How often does your OH think about the Roman Empire?

Just for fun

saw on Facebook a post saying that men think about the Roman Empire every day. The woman asked her husband and he said this was true and that he thinks about it daily. The comments was people asking their husbands how often they think about the Roman Empire with some very funny responses 😂

So, I’ll start .., I’ve just asked DH and he said “at least twice a week, why?”

would love to hear other Responses to this random question

“how often do you think about the Roman Empire?”

"Errrrrmmmm" furrowed brow, hands on hips. "Every couple of years".

SheSaidHummingbird · 12/09/2023 20:54

Is Roman Empire a secret code for something? A euphemism. This is weird.

benecarlos · 12/09/2023 20:55

My husband says most days too - however we do live pretty much on Hadrians wall so confronted with it everyday when he leaves the house

BBno4 · 12/09/2023 20:55

Dh says everyday, then I told him about the thread

borninthe80esss · 12/09/2023 20:55

Thankyou for this thread.. I'm in hysterics!
Just asked my DH.. Deadpan response of about once a week sometimes more. Like that's perfectly sodding normal.
I asked if there was anything in particular that he thinks about.. Mainly Gladiator training and how he could really beef up if he did it.. He's currently sat eating a cornetto.

pizzaplaneteer · 12/09/2023 20:55

It's a "never" with a confused expression from my DH

aspirationalflamingo · 12/09/2023 20:56

Is this like "netflix and chill"?

Polis · 12/09/2023 20:56

Probably two or three times a week. Usually, but multiple times a day recently.

We have been staying near a Roman site.

monpetitlapin · 12/09/2023 20:56

He doesn't, but I do every time the mainstream press butchers the word "decimated". Amongst other things that remind me, like when I'm changing a nappy and remember the Horrible Histories sponge-on-a-stick 🤣

GetWhatYouWant · 12/09/2023 20:57

Is this a remake of I, Claudius people are watching, or is it being repeated in all its kitsch 1970s glory?

It's the original 1976 series, now on BBC iPlayer.

FlameGrilledSquirrel · 12/09/2023 20:57

No I am Spartacus

MajesticWhine · 12/09/2023 20:57

DH said once in the last week but says that doesn't count as it was prompted by an article in the Times. Usually it's never.
I told him he should probably think about it more often but now he's eye rolling Grin

Therearetoomanyofus · 12/09/2023 20:57

My DP ' Not often, sometimes when I eat salad' 🙄

OneTC · 12/09/2023 20:57

I rarely think of it unless prompted by a TV show or something like this thread. Which are the last 2 times I've thought about it, so that's twice in the last 2 weeks or so

Hummusanddipdip · 12/09/2023 20:58

Well dh response was "the what?" He had headphones on, I repeated the question and his reply was to roll his eyes and say "oh all day every single day"

Not sure I got an honest response there 🤣🤔

My year 3 class are currently studying the Stone, Bronze and Iron ages into the Romans, so twice a week for me when we do history, all day yesterday when we visited an archaeological site.

Ozarkz · 12/09/2023 20:58

I’ve just asked my mum and I’m disappointed to learn that my stepdad NEVER thinks about the Roman Empire!

id ask my son but he’s currently writing a book on it so I’d say the answer is obvious there 😂

HappyCamperTent · 12/09/2023 20:41

Is it a euphemism for something else?

Either that or some kind of viral marketing campaign! Is there a remake of "I, Claudius" or something being released?
(DH said "never" btw)

bellac11 · 12/09/2023 20:59

I think about the Roman Empire a lot, nearly every day I would think. But then I love history.

I bet my OH thinks about it every day, I will ask him

dontletsaskforthemoon · 12/09/2023 20:59

DH response:

"Eh...cant remember the last time...why? Is this a trick question? Is there a punchline? Well only in a Bigus Dickus kind of way I suppose...but not that often.

StrawberrySquash · 12/09/2023 20:59

Couple of times a week. It is relevant in so many contexts: where am I going on holiday? How does it affect some other historical thing e.g. Diocletian's economic reforms linked to the development of serfdom? Slavery. Religious change - the development of Christianity and comparison to modern social changes. Latin and classics and all that.

LunaNorth · 12/09/2023 20:59

DH says once a month, but on the whole he’s more of a medievalist 😂

justasoul · 12/09/2023 20:59

DH said “every day. What have Rome ever done for us?”

the80sweregreat · 12/09/2023 20:59

My dh never mentions it , but we did see ' carry on Cleo ' on tv over Christmas and he remarked how fit Cleo was

WithASpider · 12/09/2023 20:59

DH says a few times a month, usually when my Dad comes up in convo - Dad is obsessed with Romans!
I did get the 3rd degree as to why it was important though.

coxesorangepippin · 12/09/2023 20:59

Dunno but I think about James Purefoy when he was in Rome a lot
