Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

I just need to wash them, though, right? I figured those I'd mash with a fork so they're still a little chunky but not a whole raspberry, if that makes sense.

thumbwitch · 27/07/2010 15:54

Yes - but only wash them just prior to eating them - raspberries are notorious for going mouldy within hours of being washed, IME! Are they bought ones or from the garden? If from the garden it's a good idea to put them in a bowl of water for about 5-10 mins - they'll mostly float to the surface - but it will flush out any tiny weevils or spiders (we used to have teeny pale green spiders in ours, for some reason)..

I have planted 4 raspberry canes in our garden today - and I planted the blueberry bush and strawberry plants yesterday. MiniThumb loves them all and raspberries are massively expensive here (even worse than in the UK), plus I want him to suffer have the childhood pain experience of picking raspberries.

Scout19075 · 27/07/2010 15:58

Bought raspberries and blueberries. I don't garden -- at all.

CMOTdibbler · 27/07/2010 17:02

You can get thornless raspberries y'know - in the wilderness that is the end of my parents garden they have 5 different sorts

Ds has been trying to eat his own bodyweight in soft fruit lately - our local farm shop is open late enough that we can go after nursery, and then he just chooses his own tea. Raspberries, strawberries, cherries (all local) and kiwi fruit have been selected as favoured currently. Blueberries get eaten in vast quantities, and I tend to keep frozen ones in all the time

So glad to hear that Oxbloke is home. Is his kayak now hanging up to dry on the washing line?

Have no intention of bullying UnSerpent or anyone else but I have been grossly deceived by her. Will happily explain on FB.
