My DH says he wants to take me up the Oxo tower for Valentine's Day...

...but I must admit, I have my reservations.
It's not something he has ever suggested before. And we've been married for 15 years.
I'm quite adventurous and open to new experiences but really, I have to say this has taken me by surprise.
Has anyone else been taken up the Oxo tower? Was it an enjoyable experience? Would you recommend it?

Know what you mean molly, it's definitely more accommodating late at night.

PortofinosDHwillDieIfHeForgets · 15/02/2009 18:02

Yes. I always find it more fun at the weekend too. Not so rushed and hence much more enjoyable.

snooks · 15/02/2009 18:20

Oh, I couldn't rush it...I would get all out of breath. Mind you, I haven't been since I was pregnant - and it's just not the same with those round purple things at the entrance.

rofl at snooks...

PortofinosDHwillDieIfHeForgets · 15/02/2009 18:32

I think a large tip is important. They're always keen for you to come again.

NormaLeighLucid · 15/02/2009 18:39

I was taken up the OXO tower not so long back, initially there was a bit of a traffic jam so we stopped off, I visited the rest room, we set off again and it seemed it did the trick, it was pretty clear after that.

tumtumtetum · 15/02/2009 19:42

ROFL @ everyone

And DH ROFLing too...

I'm sure he'd love to go up the Oxo tower one day, he's just waiting for the right occasion.

Large tip gags superb

tumtumtetum · 15/02/2009 19:42

And Norma....

[snort]

snooks · 15/02/2009 20:10

Goodness me, I forgot about the all-important tip. I'm sure the staff would bend over backwards for a large tip.

Has anyone mentioned the security at the tower? Just a word of warning for anyone who hasn't yet been up, the security guys do form a rather close-knit circle when you first go in. You may be put off and turn away disappointed, but persevere - once you get past this point a whole new world opens up.

FairLadyRantALot · 15/02/2009 20:34

rofl snooks (and rofl even more, why I have been thinking your name sounds familiar...we had a aquaintaince that was nicknamed with your name in rl.......but doubt HE would be breastfeeding...rofl)

snooks · 15/02/2009 20:45

FairLady - your friend may not be breastfeeding, but he may be up the OXO tower as we speak.....

rofl

FairLadyRantALot · 15/02/2009 21:07

rofl.....well...ya never know....rofl

PortofinosDHwillDieIfHeForgets · 15/02/2009 21:35

Fairlady, do you think your friend gets up the Oxo Tower a lot? Maybe you should ask him about his experiences? I'm sure he'd be happy to share. He might even take you up there himself if you ask nicely? Or would your DH be jealous?

PortofinosDHwillDieIfHeForgets · 15/02/2009 21:50

I decided to look up some independant reviews:

Squaremeal says "Service is ?impeccable?" but there were "criticisms of ?style over substance?" As we know substance is very important.....

A reviewer on London Eating says "I Luuuuv this place! I am in the extra good books with my boss at the moment for organising a party up there"

Reviewcentre: "I would highly recommend if you are looking for a wow factor for a special occasion."

An anonymous reviewer said she was especially pleased with the Portion size.

BarcodeZebra · 15/02/2009 21:57

So, Molly. How was it?

Did you have the pork in cider?

PortofinosDHwillDieIfHeForgets · 15/02/2009 22:05

Ummm, Barcode, have you actually read any of this thread?

BarcodeZebra · 15/02/2009 22:14

Say it out loud Porto...

(Like the woman in the pub we went to where it was on the menu. Every five minutes she emerged from the kitchen yelling, "Pork in Cider? Who's having hot Pork in Cider?" I spat out more beer than I drank.)

FairLadyRantALot · 15/02/2009 22:23

lol Portofino......there may well be some jealoussy issues there though...saying that dh quite likes to take me up the Oxo Tower himself ....so, I am not missing out or anything

snooks · 15/02/2009 22:30

FairLadyRantALot · 15/02/2009 22:32
