Tea Room the Nineteenth

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

Hello Ostrich! And welcome to the tearoom - I hope you'll stay and chat, have the occasional glass of bolly/cup of tea/soup with strange-shaped rolls etc.

I have one DS who is 3 tomorrow. I have been ttc #2 for some time now; I wanted to have 2 closer together than this but it hasn't happened. Did get pg last year but MC the week before Christmas at 8w and no joy since.

My situation is different to yours as well in that DH would like to have 2, has always wanted to have 2. I am not entirely sure what will happen if we don't have 2 - I think he will accept it but who knows, and my age is against us, so I have different worries.

I have not yet got to the changed mindset - so can't help you with that - but can also add to CMOTD's comment that siblings aren't always a source of comfort and support - far from it in some cases!

Your DH may also rethink the situation - I would say too that the MC is still too recent for you both to be entirely rational about things. I assume it was very upsetting for you (both) - and that your DH doesn't want to see you go through that again (or go through it himself) - so when you are more recovered, talk to him again about it. Communication is the key - festering resentment will cause the problems you fear.

A friend of mine desperately wanted a 3rd DC - her DH was happy with the 1DS, 1DD that they had - but finally gave in and they had another DS. He couldn't have been happier, which is lovely. I'm not saying that it would necessarily be the case for your DH, but it is possible that he would be fine if you did have another DC - the thought of it is often more traumatic than the reality.

Anyway - you'll get as much support in here as you can handle, so please stay and ask away. Xmas Smile

Welcome LostOstrich, and sorry for your loss :(. Lots of excellent advice already, so I won't add to it.

Scout19075 · 03/12/2010 20:00

Welcome, LO. I'm sorry for your loss.

I am newly coming to terms with being a single-child family, so don't have any advice in addition to what these lovelies have given already. What I can say from experience, however, is please be gentle with yourself.

Scout19075 · 03/12/2010 20:01

Evening all. Mulled wine, anyone?

asmallbunchofflowers · 03/12/2010 20:09

Yes please. I'm feeling glum because I should be in France now but the snow has intervened. Our stocks of Bolly are getting dangerously low.

Twiglet surprise?

Scout19075 · 03/12/2010 20:13

Stupid snow (that everyone else seems to have but me!).

BabyScout has finally quit fighting it and has gone to sleep. WHEW! Now MrScout can hurry and get home with the Friday night take-out. Grin

My homemade mulled wine kits have turned out well -- am very pleased with myself. The ones given in the US went down a treat, so in the process of making them for my UK contingent.

asmallbunchofflowers · 03/12/2010 20:32

That's very kind but I'm happy to share. Cheers!

Has MrScout returned yet from his knightly mission?

Donki · 03/12/2010 20:35

Bon Soir Mesdames!
Comment ca va? (Can't work out how to do a cedilla!)

Mmmm Mulled wine - my bucket is over there.
Thankyou Scout

Welcome to the tea room Ostrich. Would you like any carrots? I'm sorry to hear about your MC. I can't add anything useful to the advice you've already had from the sagacious tea room habituees.

I thought I'd better take the non-alcholic option Scout, after the Affair of the Mulled Cider....Grin

The boiler is more or less functional (needs hitting occasionally with a hammer to unstick a valve!) - and should be fully cured on Monday

Scout19075 · 03/12/2010 20:42

MrScout is stopping on his way home from work. An hour late because of work drinks after monthly meeting. Am starving, so he better hurry up! (Have realized I'd had nothing but a few of BabyScout's cheerios, pringles and cookies to eat all day....Blush)

Scout19075 · 03/12/2010 20:45
asmallbunchofflowers · 03/12/2010 20:46

Oh yes please.

Scout19075 · 03/12/2010 20:51

How do they taste? I don't like them, personally....

roslily · 03/12/2010 21:00

Right I am back again. I stayed away a bit as I was being a twat. Close friend told me she was pregnant with second. Couldn't handle it well. But it is ok now.

Sorry for being silly. Didn't think I should come in here all doom and whinging.

New Kindle is brill though Wink

Scout19075 · 03/12/2010 21:02

Hi roslily! Mulled wine and mince pies?

roslily · 03/12/2010 21:04

Yes please! My first mulled wine of the season! Unfortunately not my first mince pie!

Scout19075 · 03/12/2010 21:11

So, do people like a little crust or a lot of crust on their mince pies? (Unscientific poll....)

CMOTdibbler · 03/12/2010 21:15

We have very little snow Scout, so don't feel left out. It is v parky out though.

We did mulled wine last week for a community meeting - 3 litres of it vanished v v v quickly. I was asked for the recipe several times , and then had to admit I opened wine and mulled wine syrup then heated it Blush

CMOTdibbler · 03/12/2010 21:18

Oh, little crust.

Kindle is fab isn't it Roslily? Have just been reading a free, new book on it. And you can be as gloomy as you like here. Currently I frequently am Sad

Donki · 03/12/2010 21:19

I ordered some ice-melt stuff a couple of weeks ago. The company was a bit slow dispatching it.

Then ParcelForce delivered it to the wrong house, and didn't put a card through our door to say where it was. Took me three days to find out where it had gone.

Just got back from going to get it. I asked if they had had a parcel delivered. "no, only rock salt" said the wife. Then husband arrives. No - only chainsaws he says. Someone signed for it - his name, his address. And their was ice melt all over their drive....

What sort of person accepts a delivery that isn't addressed to them, and then opens it and uses it?

I don't care if it was useful. Their drive is flat. Mine has a 1 in 6 gradient to get to the road.

Grrrr

Thief. not a nice word.

(Sorry for the rant)

(I'm annoyed Angry)

Donki · 03/12/2010 21:19

there (obviously)Blush

asmallbunchofflowers · 03/12/2010 21:21

Lovely to see you again, Roslily, but you know, don't you, that the tea room is like the Windmill Theatre (we never close) and everyone's welcome at any time, including mid-doom and gloom?

Thinking (kind of) about other people's lives. One of my pals from antenatal class had her fifth baby tonight.

Scout19075 · 03/12/2010 21:29
MaryBS · 03/12/2010 21:32

A little crust on my mince pies. Fruit and alcohol content v. important in mincemeat. Crust should be crumbly and slightly sweet, perhaps dusted with icing sugar... perhaps a lattice pattern might be nice...

Eek re: rock salt thieves. May it cause piles...

Donki · 03/12/2010 21:33

Good grief! Five babies?

roslily · 03/12/2010 21:35

That is awful- rock salt thieves. Go and pour water on it tonight-only joking.

Thanks ladies. It was so hard when she told me, I had to stand there and suddenly all these feelings came welling up. I thought I had handled it.

I like a think crust, but also lots of fruit. I have to admit to mostly preferring bought mince pies to homemade ones. Or maybe it is just MILs I don't like.
