey in your tea to help with the cough [hsmile]

amberlight · 02/12/2010 07:58

thanks!!

Blimey, snow where you are as well?

OP posts:
MaryBS · 02/12/2010 08:14

Well, not really. We're having light flurries at the moment, but its still the same snow that arrived on Monday!

Am debating whether to go shopping. Its VERY icy, but we're on a main road, so should be OK, I would have thought. Plus we're due lots of snow later! Only we're starting to run out of things!

amberlight · 02/12/2010 08:31

using the car, or trekking on foot?

OP posts:
MaryBS · 02/12/2010 08:36

Using the car. Walking would be even more dangerous, as the paths are like ice rinks (had someone slip under my car just as I was about to drive off, from outside the church yesterday)

MaryBS · 02/12/2010 08:55

Change of plan, DS has just been sick. Won't be going anywhere today!

amberlight · 02/12/2010 08:59

ooo heck...not good....hope he recovers...

OP posts:
thumbplumpuddingwitch · 02/12/2010 09:46

mary, maybe that has been affecting him the last few days? Hope he is better soon..

Scout19075 · 02/12/2010 13:26

So two of my friends/acquaintances had babies over my holiday, boasting my total to three baby boys I know born since September and I've just found out about another pregnancy (due this spring). I feel strangely detached from it all....

Scout19075 · 02/12/2010 16:51

Why is it that in the spring or late fall 16 feels nice and comfortable but when there's snow outside 16 in the house feels like a freakin' refrigerator?! (Heck, I can't even convert 16 to real temperatures because my brain is so frozen!)

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 02/12/2010 17:02

Snow has arrived chez nous aussi! Wriggle's friend dropped off at 8am so have spent a lovely day whining about being cold and squabbling making snow cats and baking bread hedgehogs.

Please help yourself to a bread hedgehog and a warming mug of pumpkin-and-whatever-was-in-the-fridge soup. Or a nice Gluehwein.

Jacksmama · 02/12/2010 18:53

at converting 16 degrees to real temperatures... real according to whom? :o

Would anyone like some of the chocolate-covered popcorn I'm currently munching on? Guaranteed not to be addictive... ha ha... :o

asmallbunchofflowers · 02/12/2010 19:08

Chocolate covered popcorn?

Let's be adventurous. Nom nom nom. Shall we have some sherry to go with it?

Scout19075 · 02/12/2010 19:14

Seriously, what does 16 degrees even mean?!

Oh go on with the chocolate covered popcorn. YUM!

Mary, I think we must have the same weather pattern -- snow since we've been back, but it's hardly worth calling snow. It sure is slick, though. How's your DS?

How much snow do you have, amber?

thumb, did you take a picture of your cake creation?

Seriously, MrScout being in control of bedtime on vacation was a BBAAAADDDDD idea.

Scout19075 · 02/12/2010 19:15

small, did you ever sort out your craft ideas? Do you need some/more?
