Would you go to a gig at 60?

Well 59 actually. There’s a band I really like who have quite a youngish audience I think but I really like them and want to see them live.

Would me and DH be a pair of saddos and stick out like a sore thumb? Or is our age irrelevant. I won’t be down the mosh pit I hasten to add!

Oh for gods sake! You're 59 not dead!

Tomorrowisyesterday · 05/10/2024 19:13

Who cares if you stand out? Do the things you enjoy

toopytoo · 05/10/2024 19:14

What? God I hope I don't think like this at 60! Wouldn't even occur to my parents to question their age for something like this.

WingBingo · 05/10/2024 19:14

Definitely go. I’m nearing 50 (eminently) and still go to gigs all the time.

RaiseYourSkinnyFists · 05/10/2024 19:14

I fully intend to continue going to gigs at 60!

There's usually a broad range of ages at gigs so don't worry! Music is for everyone.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 05/10/2024 19:15

Of course.
I'm 66 and went to see Westlife with my daughter.
I went to see the Artic monkeys with my Grandson.
I went to see Rod Stewart on my own.
I'm planning more with my Grandson .. we have the same tastes. He loves The Cure.. The Smiths etc all alternative l love still.

GatherlyGal · 05/10/2024 19:15

What? Of course you should go.

Restaurantcritic · 05/10/2024 19:15

Yeah I realise I’m not dead! I just haven’t seen a band live for a good few years.

If it’s a band you both like is it one that’s from your era? I’ve just booked to see They might be giants and am fully expecting everyone else to be 60 ish!
I love going to gigs and nobody cares.

WorriedRelative · 05/10/2024 19:15

Oh gosh go! I know loads of people your age and older that go to gigs, not just old stuff, new upcoming music of various genre.

redtrain123 · 05/10/2024 19:15

Yes. No one will care, and there will be other ‘oldies’ as well.

tweeters · 05/10/2024 19:16

Loads of middle age people go to gigs. Often the majority of audience, depending on the band.

ShipshapeShore · 05/10/2024 19:16

Every gig I've ever been to has had a wide range of people there. No one will bat an eyelid at you being 60! Please go - and have a wonderful time! (Who is the band?!)

ExitPursuedByABare · 05/10/2024 19:16

I’m 65 and saw the Kilkers in June.

I’m hoping to get Springsteen tickets for next year.

Yoyooo · 05/10/2024 19:17

Unless it's The Wiggles then you're mad! Enjoy it.

Wishboneswishes · 05/10/2024 19:18

What?! Go for it OP 💪

AnnieMcFanny · 05/10/2024 19:18

I’m 66 and love going to gigs. Sometimes alone and sometimes with any of my older grandchildren who fancy it.

live your life to the full. We’re a long time dead.

mitogoshigg · 05/10/2024 19:18

Er, what? Have you been to many gigs? Obviously audiences vary but at some you would be positively young!

We go to gigs most weekends and sometimes we are older, sometimes I'm the youngest bar the band, and I don't care either way. I've been to "young following" bands with my adult dd and I've never felt out of place

Floralnomad · 05/10/2024 19:20

My sisters and I are between 58-62 and we’ve not stopped going to gigs yet , I’m going to 2 this week .

NightHouse · 05/10/2024 19:20

I'm 54 and saw Yungblud last year. He was fabulous. I was alone and didn't feel daft at all. Just enjoyed the music. Go!

BeautyPageantDropout · 05/10/2024 19:21

Yuck, it would be so embarrassing. Act your age and go see Andre Rieu instead.

Obviously go to the gig, woman!

neonjumper · 05/10/2024 19:22

It's the best time to go ... no childcare to arrange anymore ... more disposable income to spend on gigs ... no desperate urge to stand at the front anymore !

Bewildermum · 05/10/2024 19:23

My husband and I are both in our 50s (he's 59) and we're also both IN bands, as well as regular gig-goers. Enjoy your gig!

InspectorGidget · 05/10/2024 19:23

I bloody hope so! I live for my gigs and festivals!

MyOwnToes · 05/10/2024 19:23

I go to lots of gigs and there is always a range of ages, even at the ones you would t expect. Don’t think twice.
