Would you go to a gig at 60?

Well 59 actually. There’s a band I really like who have quite a youngish audience I think but I really like them and want to see them live.

Would me and DH be a pair of saddos and stick out like a sore thumb? Or is our age irrelevant. I won’t be down the mosh pit I hasten to add!

I'm 69 and going to a concert.

At that wonderful age where I couldn't give a fuck. 😁

BigBoysDontCry · 05/10/2024 19:55

Im not much of a gig goer but my brother and sil are almost 70 and they still go to loads of gigs. Sil calls herself the oldest rocker in town 😂

Get yourself tickets OP and enjoy!

CountTo10 · 05/10/2024 19:55

Offs! I'm 59 and go to gigs all the time! Wouldn't enter my head not to! Sometimes I I even go with my 24 year son (at his invite if it's a band we both like).

Jk987 · 05/10/2024 19:56

Go out til 3am, travel, get drunk if you want to, wear the latest trends and makeup.

What do you think you should be doing at 59? Knitting yourself a twin set?

Waterboatlass · 05/10/2024 20:00

Please tell me you've booked your ticket after reading these!! If not, yes, go!! I know loads of people who see bands in their 60s and up. My parents go regularly in their mid 70s.

RaraRachael · 05/10/2024 20:02

I went to see George Ezra on my own at 60. There were all ages from small children to an old couple who looked about 80.

Everybody had a great time.

Waterboatlass · 05/10/2024 20:02

To add I'm 30s and it's lovely having a mix of ages at gigs

suburberphobe · 05/10/2024 20:06

Act your age and go see Andre Rieu instead.

It's actually beautiful music.

Ageist thread.

suburberphobe · 05/10/2024 20:08

I saw BB King when he was around 80.

Blessed.

CMOTDibbler · 05/10/2024 20:08

We're over 50 and still well in the mosh pit for gigs and festivals. We've got 3 gigs together in November, plus another for DH.
@Holiday24 good on your mum for going to Rammstein, one of the most spectacular shows I have ever seen, even if I'm not a massive fan of theirs

Growlybear83 · 05/10/2024 20:24

Good grief! I'm 66 and I still go to occasional heavy metal gigs. Whyever would I stop just because I'm getting older?

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 05/10/2024 20:26

Of course !

Restaurantcritic · 05/10/2024 20:31

I feel daft now even worrying about it! I took my neice and her mates to Taylor Swift recently and there was a huge cross section of ages. Band I want to see is Fontaines DC. (I’m an ex punk and love raucous music!)

I saw him 8 times in 13 months, big fan.
I go to around 20 gigs a year on my own and love it.

Lampzade · 05/10/2024 20:34

Dh and I always go to gigs together. I don’t even think about the age of others
If I like a band I will go

Changeyourfuckingcar · 05/10/2024 20:34

My fantastic mother is 60 and she still goes to gigs, big and small, at least once a month, and can keep up with the best of them. Go for it op, have fun and do what you want to do!

solooddbod · 05/10/2024 20:35

At 50 you should no longer give a shit what anyone thinks .

coffeeneeded · 05/10/2024 20:47

My dads coming to a gig with me and my brother in November. Dad is 77

You set your limits. Not society

kitsuneghost · 05/10/2024 20:48

Yes. Of course
I am 49 and go to a lot. Many of my friends are in their 50s.
We are not the oldest.
There is a band we see often. The lead singer is 80.

Definitely go, they're amazing. The new album is fantastic.

StopStartStop · 05/10/2024 21:06

No, I don't think you should go. You'll be showing yourselves up and upsetting everyone else by being there.

NOT!

I'm 66. I go to gigs. No-one gives a damn. Most of them are there to enjoy the music and the rest just want a night out. Go, and enjoy yourselves!

ArticSaviour · 05/10/2024 21:07

Fuck it - go for it. I think there will be a very mixed crowd for Fontaines DC.

I was at a gig last night. My ears are still ringing but I bloody loved it

ArticSaviour · 05/10/2024 21:07

Should have said I am 52

AppropriateAdult · 05/10/2024 21:13

Ha! I've just bought my father a ticket to a gig for his upcoming 76th birthday. The artist is only a few years younger than that, but he's still rocking.
