Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

Am loving the FB group too but very worried about its addictive potential.

meeskamooskamickeyMOUSE · 28/07/2010 01:58

Why do you have to iron?

Why does anyone iron?

Ironing is a useless annoying exercise. Clothes get wrinkled in one-tenth of the time it takes to iron them.

thumbwitch · 28/07/2010 02:34

I don't iron...
Unless it's a very special occasion and I'm wearing a super-crumply garment that really has to be ironed - then I iron it just prior to wearing it. I don't iron anything before putting it away - cos 9 times out of 10 it needs ironing again before wearing (if it needs ironing at all).

DH irons his own shirts too - I wash them and hang them on hangers so most of the creases drop out but he irons them.

I hate ironing worst of all the chores. And dusting.

Scout19075 · 28/07/2010 06:19

I hate ironing, too. Only do it when ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. I hang HubbyScout's work shirts up wet, then when dry they get put away. But still always need an iron passed over them. Grrr. And he has an annoying thing of telling me has he or I (or both) are going to bed. Double Grrr.

Can I have an "I HATE IRONING" badge, too?

amberlight · 28/07/2010 09:31

I think Mary and I are swapping RL or virtual somethings with each other as we both know how each other's minds work (well, more or less and are less likely to panic in a very aspie-like way about getting it wrong etc), so maybe the people we were originally matched up with need to be matched with each other instead??

Oxeye, get thee on FB! Great fun, and no-one's a builder called Dave so far.

Mellors, will you please stop ogling the beach maidens! So sorry, can't do a thing with him since we got here...

Hi, I have requested to join the FB group!!! Exciting! My initials are ACP.

Will read back over the stuff I missed.

MaryBS · 28/07/2010 10:20

Out of all the household tasks, I'd rather do ironing than anything else - probably because I can watch TV while I'm doing it . I have an overactive mind, and I find myself fretting about all sorts of things whilst doing cleaning etc, and I need things to occupy my mind, rather than my body.

Scout19075 · 28/07/2010 10:26

Done AandO.

mistlethrush · 28/07/2010 10:27

I don't do ironing either... except for special occasions. No point for mistlechick's tshirts etc - they go on creased, but within 5 mins they look just as uncreased as they would have looked creased had I ironed them first... M&S non-iron school shirts are remarkably good if you hang them up fairly quickly too!

UniS - you make it sound as though the day we spent together was tipping down all day - our walk was mainly dryish - having a picnic in the conservatory (with chairs, table and plates everyone please note!) satisfied Mistlechick's requirements for a picnic (!) - I know that you got wet on the way home from the rec - but we had managed quite a bit fairly dry before then. It was nice carrot and banana cake at the village hall too!

Scout19075 · 28/07/2010 10:33

My MiL will iron BabyScout's things if I do washing while we're there. He's - a - BABY! Clothes get more drool and food on them than wrinkles from a washing machine. Bless her for doing it, but I constantly tell her she doesn't need to.

How come my email inbox is full (FULL I TELL YOU!) of generated email from things I've signed up on. What is it about today/Wednesday/28 July that every single site has sent me something today?! Okay, slight exaggeration, but honestly, I've had close to 15 today. And it's only 10:30 in the morning!

MaryBS · 28/07/2010 10:45

Oy, what's wrong with builders called Dave!

AandO · 28/07/2010 10:48

Yay, on the FB thing!!

Found the info thing and now know who is who. Who is not here yet? Oxeye, UniS, Racing? I tried to click on people to see their photos but it won't let me, do we have to send friend requests? Do I put this here or in the tea room on MN?!!! Which is read more frequently? Maybe I'll copy and paste into MN! - Just did !

mistlethrush · 28/07/2010 10:49

I think that there are dual conversations going!

Scout19075 · 28/07/2010 10:51

I think, AandO, most of us have our pictures private unless you are friends (I know I do). You can send me a friend request through FB -- or I can send you one if you'd like!

AandO · 28/07/2010 10:53

Oh wait, I think I've seen UniS now.

AandO · 28/07/2010 10:55

Yep, my pics are set for only friends to see also, or at least I hope they are. Perhaps one of you could let me know what info you can see about me before I send off the freind requests? Just to check my security settings.

MT - I think this could be very very confusing!

MaryBS · 28/07/2010 11:07

I just want to say, my pic looks nothing like me!

mistlethrush · 28/07/2010 11:10

A&O - I can see your picture, your friends, where you live and your favourite film, and that's it. What about me - please can you do the same check?

thumbwitch · 28/07/2010 11:17

Mary - I recognised you instantly from yours! That alb was a dead giveaway

AandO · 28/07/2010 11:30

MT - thanks for that. I presume it is just my profile pic?

I clicked on you earlier and saw where you live, your friends list, your unis etc, your employers over time and yout job title. I also had clicked randomly on several of the others and saw way more of your info than I did for the others. HTH.

AandO · 28/07/2010 11:38

MT - if you go onto your FB info page, that is what can be seen without being your FB friend.

mistlethrush · 28/07/2010 12:00

Thanks A&O... might tighten up a bit...

amberlight · 28/07/2010 13:25

A lunch fit for the tropics is now available in the tea room.

Mellors has been persuaded to don a white waiter's outfit, suitably tight-fitting across his muscular torso, and the aspidistra has been wrestled back from the FB site and stuck back together with sellotape

AandO · 28/07/2010 13:37

Thanks Amber, could do with a good lunch...I have just eaten some lovely dairy milk that my mom left here yesterday ! In RL I'm going to follow up the chocolate with coffee....so very healthy .

Scout19075 · 28/07/2010 15:54

Thanks, AandO, your power of suggestion made me go raid my stash in the bottom of the fridge.

Can someone tell me what they can see of my FB page? I worry a bit about BabyScout and internet safety, but worry more about one or two boys from the past "finding" me. One in particular. I don't think he knows I'm married (I only have my married name on mine) or that I've moved over an ocean away, but you never know!

Got BabyScout's ECHO appointment slip today, as well as a note from my GP telling me about the appointment and that I need to take a urine sample with me. A URINE SAMPLE from a nine month old. YUCK.

Really should take advantage of BabyScout's nap, but I'm enjoying playing games on the computer and (on-line) chatting with my Mom.
