How often does your OH think about the Roman Empire?

Just for fun

saw on Facebook a post saying that men think about the Roman Empire every day. The woman asked her husband and he said this was true and that he thinks about it daily. The comments was people asking their husbands how often they think about the Roman Empire with some very funny responses 😂

So, I’ll start .., I’ve just asked DH and he said “at least twice a week, why?”

would love to hear other Responses to this random question

“how often do you think about the Roman Empire?”

My dh said never but then said " now if you'd asked me about the Abyssinian empire it would be a different matter"

Yeah, dh thinks about Mesopotamia more frequently, apparently.

Barnowlsandbluebells · 12/09/2023 20:39

I've just asked mine - the answer was virtually never unless he's in close proximity to Chester.

MoxieFox · 12/09/2023 20:39

I think about the Romans several times a week. I blame my news feed constantly giving me news stories to read about them. I was just reading about Diocletian and how he retired to tend his vegetable garden in a luxury seaside villa in Illyria (modern day Croatia). He was one of very few Emperors to voluntarily abdicate instead of being assassinated.

My DH is more a sci fi guy so he thinks about battle mecha and Star Wars stuff instead.

Loving the responses! I don’t know why I find it so funny 😂 it’s so random!

although now I want to watch Claudius 🤦‍♀️

Dh says once every five weeks

DuploTrain · 12/09/2023 20:40

My DH said “infrequently”. And didn’t ask why I wanted to know.. so he must not have the most enquiring of minds.

975zyx · 12/09/2023 20:40

DH says about twice a week, it’s a fairly regular topic of conversation around here though - we have a house full of history nerds.

MsSquiz · 12/09/2023 20:40

Originally DH said "a few times a year" but then said "actually, more like monthly"
When I asked why he thinks about it monthly he said it is whenever he's thinking or talking about certain areas near where we live that are directly linked to the Romans.

We do live in Northumberland, so that does seem like a valid response given our proximity to Hadrian's wall

HappyCamperTent · 12/09/2023 20:41

Is it a euphemism for something else?

GreenMonty · 12/09/2023 20:41

Asked DH and he said he thought about the Roman empire today because he was in a bookshop. DS is 14 and it's on his mind a lot because he wants to study Classics but I think the desire declines as you get older 😁😉

trulyunruly01 · 12/09/2023 20:42

He said "never" as he rummaged in the fridge for more cheese.

Lurleene · 12/09/2023 20:42

" Well I googled it the day before yesterday funnily enough, why do you ask?" Then looked at me suspiciously and is probably deleting his browser history right now.

PinkDaffodil2 · 12/09/2023 20:42

DH thought about heratious holding a bridge today on his cycle home - then about Caesar. When pushed - maybe a few times a week?

Eddyraisins · 12/09/2023 20:43

Is it a euphanism?

How often does your OH think about the Roman Empire?
Moneyworrier123 · 12/09/2023 20:43

My DP said ‘now that’s a very good question’ 😆 apparently everyday if he’s playing a certain game but otherwise it’s at least two or three times a week. One day he’d like one of the big Roman helmets apparently 🤷‍♀️

MoxieFox · 12/09/2023 20:43

And earlier this week I was reading about how we have 2,000yr old Roman drainage systems designed to siphon off heavy rain that still work perfectly around here when the local council can’t construct anything that lasts more than 20yrs or do a pothole repair that lasts more than 20 minutes.

Lol!

BestIsWest · 12/09/2023 20:43

DH said ‘Never’ but I reminded him we had a conversation about it last week so he changed it to ‘only when prompted’.

SpringSummerDreamer · 12/09/2023 20:43

Whenever I'm on the Foss Way ...that's about it!

LaMarschallin · 12/09/2023 20:44

Mine asked if that would include the Byzantine Empire as towards the end of the Roman Empire...

Then he was saying something about north and south when I tuned back in.

Franticbutterfly · 12/09/2023 20:44

My DH said "only when I watch Gladiator, or am in Rome".

crostini · 12/09/2023 20:44

Very often apparently.
I told him about this thread and he informed me that he is probably thinking about the Roman Empire 'better' than all the other men.

Something to do with how everyone else is likely thinking about the east, whilst he's thinking about the west. Ffs 🤦‍♀️

😂😂😂😂 so glad I posted this, it’s just as funny as the Facebook thread 🤣

I probably think about it every day in one way or another. I am not a man though.
