STOP PRESS! Live pre-wedding webchat with our very own Kate Middleton, TODAY at 1pm

Hello. We're extremely honoured (and just a little bit over-excited) to announce that royal bride-to-be Kate Middleton is coming to MNHQ for a webchat today at 1pm.

A while back, we put in a formal request for Kate to take part in a Mumsnet webchat (nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that) but, truth be told, we weren't that hopeful, given her other pressing engagements this week.

But then, this morning, the Buckingham Palace Press Office rang to say Miss Middleton had some time this lunchtime between her last dress fitting and her first palace-balcony-etiquette briefing - and would be delighted to drop in and chat to Mumsnetters. Apparently, she's been lurking on Mumsnet quite a lot recently and has been finding the Bridezilla discussions a real eye opener. Shock

So, quick, please post your (suitably deferential) questions for Miss Middleton here - and join us for our very first royal webchat at 1pm.

I think the reason why the spoof didn't quite come off, because it wasn't a spoof it was wishful thinking on the part of Mumsnet. They wanted it to be real as did the rest of us. Grin

Oh, was it not true? Sad

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 26/04/2011 14:53

Not even pretend web guests answer my questions :(

MrsDaffodill · 26/04/2011 14:53

What a shame. I think the trouble is that people trust MNHQ, and they have pulled off some seriously heavy-duty guests before so will improbable that KM would be here, it was not impossible.

Some of that trust has now been lost and it is hard to know what that will mean for the site/site user relationship moving forward.

"Some of that trust has now been lost and it is hard to know what that will mean for the site/site user relationship moving forward."

Seriously? I just can't imagine how anyone could have thought for one moment how this would have been real. Though, judging by all the fawny questions, it obviously rang true for some people. Come on, it was a silly joke that misfired. That's all.

BitOfFun · 26/04/2011 15:03

There's talk of mutiny on another thread that they didn't swing a chat with Jesus for Easter...

MrsDaffodill · 26/04/2011 15:05

What I mean is that people won't trust them again and may be less willing/less loyal toward the site. I didn't mean everyone would be running off for counselling or anything. I do think that many people fell for it and that it will have left a bitter taste in many mouths. People don't like being duped.

FoofffyShmoofffer · 26/04/2011 15:06

BOF - especially since as it has been said on AIBU "he isn't actually dead".

So we know full well he was available.

Foofffy Grin. Excellent point.

BalloonSlayer · 26/04/2011 15:12

I think there is a degree of disingenuousness in this . . .

The only funny thing on this thread - and obviously not everyone agrees - is that some people thought it was for real and posted real questions.

However, MNHQ say that they never intended anyone to think it was for real and that it was intended as a joke.

But there was nothing witty or satirical about the posts from "Kate" when she came on. Literally nothing funny at all.

If I had been planning to do something like that I'd have had a good long think about what questions people would be likely to ask, rallied round everyone else to help and thought up some good, funny, dirty double-entendre replies, that would hopefully get a laugh. But . . . nothing. Not even an attempt.

So what did MNHQ think was going to be the funny joke everyone would enjoy, if it wasn't that some people would be fooled by it, (as MNHQ has denied this), and it wasn't the replies from "Kate" ( because they weren't funny) ?

Confused
Valpollicella · 26/04/2011 15:14

Eggu, I can only hope that all future guests get asked that as I asked it...Grin

Agree FakeKate could have been a bit funnier (sorry KateMN)

PinotGrigioBlush · 26/04/2011 15:17

Oh well I'm not sure the joke worked and I do feel a right plonker for falling for it but I'm chuffed that the kittens got so many mentions :) [kitten]

MNHQ If you do decide to make a donation to the vets bills in penance, please PM me for a paypal address

And thanks to FakeKate for sending them your wishes :)
