My DH says he wants to take me up the Oxo tower for Valentine's Day...

...but I must admit, I have my reservations.
It's not something he has ever suggested before. And we've been married for 15 years.
I'm quite adventurous and open to new experiences but really, I have to say this has taken me by surprise.
Has anyone else been taken up the Oxo tower? Was it an enjoyable experience? Would you recommend it?

Would you consider being taken up the Oxo tower if eating out was involved too?

It seems like a lot of people on here have gone up the Oxo and just had quite a lot to drink...

mollyroger · 14/02/2009 20:17

Ok, you do know I'm kidding, right?
The chances of DH taking me up the Oxo Tower for Valentine's Day are about the same chances as me letting DH take me up the Oxo Tower. ever!

However I will eat owt. Especially after Dh serves up a fine beef wellington in about 15 minutes' time.

Aranea · 14/02/2009 20:19

Hm. Well I suppose maybe if the eating out came first then I might be amenable.

Aranea · 14/02/2009 20:20

Yes.... eating out also a double entendre...

tumtumtetum · 14/02/2009 20:22

ROFL@ beef wellington...

What on earth could that mean

Winehouse · 14/02/2009 20:26

So you are having your choux stuffed with beef, are you? Lucky you. It will be all I can manage to persuade dh to spread some cheese on a cracker.

tumtumtetum · 14/02/2009 20:30

Beef wellington.

Take a fine length of beef (doesn't need to be british - but IME scotch is especially satisfying)

Slather the length with pate to lubricate

Insert into close fitting lining

Enjoy.

I believe this recipe is also used by people who visit the oxo tower.

Winehouse · 14/02/2009 20:34

Are you meant to wear rubber boots as well?

pollywobbledoodle · 14/02/2009 20:35

dh has a new job....he says he's on the gravy train now....does that go up the oxo tower?

i like my beef in a wellington or my pig in a blanket when we go up there

LadyOfWaffle · 14/02/2009 20:37

My uncle used to work up the OXO Tower, he said it was actually a right shit hole.

Tumtum, I must admit I could go for a bit of Scotch beef! I was thinking the very same whilst watching the rugby.

I had an Aberdeen Angus once - it was lovely, but very filling!

PortofinosDHwillDieIfHeForgets · 15/02/2009 13:08

It wasn't up the Oxo Tower though.....

BoffinMum · 15/02/2009 15:20

I think was taken up the Oxo Tower by a peer of the realm once. If I am thinking of the correct place, as I recall, they have little lights on the bar to illuminate your champagne. I do like my champagne illuminated, don't you?

FairLadyRantALot · 15/02/2009 15:47

rofpmsl....

Molly, Molly, Molly...

Zaftig · 15/02/2009 15:55

I am crying with laughter. I wondered why this thread had so many posts. Really should pay more attention.

FairLadyRantALot · 15/02/2009 15:58

lol....
zaftig...to my shame, I only really just make that connection...because of another thread...and I had that lightbulb moment...
I had seen the thread, but didn't really think anything of te title until just now, lol

Dh is having trouble understanding why all the girls get so excited at the thought of being taken up the Oxo tower. He thinks it's a bit passé. He did say he had fond memories of the time he took me up the Arc de Triomphe though.

PortofinosDHwillDieIfHeForgets · 15/02/2009 17:42

Reality, was the service quick? What about the tip? Was it a big one?

snooks · 15/02/2009 17:46

It really is best not to go up the OXO tower first thing in the morning I've found, it can be rather full at that time of day.

mollyroger · 15/02/2009 17:52

I know what you mean snooks. For example, I always find it embarrassing to be watched filling my face. I am not ladylike and have a tendancy to gobble.
