How often does your OH think about the Roman Empire?

Just for fun

saw on Facebook a post saying that men think about the Roman Empire every day. The woman asked her husband and he said this was true and that he thinks about it daily. The comments was people asking their husbands how often they think about the Roman Empire with some very funny responses 😂

So, I’ll start .., I’ve just asked DH and he said “at least twice a week, why?”

would love to hear other Responses to this random question

“how often do you think about the Roman Empire?”

DH's response: Almost never!

My and DC's response - about three times per week. One of the DCs is obsessed with Classics. I have learnt more about the Roman Empire and ancient Athens than I ever thought possible. DH must zone them out.

Love to meet these Roman Empire types
I bet they always dress as Emperors at fancy dress parties

Dorksdirectdotcom · 12/09/2023 21:06

DH says rarely. Me = Fairly often because I work in a field that was used in Roman times.

And i sometimes work with asbestos surveyors....which was used by the Romans. They even documented how asbestos was making men ill

MrG answered "Maybe once every 6 to 8 months" and when I said "No, seriously ..." he laughed and said, well, he had absolutely no idea but that seemed to him like a reasonably vague answer.

Fair enough, really. I mean, how often do you think about Genghis Khan?

Deliaskis · 12/09/2023 21:06

Most days, says DH. This is a hilarious thread!

GreenMarigold · 12/09/2023 21:06

4 times in the last 48 hours apparently!

Certainlyreally · 12/09/2023 21:06

DH said "oh every 5 minutes or so"

(then he tried to cover with "I was joking obviously".... i'm not so sure )

MrsJBaptiste · 12/09/2023 21:06

I'm so confused! Why on earth would anyone be thinking of the Roman Empire? And why some so often???

dontletsaskforthemoon · 12/09/2023 21:07

This has got to be the most bizarre but entertaining topic on AIBU! I'm laughing my head off reading the comments...surely this has got to go into Classics?!

MargaretThursday · 12/09/2023 21:07

Only when he's playing "Age of Empires".

the80sweregreat · 12/09/2023 21:07

I do often wonder how we got from the Romans in Britain ( who seemed pretty organized) to the likes of Rishi Sunak , but it can blow your mind a bit

reddingweddy · 12/09/2023 21:07

Several times a week apparently...

Mother87 · 12/09/2023 21:07

DH - "all the time" - Mary Beard is possibly his fantasy womanGrin

AdoraBell · 12/09/2023 21:07

Mine only thinks about business, cars and yachts.

enjoyingscience · 12/09/2023 21:08

Not daily, but definitely several times a week.

‘Viaducts and that’, apparently.

Fartooold · 12/09/2023 20:51

I know this is off piste, but my DH used to assert that he could think nothing.

Nothing. His brain could be completely empty of any thought.

This can't be true, surely? He always looked a bit vacant, but still...

Omg he doesn't have an internal monologue!

CatAndHisKit · 12/09/2023 21:09

Interesting to know not so kuch 'how often' but what is it they think about it, mostly?
I think it's easy to think or Romans in the UK due to the many Roman roads / archaeology around the country, but apart from that?

spiderlight · 12/09/2023 21:09

Mine says between ten and twenty times a day, but he's a senior lecturer in Ancient History so he might skew the sample slightly 🤣

LaDoIceVita · 12/09/2023 21:09

DH said several times a day - usually when he swerves to avoid pot holes and that we need the Romans back to sort the roads out. And sometimes if he's thinking about orgies but he isn't really fussed if they're Roman or not Hmm Then he asked in a very suspicious voice why I wanted to know, sighed and said he supposed it was Mumsnet nonsense again Grin

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 12/09/2023 21:09

Love this! Most days according to dh.

the80sweregreat · 12/09/2023 21:10

With dh it's cars and motorbikes
If he saw an Emperor in or on either type of vehicle, he would definitely be interested then

tenpoundpom · 12/09/2023 21:10

To answer the OP, he said hardly ever. He thinks of Egypt more often, apparently 😳 Not sure if that's ancient Egypt or something else but I don't really want to open that can of worms...

Chocolatepopcorn · 12/09/2023 21:10

Never but the Romans never came to Ireland. I do think their armour was cool and I have read I, Claudius.

CatAndHisKit · 12/09/2023 21:10

P.S. We have 'Roman Road' an actual street name just round he corner, ,haha.

Nandocushion · 12/09/2023 21:10

DH just finished all six volumes of Gibbon's Decline and Fall, and then immediately started it again, so I don't really need to ask.
