My child was served sausages

Not sure how to deal with this one, so my little one started nursery and gets given lunch there, we are Muslim and they know he’s not allowed pork, they usually give him veggie sausages because and they let me know on the app, but today I read that he had normal sausages and I’m assuming it’s pork? I know you can get beef but I’m not sure if they use beef? I’ll have a talk with them tomorrow but if it was pork I just don’t know how I’ll ever trust them again! This is usually a very good nursery and it’ll be silly of them to make a mistake like this knowing he doesn’t eat it for religious reasons.
Has anybody else dealt with something like this??

OP posts:

No @Garfunkle but if you have genuine questions on halal meat, what it is, What Muslim are permitted to eat, What constitutes halal and what doesn’t (it’s more than the slaughter), the sunnah (prophetic tradition) around eating meat, exceptions to mandate of halal meat etc, maybe it would be better to start another thread than to chance your posts getting deleted and /or lost in another thread? Or worse being mistaken for a racist islamaphobe who is looking for an excuse to Muslim bash, no

I have no questions on Halal meat. I have witnessed the culling of halal meat and have replied to questions. I have not bashed Muslims. Your point is?

Odd then that your ‘factual’ statements were deleted then, guess they must have been deemed to be offensive? 🤔🤔

@FranceTeam

Just to clarify, I do respect religious choices of eating, whether that be Jews or Muslims no eating pork. What I am saying, in this case, a child given pork accidentally is no big deal. It is like a child being given meat on Ash Wednesday in a catholic school, it doesn’t really matter and I am sure it was an accident, doesn’t count in religions the same as deliberately ignoring the rules.
It does matter (or would, if it had actually happened) The nursery should be following the dietary requirements. It's not really about a faith based diet or religion as much as adhering to the children dietary needs. In this case no harm would have occurred. In others, it may have.
Catlover77 · 09/11/2021 22:55

My factual points were deleted. Animal cruelty is abhorrent and we should be permitted to say that it is.

DameMaureen · 09/11/2021 22:56

People are lucky that they are having a choice about what they eat - not all are.

Hope you’re as vocal about the animal cruelty involved in the general meat and dairy industry and only eat local grass fed meat and abstain from all dairy 👍🏻
Yogawankonobi · 09/11/2021 23:01

People on this thread are awful! Why are you questioning the op?

Glad you got to the bottom of it @Flowerpowerr1 hopefully they will be more careful with record keeping in the future.

cansu · 09/11/2021 23:01

Ask them first because it may well be beef or veggie.

Then think about how you are going to handle it. It will have been accidental. People make mistakes, not because they are terrible people or because they don't care.

Personally, if he did get pork, I would speak to them and ask them how they are going to make sure it doesn't happen again. Enter into a dialogue. I would not move my child on this one issue if they were otherwise happy and settled.

Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things?
This exactly.
JurgensCakeBaby · 09/11/2021 23:02

This evening at pick up a nursery worker said to one of the dads she had veggie pasta with cheese on top, about his daughter. This little girl has a very severe dairy allergy, he immediately asked and the nursery worker said she had her dairy free cheese, we keep all of the things we get in for her labelled and in a particular section of the fridge, don't worry we know how poorly it would make her, if you ever see that on her journal, milk or cheese etc it's her stuff not dairy. So I'm sure it will just be something like that

Catlover77 · 09/11/2021 23:03

Sleep, that is correct, I do not eat animals. But the practice of halal meat is far worse and that is why I commented

JurgensCakeBaby · 09/11/2021 23:03

Just saw your update, good news

hibye123 · 09/11/2021 23:06

Why do people want Muslims to eat pork so badly?! Pigs are such dirty animals due to their environment and the food that they're fed hence why it's forbidden to eat in Islam. Jews and Rastas also don't eat pork.

If you want to eat pork then go ahead, no one's stopping you but there's really no need to be Islamophobic about itConfused

underneaththeash · 09/11/2021 23:06

@underneaththeash

I'd be annoyed too OP. We were massively clear that we only eat normal non-processed food and high welfare meat, so no Halal/Kosher/ vegan/veggie/low-fat(sugary) substitutes. Normal food. And we chose nurseries that only offered "home-cooked food" DD especially kept being given bloody quorn. But yes, they may have been beef, I could get beef sausages (with beef casings) for my jewish neighbours children when we had parties in London.
My point was it, is a preference - not a medical need.. Mine maybe more so as it's a health choice.
Faffandahalf · 09/11/2021 23:06

Goodness. It’s been at least hmmm 2 months since the last Islamaphobic see you next tuesdays came out on MN.

Thanks for walking into a post about nursery not following diestary requirements (which could be fatal if this was an allergy so pretty important to follow them all) and making it about halal meat.

I mean what the fuck has that got to do with the OP. Fuck all. You’ve just come on here to post your shit because you don’t like the Muslims and their halal ways. You care about animal welfare. Sure ok. Campaign for change then.

What exactly is the point of posting on this thread which is not about halal slaughter!!??

Prepare for your comment to be deleted. It seems if you mention “Halal” you are islamophobic 🙄

Or maybe it’s because you tried to derail a thread with a mum asking for advice with goady opinions about halal slaughter that nobody asked for,
don’t have anything to do with the OP, bash the OP’s food choices etc etc.

@Catlover77 I’m glad you abstain from all other meat products or you might appear like a racist looking for any excuse to Muslim bash.

As a Muslim I often find people often get up in arms about either meat or women’s rights exclusively in relation to Muslims but don’t really care in the wider sense… it’s odd

Faffandahalf · 09/11/2021 23:12

Isn’t it just Hmm

Coffeepants · 09/11/2021 23:13

Coffeepants · 09/11/2021 23:15

This is literally it!! If you care so much about halal meat and the way the process is done why not join forces with PETA or something?! Start your own thread about the way meat is cut. The OP only came to express worry that her child may have eaten something that isn't allowed in their religion. No need for some of the bitchy comments that doesn't even help the OP at all. So bizzare but some people clearly can't help themselves
Coffeepants · 09/11/2021 23:16

Lucky? Where they’re paying for child care in a so called first wild country? Should we all be fed scraps and be grateful?
