My DH says he wants to take me up the Oxo tower for Valentine's Day...

...but I must admit, I have my reservations.
It's not something he has ever suggested before. And we've been married for 15 years.
I'm quite adventurous and open to new experiences but really, I have to say this has taken me by surprise.
Has anyone else been taken up the Oxo tower? Was it an enjoyable experience? Would you recommend it?

DH took me up the oxo tower once.

I have to say that my seat was rather uncomfortable and I found the experience quite unusual.

I think I'd let him take me there again but next time I'll have some more wine.

Talking of such things, did anyone else have a snigger at "Backstairs Billy"?

mollyroger · 12/02/2009 22:03

I am crying here...

my best friend has just told me she was taken up the oxo tower by her bofriend and it's still a sore point between them.

I 2nd the wine. You can never have enough wine!

PortofinosDHwillDieIfHeForgets · 12/02/2009 22:06

Did she agree to go, or did he take her by surprise?

dearprudence · 12/02/2009 22:07

Can you get champagne up there? I think that would enhance the experience.

mollyroger · 12/02/2009 22:08

I gather she was taken aback..

I heard about a woman once who accidentally double booked her dates and ended up being taken up the oxo tower twice in one night!

That's one to tell the grandchildren about.

PortofinosDHwillDieIfHeForgets · 12/02/2009 22:09

Tum, well I certainly hope SHE got some champagne up there. Sounds like she deserved it!

Molly, I bet she was! It's not often you get the chance!

Tum - I hope they cleared the area between sittings, I can't think of anything worse than having to put up with someone elses mess during an unforgetable experience

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine · 12/02/2009 22:31

Hoi, MNHQ! This is definitely one for the Classics...

ThumbLoveWitch · 12/02/2009 22:35

pmsl at this - especially the nice counterpointing between real and tongue-in-cheek posting!

I never fancied being taken up the OXO tower - much better viewed from the other side, I feel.

mollyroger · 13/02/2009 08:52

Now, any thoughts about tipping? Should we leave a small tip? Or will everything be included? Dh says one should always show appreciation when people are accomodating and if we are satisfied with the service recieved.
