Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

1000 replies

amberlight · 23/07/2010 14:41

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

When do they want to admit DH ?

JBsmama · 13/09/2010 20:10

Oh dear Amber, you're having a day. Or several.

Scout19075 · 13/09/2010 20:16
CMOTdibbler · 13/09/2010 20:51

Scout, do you have a recipe for those

Scout19075 · 13/09/2010 21:14

CMOT -- Can scan and send you the recipe page if interested. Is in a recipe book my SiL gave me as part of my birthday present last month. I haven't tried them but she said they're yummy (made them last night).

Scout19075 · 13/09/2010 22:05

Calling any Guiders and/or Brown Owls or anyone with fond memories of being a girl -- I need 30 words that you think of when you think of Guiding/Guiding Centenary/Camping. I'm thinking words like "camping", "tent", "leadership", "Brown Owl", etc. Any ideas?

UniS · 13/09/2010 22:08

Recipe- yes please.... recipes count as something to read in a parcel don't they??

I'm wondering about doing an apple cake with toffee drizzled on the top. or maybe I should work out how to make a toffee flavour icing/ frosting.

Evening all.

So- I need to dress DH as Cinderella in rags, for very little money in 2 weeks time... ideas needed. Oh, and I'm to be Prince Charming.... idea for making something that looks like thigh high boots that I can wear over trainers?

UniS · 13/09/2010 22:12

Scout

Singing, marshmallows, Camp blanket, logs,
fire, Sod cloth, Guy rope, inspection, patrol, Games, making, cooking, knots, gadgets.

any help?
I've started Boys camp blanket. decided to go for a fleece blanket as we have a spare one knocking about. It has 5 patches on so far, I need some green thread to put a 6th on with.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 13/09/2010 22:20

Oooh, is the parcel swap still on?

Cinderella shouldn't be too hard - charity shop dress, maybe beige or brown and rather too large, torn at the bottom and held in with a large belt? Plimsols on his feet, maybe distressed and sprayed brown/shabby gold? Ragged apron made out of a)a piece of old white sheet or b) an old sack? Head scarf made from more white sheet and/or blond wig (cheap on internet)

Will now retire to bed and leave someone else to ponder tigh-high boots, but was thinking of something attached to charity shop boots. Or second-hand waders sprayed black?

Have had a stupendous and remarkable day, but will not discuss in case little signs of progress get frightened off.

Night night.

Scout19075 · 13/09/2010 22:20

Thanks UniS! I'm now up to about 20-something words (I had a couple of the ones you mentioned).

I'm running two games tomorrow night -- one where you put a word on everyone's back and they have to go around and ask 20 questions to figure out their word. We're doing a Guiding theme. The other is a Guiding themed Kim's Game so I need to get out my Girl Scout/Guide stuff to use.

I love camp blankets!

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 14/09/2010 09:36

Scout - Could you have Go For It, or must it be a single word? Adventure (although that's more of a Brownie word)? Smore?

UniS - Could you make some thigh-high boots by attaching something to leggings (although I can't think what the something would have to be, as fabric would be too flimsy and cardboard too inflexible)?

Serpent - Hooray!

The breakfast buffet of requirement is now open - I've lowered some goodies, wrapped in a red spotted hankie, to Amber.

Scout19075 · 14/09/2010 10:06

I have Go For It and S'more. Adventure is good (not necessarily a Brownie word).

Here's what I have:
Baden-Powell
Thinking Day
Tents
Fires
Arts & Crafts
Promise Badge
Centenary
S?mores
Tent Pegs
First Aid
Leader
Brown Owl
Singing
Camp Blanket
Logs
Sod Cloth
Patrol
Games
Badges
Go For It!
Outdoor Cooking
Gadgets
Camping
Nights Away
Uniforms
BP Award
Challenge Badge
Centenary

Swimming today -- YAY!

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 14/09/2010 10:17

Oh, I know Brownies don't have the monopoly on Adventure, but just wondered whether we use it more than Guides do, because it's plastered over the front of our books.

How about Active? Friendship? Worldwide? Sisterhood? Our Chalet?

Scout19075 · 14/09/2010 13:54

I think it depends on the context, Small. We've had a lot of "Adventure" this year as we've worked on our Adventure 100 so it seems to be everywhere at the moment!

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 14/09/2010 14:25

Yes, that's very true!

Scout19075 · 14/09/2010 14:48

I stopped counting my points at 205 and I was only part way through the thing. BabyScout earned his, too. Grin

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 14/09/2010 16:27

I am in awe. We've just about reached 100 and I guess we ought to be finished by October. Confused

Scout19075 · 14/09/2010 16:47

That's not all of the girls, just me. LOL We're pushing to get our girls finished by end of term. ACK!

Am now in the priest's hole till I calm down. Cakes welcome, as are voodoo dolls in the shape of vicars

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 14/09/2010 20:25

Here's a selection of the toffee-encrusted goodies we've enjoyed recently. They also contain apples and bananas, so will count as at least 2 of your five a day.

And here's a packet of extra long dressmaking pins.

JBsmama · 14/09/2010 20:28

Hi all, just a brief hello. My parents are arriving today and will be with us for two weeks so I will either have more time to get into the Tea Room, or less. We will see.
If there are any pats on the back going around, I could use a couple, I had one more consult yesterday to finally restore my poor ragged bits to something approaching normalcy. (Don't worry, anyone, that's all I'm going to say about it, no more over-sharing for JM :)). It means one more surgical procedure, scheduled for Nov 8. Some time between now and then my right knee is going to need some work, so I'll be hopping along for a few days after that. Neither op is major, especially not the knee, and hopefully after that I'll be, if not good as new, then as better as I can be.

Drinks, anyone?

Ooops, sorry Mary. I've always thought you were a curate.
