Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

1000 replies

amberlight · 23/07/2010 14:41

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

Awww Amber, that sounds awful!

JBsmama · 10/09/2010 14:56

Healing eyes?? Healing VIBES!!

I suppose healing eyes would be good too, just not for DH...

Ok, this time I'm really off for the weekend, might be able to say hello if I find Wi-Fi.

amberlight · 10/09/2010 17:25

Ooo, healing eyes! Thanks! And a matching pair, too, which is more than ds has now. The lotion has turned one of his temporarily a different colour so he's got one green and one blue. Very odd...
Luckily, both men in my life are improving fast, it seems.

Must be those healing eyes I sent Grin

UniS · 10/09/2010 22:44

Hurrah for healing men.

I've just returned from listening to WV Awdreys daughter Veronica talking about the Railway series of books and how they came to be written. Jolly interesting. Tho I and the father of one of boys friends were the youngest in the room by a good 20-25 years.

Warming ginger drink for any one? and how about a tea room bun. I reallly fancy a nibble of something, but I am being restrained in RL. Am feeling VERY unfit and fat, really must try and lose a bit of bulk somehow.

thumbwitch · 11/09/2010 19:38

hello all!

large cuppa hot chocolate over here, please

Amber - glad the Fine Lad's op is over and I hope his eye stops hurting soon

UniS - I wish I could have gone to that talk, it sounds brilliant! My Dad would have liked it too.

Goodness, it is now 4:30am and I forgot to press post on this when I'd finished it Blush Just sitting here with miniThumb eating toast and drinking hot chocolate, watching Madagascar 2. Still, it could be worse - it could be 3am. Grin

Scout19075 · 11/09/2010 20:48

Stupid internet just ate my long-ish post.

AandO · 12/09/2010 01:15

Hey guys, well, its the middle of the night nearly so I'm going to go now!! Grin. Take care

Scout19075 · 12/09/2010 07:20

Rough night -- does anyone have any matchsticks I can borrow for the day?

amberlight · 12/09/2010 07:57

Fine lad's eye is improving very fast (hooray). DH is improving fast as well, which is a huge relief but tests tomorrow.

Thanks for the sticks, amber!

Glad to hear your boys are mending quickly!

BabyScout has a stinking rotten cold streaming eyes, constant nose, coughing up everything that's going down his throat. Blurgh. During the day he's happy and cheery but last night, in the middle of the night, he was CrankyBabyScout. His second tooth cut the other day as well, so now he has two little bottom teeth and is constantly drooling. At one point yesterday he had stuff coming out of every facial cavity double blurgh!

You can't see the teeth when he smiles, but they're sharp and I heard them grating on his spoon during dinner last night. I fear I'm quickly going to lose my BabyScout's big gummy smiles and that makes me Sad -- I love his big gummy smiles! Good thing I have oodles of pictures!

teafortwo · 12/09/2010 22:02

Hurray for Amberboy's eyes getting better... he had us all worried there!

Baa yuuuk to Scoutboy's nasty cold...

Scout - I often have that feeling. My neice has just started crawling and I nearly cried because it made me think of Milk when she used to crawl and I had these huge pangs of missing my little crawly Milk... Sad

Also I became a second cousin once removed for the seventh time yesterday - Aaaaawww... which made me miss new born Milk too!!! Sad

oxeye · 12/09/2010 23:55

'Lo all!

Remember me Grin
Just back from wonderful hols, I haven't a chance of catching up so hope all good - can see Scoutbaby not great, or Fine Lad, but hope all else well and groovy

I now have a Sprouting OxBoy - honestly he is a foot taller than when last seen on these pages!

thumbwitch · 13/09/2010 01:47

Ello Oxeye - we were just wondering what had become of you! Glad to see you back, despite rapidly growing Oxboy (whatever are you feeding him on?)

Am not sure I miss miniThumb's teeny stages, but mostly because each new stage was just as scrummy (PFB alert) - until now of course, when the Terrible Twos seem to be making themselves felt! The whining is terrible indeed - and his new constant refrains are "I caaaaaan't!" and "Nooooo!"

Scout19075 · 13/09/2010 05:31

Know several people who are pregnant, some with their first child after years of ttc, and while I don't begrudge them their child/pregnancy recently I've become very Sad at the thought that I'll never have the firsts back. And I'll never be pregnant again (surprisingly I really enjoyed it, despite the roughness of my pregnancy due to health complications). I know it's all a bit self-impossed as I could try again in 18 months, but I said "no more" and I'm just sad about it. Feeling guilty, too.

