Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

Put in my request to join...

Scout19075 · 27/07/2010 13:31

Apologies, took BabyScout swimming and then to the grocery store for milk, BabyScout snacks and to start stocking up on yummy things for B.S. to take to camp. I have accepted all those that requested.

mistlethrush · 27/07/2010 13:36

I've put in a request to join too - I'm SR there... - at this rate I'll have to open facebook more than once a month ()

Might be a good place to have the 'final' list so that some of us (me) can find it...

Mary - would you like to go for a 'virtual' option instead of the actual, physical parcel - or at least let us each send you a favourite link for a picture or something...

Scout, I was wondering that too! Such a fab name, I can't quite believe it's a real one but I'm sure it is...

Scout19075 · 27/07/2010 14:14

She's friends with someone in the group, so I accepted her.

UniS has the same first name as I do....

How is that for cryptic!

thumbwitch · 27/07/2010 14:41

Not her then... Unless she is using a pseudonym?

I am told that I used to fall asleep lurched over my pegs (hammer and pegs toy) - apparently my mother used to nappy pin a blanket round me so I'd be warm enough - over my vyella nightie (hand made of course)!

Scout19075 · 27/07/2010 14:56

I used to just lay down and sleep anywhere, even the cold kitchn floor amongst the pots and spoons I was banging. But I had a heart condition (wasn't expected to live past 2) so would get very tired very quickly.

Very random question. I don't like blueberries but got some for BabyScout. What else do I need to do them besides was them?

I'm sure I've seen that picture on someone's profile pictures - but can't remember who

Scout - all you need to do is wash them. However, if he likes yoghurt, you could also add a few to that (or even mash them in it a bit - then there would be absolutely no choking hazard) in which case you might want to add a little honey to make sure they're sweet enough for him. Mistlechick just eats handfuls of them - but he does like his fruit...

thumbwitch · 27/07/2010 15:10

agree with MT's suggestion - you might want to just squash them a bit so that they can't choke him.

(Whaddya mean, you don't like blueberries? What's not to like? )

Scout19075 · 27/07/2010 15:20

Dunno, not a fan. That's what I was thinking -- of making a bit of a puree for plain or vanilla yogurt, until he gets used to the flavor. He's had blueberry/apple/some-other-fruit fruit pots (Organix does some wonderful fruit combos). He's getting very good at chewing, and I've gotten him some 10 months foods for camp (since he can't eat a lot of what's on offer)figuring he'll be 9.5 months on the day we head off and he's a good chewer so he'd be alright. I watch him like a hawk, though, because we had a scary choking incident when we were out at a restaurant. I was calm (my First Aid training kicked in) but on reflection later it shook me up.

Will they loose their goodness if I cook them just a bit to make a chunky puree to start with?

4M -- Assuming you are AB?

thumbwitch · 27/07/2010 15:23

She is indeed.

They will lose a bit of their goodness if you cook them, but not much. Not enough to worry about.

thumbwitch · 27/07/2010 15:23

You could just put them in the blender with the yoghurt

teafortwo · 27/07/2010 15:24

I have made my request too. For my initials think the sign for a pub on an OS map!!!

When I was a little girl my Dad told me everywhere I had ever been had been marked on the map with my initials. I checked. Indeed he was right!

GGG, so rumour has it, stands for guardian of everything glamourous and gooorggguuuwwwsss!!!

Scout19075 · 27/07/2010 15:27

Will my meat grinder attachment on the KitchenAid work -- don't have a blender and fried my hand whizzer!

FB hiccupping, tea. As soon as I can get there I'll accept you.

Anyone know how to rotate text in a pie chart in word? I can't remember how to do it!

thumbwitch · 27/07/2010 15:29

Yes - but I can't remember either - is it in a text box, that's the easiest way to do it.

Donm't know if grinder will work or not, not familiar with it.

Scout19075 · 27/07/2010 15:31

I'll give it a try and see. Can't hurt it, I'm sure.

Scout19075 · 27/07/2010 15:31

Oh, same question for raspberries....

thumbwitch · 27/07/2010 15:36

raspberries are softer and more modular, so less likely to choke him (because they'll squash easier) but if you want to go the puree/blended route, no problem.
