Would you go to a gig at 60?

Well 59 actually. There’s a band I really like who have quite a youngish audience I think but I really like them and want to see them live.

Would me and DH be a pair of saddos and stick out like a sore thumb? Or is our age irrelevant. I won’t be down the mosh pit I hasten to add!

Of course you should go you narna! I find that younger people are much more broad minded and accepting Than older people. They won’t even give tut a second thought.

SellFridges · 06/10/2024 18:36

I plan to go to more gigs when I’m 60, not less.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 06/10/2024 18:40

Do it!

Of course you should go. Plenty of older people go to gigs!

I'm 61, and go to plenty of gigs, but most of the artists mentioned on this thread would attract an older/mixed audience, so I understand that a young band and therefore predominantly young audience might make you feel awkward.
I went to see The Charlatans and James
and the age range was very much mine, but I was probably the oldest person at The 1975 gig I last saw. No one cared, least of all me. 😊

Our neighbours are in their mid-60s and moved from London to our city a decade ago because they love the band scene here.

They're out at gigs a couple of times every week and the husband has also started his own band which we're going to see next month!

Of course.
I'm 66 and went to see Westlife with my daughter.
I went to see the Artic monkeys with my Grandson.
I went to see Rod Stewart on my own.
I'm planning more with my Grandson .. we have the same tastes. He loves The Cure.. The Smiths etc all alternative l love still.

That's so lovely that you get to go with your daughter as well as your grandson!

AuntieMarys · 06/10/2024 19:21

I'm 66 and we went to see Harry Styles last year. Recently seen Last Dinner Party and Richard Hawley ...got tickets for Waterboys and Oasis next year.
We love live music! Go to lots of gigs every year in both intimate venues and stadiums

Mebebecat · 06/10/2024 19:25

Just seen the very lovely Sam Ryder and also have Turin brakes and They might be giants on the horizon. We are both 62.

Borgonzola · 06/10/2024 19:38

My 60 year old FIL goes to a gig a week!

I went to a gig earlier this year for an 00s indie band and there was a woman of probably 80 there, walker and everything.

Just enjoy yourself

FontainesDH · 06/10/2024 21:12

Of course go!
I'm going (see username) and wouldn't bat an eyelid at 60 year olds there. I'm in my 50s!

Don't be soft.
I go to gigs all the time. Some from my youth itgers really modern. I'm in my 60s

StopStartStop · 10/10/2024 13:43

I was out last night. It was good. I wasn't the oldest person there. I'm 66.

JaneJeffer · 10/10/2024 15:12

You're only allowed to go to Daniel O'Donnell gigs now that you're 60

Tomorrowisyesterday · 10/10/2024 18:44

Daniel O'Donnell is only 62. Mick Jagger is 81!

ExitPursuedByABare · 10/10/2024 19:02

Well I’ve got my tickets to see The Boss next May.

Bloody stressful booking process but got there in the end.

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 04/12/2024 00:09

Just home from seeing Fontaines DC in Leeds! Were you there @Restaurantcritic or a different city? And did you love it? I thought they were really good. Quite a mixed crowd in terms of age!

MysteriousUsername · 04/12/2024 00:17

My DP likes Fontaines DC and he's 63. He'd definitely go to see them.

EmbracingTheGrey · 04/12/2024 01:01

I'm 59, saw Fontaines, DC last week and they were wonderful. I hope you saw them! I go to gigs all the time. Do what you love till you can't.

Wherehavetheyallgone · 04/12/2024 01:26

I would like the idea of it and buy a ticket. But on the night I'd want a cosy night in instead! 😟

Daniel O'Donnell is only 62. Mick Jagger is 81!

I'm genuinely surprised at that! Not that he looks older, just that I associate him so closely with my aunts (his biggest fan girls) who would be in their 80s, one would be 90 this year.

StopStartStop · 04/12/2024 15:18

I do not believe that Daniel O'Donnell is younger than me.

gummywitch · 04/12/2024 22:44

I'm 64, saw Keane do an acoustic set on Friday night in the smallest room I've ever seen a band. Can honestly say they blew me away. Never heard anyone sound that good live ever and ive seen Freddie! Such nice guys too. You're never too old!

CMOTDibbler · 05/12/2024 17:06

I went to a gig last week, the singer is 62. He did full splits at one point, was jumping off the drum kit riser doing kicks, and at one point jumped off the stage, ran down the venue, jumped on the bar and danced on there still singing before running back.
