Would you go to a gig at 60?

Well 59 actually. There’s a band I really like who have quite a youngish audience I think but I really like them and want to see them live.

Would me and DH be a pair of saddos and stick out like a sore thumb? Or is our age irrelevant. I won’t be down the mosh pit I hasten to add!

I'm 64, saw Keane do an acoustic set on Friday night in the smallest room I've ever seen a band. Can honestly say they blew me away. Never heard anyone sound that good live ever and ive seen Freddie! Such nice guys too. You're never too old!

That must've been magical. Very envious.

I fully intend to continue going to gigs at 60!

There's usually a broad range of ages at gigs so don't worry! Music is for everyone.

Further to this old comment, I actually met someone at a gig I went to alone about five days after typing that.

It was a lovely road trip for me because I had to drive to Leeds which is about two hours from me. I went early so I could get to the front and got chatting to this guy. I ended up getting a snog at the gig 😁 You're never too old for a snog at a gig either!

We've been dating ever since and it's going really well. Lucky me :)

Definitely not, your Zimmer frame might trip up one of the young and trendy people who have the actual right to be there.
Make sure you don't go out from now on in case you frighten someone, actually.

For the past few years my husband and I have gone to the Butlins 70's weekend which is firstly brilliant but full of people between the ages of mid 50's upwards. Each night goes on until about 2am and all of the dance floors are by packed with people our age all dancing and singing.

@3catsandcounting It was in a tiny former converted blacksmith's forge in Denmark Street, Soho, where they'd played a gig in 2002, which landed them their record deal. As part of their Hopes and Fears 20 celebration/book launch. Won tix online. They played 6 songs then a meet and greet for the book signing. Was very intimate as only 20 winners with a plus 1 each - though they let a load of die hard fans in at the last minute, who pushed us out of the way to get to the front - I had no idea their fans were like that. Was still an amazing experience in such an intimate setting and awesome to talk to each of the band afterwards!

I recently saw Midge Ure at the London Palladium. Most people were 60 plus. All happy to go out to a gig.

FFS, we go with our best friends who are in their late 60s to at least five gigs/festivals a year. Why are people so obsessed with age in the UK?

Was that in Kingston?

No, in Denmark Street, Soho. You went through this really dinky cocktail bar and it was in a little room at the back called The Forge. The band did their meet and greet in a tiny space between the bar and that room, opposite where the only 2 loos in the place were!! They had a pop up book shop in the shop next door.

There are so many hidden venues where artists just do their thing, often practicing for their big show. It's great when you get tickets and the intimate venues are the best IMO.

I'm 60 and have just been to see Stormzy...have other gigs planned for next year. If my husband doesn't want to go to something, I take my kids instead...or they take me.
Go to your gigs and enjoy.

I'm in my 70s, and and still going to gigs; hip-hop, the last couple of times, If you love music, you'll keep going, it doesn't matter how old you are.

DefinitelyNotMaybe · 01/01/2025 02:29

My dad is 80 and we still go to gigs together. You need more fun in your life, clearly!
