Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

1000 replies

amberlight · 23/07/2010 14:41

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

Aren't the waves delicious?

MaryBS · 24/07/2010 02:54

UniS, it was the single malt at the back of the drinks cabinet. Mellors didn't seem to object... but I think it was Amber's hidden stash

Am awake and fretting about our IRL pond. We have 3 huge filtration beds at the back, and the supports holding one up has partially given way. We're going on hols next week, and need to get it sorted before we go - otherwise we might come back to an empty pond and dead fish

amberlight · 24/07/2010 08:51

Is it morning?

Someone pass me the coffee...

Mary, I was about to suggest the bath, then I remembered the size of your fish. You'd need the municipal swimming pool! Hope it gets sorted.

MaryBS · 24/07/2010 10:04

Dont even think one of those garden inflatable swimming pools would do, the fish are very active and are leaping out of the water at the moment. Plus the water needs circulating/oxygenating. Hmm...

Scout19075 · 24/07/2010 10:37

How big are your fish?!?!

thumbwitch · 24/07/2010 10:52

Have you got Koi, Mary? Lovely!

Hello again Zazen - nice to see you back!

MaryBS · 24/07/2010 12:32

They're up to about 2ft long, smallest is about 14inches. There's a picture of some of them on my profile, but that was taken a few years ago. We have about 25 fish, mostly Koi, with 1 mirror carp and 1 fantail goldfish.

I've had a look at whats wrong, its bad, but I don't think its about to collapse imminently. It SHOULD last the holiday...

Scout19075 · 24/07/2010 19:07

Cocktails with umbrellas, anyone?

UniS · 24/07/2010 19:30

umbrella with a cocktail under it please.

A short fast screw one the grass in honour of scouts neighbours.

Lemon meringue ice cream was a success.

amberlight · 24/07/2010 19:42

Fill this with Long Slow Screw Against the Wall, will you?

Yay re lemon meringue ice cream!

Scout19075 · 24/07/2010 20:01

Amber, loving your golf umbrella!

Lemon meringue ice cream sounds interesting. Glad it was a success!

Watching some program on the monarchy. Asked HubbyScout if George V is/was Elizabeth's father and he said "Dunno." Surprised he didn't have to memorize his kings/queens the way we did presidents and states w/capitols. Is George V Elizabeth's dad?

Scout19075 · 24/07/2010 20:07

Never mind, found out who Elizabeth's father is.

UniS · 24/07/2010 20:18

I think I've found the trick with teh meringues. coated in white chocolate they don;t melt away to nothing as ice cream is freezing.

My, Amber, That is VERY large umbrella, would you like a life jacket to help you keep your head above liquid level.

Scout19075 · 24/07/2010 20:22

Oh, Mary, very nice fish! When/where is holiday?

Mmm, white chocolate!

Amber, let me know if you need a top up.

Beach music to play to

amberlight · 24/07/2010 20:32

Nope, I'm just fine with this amount, thanks...on the other hand, maybe an extra gallon...?

Anyone for a twiglet?

OP posts:
UniS · 24/07/2010 20:49

chuck us a twiglet then , and another please.

Ta.

I've burning in our new woodburner tonight. so have a toasty warm left side and a chilly right side, as have all the windows open to shift the paint smell.

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 24/07/2010 21:07

Scout, I like your West Coast style

Any Bolly left?

CMOTdibbler · 24/07/2010 21:48

UniS, you are obv queen of icecream. My mum used to make a wicked Archers and dried peach icecream.

Talking of the parents, you will be amazed to hear that my dad applied for (and has been granted) a blue badge. I am hopeful that I may make progress on the mobility scooter too, as he is accepting that he is limited in mobility now.

We are going to mega outdoor event tomorrow. DS wishes to go on the 4x4 course, quad biking, and archery. And watch the polocrosse. He is getting ideas

UniS · 24/07/2010 23:02

made me smile, maybe it will make you smile too. Are any of us from Newport? I suspect a few of us live in towns not dissimilarly unlovely.

I like teh idea of being an ice cream queen. Our puddings tonight included 4 flavours of ice cream between teh 3 of us. DH had Lem M , boy asked for raspberry fudge mallow but had to settle for Pavolova and an extra meringue, I had Juicy Raspberry and a dollop of coconut on teh side.

MaryBS · 25/07/2010 01:07

Scout, we go to Woolacombe on Friday, for 2 weeks

Went to Pizza Hut yesterday for tea, after a nightmare shopping trip, where DS played us up. He continued to play up at Pizza Hut, when he threw up, shortly after sitting at table - turned out he'd been eating the salt (never done that before) . Settled down once he got his food though, but had a tantrum when he found out he wasn't getting ice cream... argh...

thumbwitch · 25/07/2010 01:53

CMOTD - yay for your Dad getting his blue badge (and for recognising that it was a Good Idea to get one!) Sounds like Tiddler is getting very adventurous!

UniS - tell me you have an icecream maker, please! Am v. impressed with your skills and think you should indeed be Ice Cream Queen of the Tea Room.

Scout - you say you've got QEII's father sorted now? so you know that George V = her grandfather and George VI = her father (and Edward VIII = her uncle).

Mary - am that DS was eating salt - what a bizarre thing to do! . Hope the pond and fish survive your holiday.

Amber - here's a double golfing umbrella - with more cocktail - look you could probably swim.. oh, you are.

amberlight · 25/07/2010 08:03

triple strength coffee, anyone?

Member of that charity with which I have been Having Some Trouble wrote to say that things like
...me going on a pilgrimage (where they ruddy agreed it in the first place) and...

...my job with them ....

failed because they weren't "in my gift".

Well, if you starve someone of money, resources, team, info, safety, help, support, advice...and tell them they're not allowed to speak to autistic people on account of it taking too long, amazingly they can't do the job. Telling them it's their fault for it being a failure of their skills is a whole new form of horror.

I think I may need more coffee. Or counselling.

OP posts:
MaryBS · 25/07/2010 08:19

Amber, tell them it IS in your gift to tell them they are talking complete and utter bullshit, and the reason it didn't happen is THEIR inability to take seriously what Jesus said about taking care of the 1 sheep, choosing instead to absolve themselves of all responsibility and to put the blame on you and/or God.

MaryBS · 25/07/2010 08:19

Forgot to add a . I've a good mind to contact them myself and tell them what I think!
