Just wondering if anyone else managed to to get Pulp tickets today, all my 20 something year old work colleagues had no idea who Pulp were and though I was mad for being so excited!

I can answer that but don’t want to spoil it for people who might not want to know! If I can work out how to Pm I’ll send you answer

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/07/2023 22:38

Don’t worry, I found a UK travel board and got loads of recs. case is packed!

waterlego · 07/07/2023 23:13

Off to Sheffield on Saturday and beyond excited! Just after some info. Who is supporting? Are they any good? And what time do pulp get on stage based on other gigs?

FartOutLoudDay · 12/07/2023 16:53

Richard Hawley is supporting

The2023 · 12/07/2023 16:55

Am so jealous, would love to go again! Think it was about 8.35 ish they came on at Finsbury Park- enjoy!

Thanks all. Can't blooming wait! Might end up at the Leadmill after before it gets closed down :-)

FartOutLoudDay · 12/07/2023 21:13

Any recommendations for things to do, places to eat/drink in Sheffield on Saturday?

MurielThrockmorton · 12/07/2023 21:17

I can't believe the Leadmill is still going! I first went there in 1986 when my best friend's sister was at Sheffield uni. It seemed very different from other clubs we'd been to, did it have a chill out area or somewhere you could get food? That seemed very exotic then!

EnolaAlone · 12/07/2023 21:23

Sheffield Arena have put the times on their Facebook event page:

Pulp with special guest Richard Hawley

Car Park & Box Office opens: 4pm
Doors Open: 6pm
Richard Hawley on Stage: 7:45pm
Interval: 8:30pm
PULP on Stage: 9pm
Curfew: 11pm

It's under threat of closure. Something due to change of landlord but I could be wrong. Seeing as I'm travelling 2 hours down there and staying over it makes sense to try and go before it's a dim and distant memory.

Sheffield is such a small city centre it's very easy to get about and find places for a drink.

The head of steam is reliable and there are often open air events in the square outside in the summer next to The Crucible.

Leopold Square has some good bars like Bamboo Door and again often have live music on sunny days.

Food wise - there's everything and anything. I did go off the beaten track once to an Ethiopian restaurant called Mesob which was an experience and the food was amazing but the surroundings were less than salubrious.

Noodle Doodle is a cheap and cheerful option in the city centre.

Trippits is again just a short walk from the main drag but worth it. The food has always been top notch there and the blend of food, music and an excellent range of drinks makes it a firm favourite with me.

If you want a chain for reliability the Turtle Bay is very good and in a good location.

Hope that helps a little 😀

FartOutLoudDay · 12/07/2023 22:47

It does, thank you!!

I love that there's a MN contingent going to the gig.

FartOutLoudDay · 12/07/2023 23:01

It’s been more than 20 years since I last saw them so am looking forward to it!

They will have their own 'Pulp' moment in 20 years time and then they will understand

justlass · 12/07/2023 23:31

I saw them in Scarborough on Sunday, they were absolutely brilliant! I'd never seen them before and they were everything I expected and more!

waterlego · 13/07/2023 00:29

I’ve just seen them tonight in Cardiff. Fourth time I’ve seen them (first time was 25 years ago) and they were superb ❤️

My 20-year-old loves Pulp and we are going to Latitude next week specifically to see them. She has been well trained though in 90s and 2000s indie! There was a Pointless question once, I think it was who sang disco 2000, which only 20% of people got, but DD did, she must've been about 15. She was also the only kid at a school residential trip of about 90 kids in a music quiz to recognise Mr. Brightside by The Killers when she was 11. Very proud parent moment 😂.

waterlego · 13/07/2023 18:44

Love that @MurielThrockmorton. My teens both enjoy ‘our’ music. DD (17) listens to a lot of 80s/early 90s. Is really into Kate Bush, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana, The Smiths… DS (15) more into mid/late 90s and loves Radiohead, Stereophonics, Oasis, Blur. He was jealous I went to see Pulp without him!

I tried to get tickets for me, DH, DD and DS to see Muse in Oct but couldn't justify £108 apiece for seated tix at the O2.
