Would you go to a gig at 60?

Well 59 actually. There’s a band I really like who have quite a youngish audience I think but I really like them and want to see them live.

Would me and DH be a pair of saddos and stick out like a sore thumb? Or is our age irrelevant. I won’t be down the mosh pit I hasten to add!

I will go to everything until I am dead.

Echobelly · 05/10/2024 21:19

Absolutely - I have friends in their 60s who regularly go to gigs and festivals, including ones with a young audience.

I think mixed age crowds are much more of thing than they used to be because we're not in the days anymore where you are supposed to 'give up' gigs or clubs or festivals because you are supposed to have 'grown out' of them. I think that's come from people marrying later, having spent half their life going out and not wanting to give it up because they have kids and people being less judgemental about it.

I'm nearly 47 and my husband is 51 next week and we're about to go out clubbing this evening. Admittedly easier since the kids are old enough to be home alone.

Enjoy the gig.

I'm older than you and I'm going to see Alice Cooper in a fortnight, for the second time. I'd have gone to see Deep Purple for the third time in November but it clashes with a conference I booked months ago..

hepsitemiz · 05/10/2024 21:20

Great band!!! They’re coming to Paris but the venue they’ve chosen is not my husband’s favourite,so we’ll be giving it a miss.

When I attend the gigs of my rock idols, the ones who were playing already in the mid 70s and are playing still, you see all ages - from my children’s ages (early twenties) to much older than me.

Enjoy!!

runwithme · 05/10/2024 21:20

We took our 81 year old uncle to the Foo Fighters! Don't let age be a barrier

Yirk · 05/10/2024 21:22

70 here still gigging and festivals, enjoy what you like, life is to short !!

zaxxon · 05/10/2024 21:24

No. I'm 50 and I wouldn't go any more. It's just not fun like it used to be.

Oneblindmouse · 05/10/2024 21:28

I went to my first music festival aged 59. I am 64 now and go to gigs all the time. I was at one last night with my DD. Sometimes I go to them alone, sometimes with DD. At least two a month.

Neveragain35 · 05/10/2024 21:32

Absolutely! We went to a festival over the summer and came to the conclusion that the 3 main groups were definitely: 1. Groups of teenagers off their face 2. Parents dragging young kids around in trolleys looking like they might be regretting it and 3. People in their 50s/60s/70s having a whale of a time! We felt a bit in the minority as a childless couple in our 40s.

One of the best things I saw was a couple well into their 60s at least right at the front of the main stage. Just before the band were due to start a group of girls started doing the “excuse me, can I just get through, I’m looking for my friend” trick to push their way past people and the woman told them in no uncertain terms where to go! 🤣

Would it be terrible for me to confess that I've fancied Alice Cooper something rotten since I was 14, and I still lust after him at 66. 😆😆

Freeme31 · 05/10/2024 21:33

Absolutely go im 60 and go to to see lots of bands 🎶

Timetoread · 05/10/2024 21:34

I hope so! Just go for it, enjoy!

Wisenotboring · 05/10/2024 21:45

Oh my goodness. Absolutely yes!
Go, enjoy the music and make sure you get another one booked in. Don't removed yourself from any activities because of age alone. Embrace all the moments and opportunities

doitwithlove · 05/10/2024 21:53

58 and 59 here, we go to tribute bands, dance and have a damn good time.

Crikeyalmighty · 05/10/2024 23:55

I'm 62 - we work in music- bloody hell woman you are 59 not 89 -

Crikeyalmighty · 05/10/2024 23:56

I'm off to see David Gilmour, 10cc and squeeze in next few weeks -as well as several artists we work with -

yeesh · 05/10/2024 23:58

People of all ages go to all sorts of gigs. I took my mum to her first gig at the age of 64, we went to see Ed Sheeran.

Crikeyalmighty · 05/10/2024 23:59

@yirk- you go lovely - people who go to gigs stay younger in the head !!

I’m 65 and saw the Kilkers in June.

I’m hoping to get Springsteen tickets for next year.

I went to Springsteen in July and you're pretty much the demographic!

Sodoffmspoo · 06/10/2024 18:09

Yup. Am in Cambridge waiting for doors to open. My mother thinks I'm mad going without DH mind.

Sodoffmspoo · 06/10/2024 18:10

I'm 59 BTW.

lancashirelady · 06/10/2024 18:24

I went to see Nickleback this year at the grand old age of 68. Go, enjoy it, nobody will be judging you.

SoberSchmober · 06/10/2024 18:26

If I wanted to, of course I would! The other people there won't bat an eyelid.

KindOf · 06/10/2024 18:27

Restaurantcritic · 05/10/2024 19:15

Yeah I realise I’m not dead! I just haven’t seen a band live for a good few years.

Well, I don’t think anything much has changed!

knackeredmu · 06/10/2024 18:28

Bigearringsbigsmile · 05/10/2024 19:13

Oh for gods sake! You're 59 not dead!
