Tea Room the Nineteenth

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

What the...?! But the oven worked before, so why wouldn't it work again???
Fingers crossed that your Dad's friend can solve this.

Any chance of a large virtual brandy, purely for medicinal purposes since I've been under a duvet most of the afternoon feeling very poorly with this cough thingy?

UniS · 01/12/2010 19:03

Oh ratz, I was hoping teh pombear would also be wearing a santa hat, thought that would look rather good.

Boy has just stomped up to his bath in a strop coz I won't respond to "give me my surprise RIGHT NOW" in the way he wished me too. Advent calender and a few treats from the christmas event we went to today seem to have taken their toll already. JOY.

Large double brandy (a rather fine cognac) coming up Amber!

Donki · 01/12/2010 19:19

I may be spending the night in here - along with the Young Donk and DH, since our central heating has just packed up...

UniS · 01/12/2010 20:04

oooppps donki. do you have a secondary heat source? or are you all going to bed now to hibernate till spring.

DH primed boy to say "sorry I was a grumpy boy" to me when I went up to say goodnight. Gotta love DH.

May I recomend this fine mulled cider here, goes excellently with gingerbread and treacle toffee.

We still have a 40 year old wall mounted gas fire in the living room - it is hardly ever used. (It was last serviced 6 weeks ago, so should be safe!)

But the rest of the household will be wusses in the morning and refuse to emerge until I have got up and put the fire back on to warm up the house!

Donki · 01/12/2010 20:12

I used to live in a house whose sole heating was a coal fire in the front room - in the mountains in Wales. It got rather chilly at times. This should be much easier. At least I don't have to clean out the grate and lay the fire before I light it. On the other hand, the ashes would come in handy for use outside as grit...

Donki · 01/12/2010 20:14

Mmmmm, mulled cider.

Thankyou UniS. Wonderfully warming.

asmallbunchofflowers · 01/12/2010 20:17

Oooh. Mulled cider. May I?

Am feeling very grumpy because SmallGirl's school closed at the first sight of a snowflake.

Anyone have any tips for getting BabyScout off to sleep on his own? He used to be so good at it then two weeks on holiday with a daddy who took over bedtime and would stay with him/count/rub his forehead until he was out or just about out.... He's been down for an hour and is oohhh so tired. Actually, I think he had just gone out when MrScout got home from work heavy door and cold blast from outside woke him, I think.

Salopettes or maybe snow suit if its an all in one.

Scout19075 · 01/12/2010 20:59

They're like overalls/coveralls -- worn under the coat.

UniS · 01/12/2010 21:06

salopettes then I guess or may be dungerees.
like [http://www.waterproofworld.co.uk/togz.htm#wdrydung these]?
Boy has some ,I call them his dungerees as he doesn't wear any other dungerees now.

Scout19075 · 01/12/2010 21:13

Close, something like this. He still wears overalls (dungerees) because I think baby/toddler boys look cute in them. And they go with just about anything.

UniS · 01/12/2010 21:21

Nice Scout. I'm seriously thinking about buying a bigger size for boy as he's nearly out grown his current ones and I don;t want to just buy the cheapy thin over trousers as I've seen how much damage his cousins did to a couple of pairs in one day out on granite rocks.

UniS · 01/12/2010 21:22

oh and re regular dungerees, agrees they are VVVV cute. Not so practical for all day every day once you are potty training or beyond, so enjoy them in the next year or 2 then wave them goodbye.

Scout19075 · 01/12/2010 21:25

BabyScout's are slightly too big for him now, in hopes they will fit all winter (with clothes underneath). And yes, I will be sad to see the overalls go with potty-training. But for now, I love him in them. Bought the next size up when we were home, in anticipation -- he doesn't have long left in his current pair.

UniS · 01/12/2010 21:36

dungarees make such a handy handle for grabbing tot by as they blithely head into trouble...

Scout19075 · 01/12/2010 21:37

Would it be wrong of me to slip BabyScout some gum gel or Calpol or possibly something adult to knock him out? Honestly, BabyScout, you're exhausted, give up the fight and go to sleep! This is most unusual. He's not screaming/crying but will throw a wobbly when we leave the room. Now he's chattering away to MrScout who's trying to sooth him....

Scout19075 · 01/12/2010 21:41

Ahh, yes, his overalls have been handles many times. Grin

Would anyone like a hot chocolate laced with a candy cane (or the adult beverage version of a candy cane) if desired?

asmallbunchofflowers · 01/12/2010 21:51

Yes please, Scout! You're making me nostalgic for all the dungarees that SmallGirl had when she was a toddler.

Aaaaahhh.