Think I'll blame the meds -- I seem to be able to blame them for a lot of things these days.

thumb -- Did miniThumb immediately ask for Grandpa upon departure? How was/is long-haul flying with a toddler? Have suddenly realized BabyScout will be 13 months when we go back for Thanksgiving.

Hello Oxeye! How were the holidays.

amber, how are FineLad and FineHubby today?

MaryBS · 13/09/2010 07:53

. Still catching up with everything, think I need more caffeine - anyone for tea/coffee?

amberlight · 13/09/2010 08:31

DS and DH on the mend. DH having more tests today though, as now he can't eat anything with fat content, so it's probably better but not fixed. DS back in school, promising to be sensible Hmm and not play sport Hmm and put his own eye drops in at the right time ShockBiscuit. Some texting of reminders may take place I think. I know he's nearly an adult but his 'common' sense is very rare.

Hi Oxeye!! How was the holiday? More description required.

Morning all! Cooked breakfast awaits those in need.

I'm so glad to see you again. Comment ca va?

In SmallVillas, we're so far past the baby/toddler stage that I can feel 'oh how gorgeous' when I look at (for example) the scrumptious BabyScout without any feeling of 'I wish it were me'. I used to feel a pang when friends got pregnant while we were, ahem, trying but (oddly, perhaps) once I had had SmallGirl that feeling went away never to return. And I have always enjoyed the new things that come with each stage of development. I loved it when SmallGirl could talk well enough to have a proper conversation (although now that she is cheeky, answers back and is determined to argue every point to the nth degree in the manner of a baby barrister Confused it is becoming rather wearing).

Perhaps we should send Mellors to the FineSchool to tap the FineLad on the shoulder when it's time for his eye drops? With his general hunkiness athletic build, Mellors should fit in quite well with the rugby players.

Mary - Tell all about the child-free weekend. Envy

Tea, hot chocolate, Danish pastries and hot toast on the aga, for all who want them.

thumbwitch · 13/09/2010 11:57

Mary, Amber - have need of your help - discussion on the Other Forum if you could make your way there in orderly fashion please. :) (Or disorderly, whichever is your preference Grin)

mistlethrush · 13/09/2010 12:49

I am also very Envy at the childfree weekend.... Dh was away all week.... This weekend he returned on Friday at 6pm, and left at 6.15 having grabbed something to eat. Back at 10.30pm. Sat he left at 8.40 and got back in time to put mistlechick to bed at 6.30 (good thing too!). Sunday he left at 9.30, promising to be back for bedtime again, but didn't return until 8pm - which made me late for my rehearsal. So mistlechick didn't get to see him for any length of time and certainly no quality time, and didn't even get a goodbye kiss last night Angry

Saw some 3.5wk old twins on Sunday.... Is it me or do otherpeople's children never look as beautiful as your own - or was I blessed with a particularly good looking baby Blush (who I think is goign to be following in the footsteps of fine lad and be likely to have a fan club of admirers... he's undoubtedly going to be tall, has slightly wayward hair which goes a bit blonde in the summer and a wonderful mischievous smile)

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 13/09/2010 13:06

Mistle - Oh dear about lack of paternal quality time for MistleChick.

I think it is the first law of genetics that we are programmed to think our offspring are better-looking than anyone else's which in my case is obviously true. It's all very Darwinwian/Dawkinsesque. But, then, SmallGirl did have the advantage of having been born by CS so didn't have that purple, scrunched-up look which comes from having been squeezed out. On the other hand, most boys find her scary so maybe she won't have a retinue of ardent young swains? Confused

Has MC been baking any of his lewd rolls recently? It's lunchtime and I'm feeling peckish.

CMOTdibbler · 13/09/2010 13:23

DS looked mostly like a scrawny skinned rabbit when first born tbh. But I am not really a baby person anyway.

After his first full week at school DS has the following comments - it's unfair that they didn't get to use chainsaws at forest school, he liked ballet, the food is great (he is like the tiger who came to tea atm), and he loves the playground. Actually he moaned when dh picked him up earlier from late club on thurs so that he could come and choose my new cast colour as he was having lots of fun.

Cross fingers for me - I have someone coming to look at the car tomorrow to see if they want to buy it, then I can get the nice small automatic I've got my eye on

MaryBS · 13/09/2010 15:55

I was actually at a weekend for ministers like me! It turned out to be a lot of fun, as well as learning lots, and like I say, it was child free! What I've taken to doing is asking at birthday or Christmas for a weekend off, paid for by DH, which could be at a retreat centre (for someone as crazy as like me) or even a girlie weekend away!
