How often does your OH think about the Roman Empire?

Just for fun

saw on Facebook a post saying that men think about the Roman Empire every day. The woman asked her husband and he said this was true and that he thinks about it daily. The comments was people asking their husbands how often they think about the Roman Empire with some very funny responses 😂

So, I’ll start .., I’ve just asked DH and he said “at least twice a week, why?”

would love to hear other Responses to this random question

“how often do you think about the Roman Empire?”

So after days of wondering, I have asked DP. As expected, he said never. Looked confused and asked a few questions. Then said how many DPs have been asked if they have tried to level up or turn super saien (probably spelt incorrectly)

Fun fact, I think Cato may have been the first “goth naturist” as he was known for moping around Rome in a black toga instead of the usual white toga and refusing to wear any bright colours. He would also be naked under his toga (usually a tunic was worn). Some mornings he would go for a stroll completely naked, not even wearing sandals.

Where was this sort of stuff in my Latin A-level?
(To be fair, we did Catullus, which makes Cato look a bit tame.)

I asked my youngest son yesterday how often he thinks about the Roman Empire. Without hesitation he said “a couple of times a week, why?” I burst out laughing and he was like “what?? What’s funny??” 😂😂 I should have known as he is obsessed with renaissance art - he then started mansplaining to me about why we should all be thinking about the Roman Empire at least once a week 😂😂

To be fair when I told him about this thread he did find it highly amusing that he’d fitted in with the stereotype so well

Asked my DH (even though I pretty much knew the answer). He gave me a funny look and said he doesn't think he's ever thought about it. I bet DS has though 😂

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 16/09/2023 11:56

My DH said he never thinks about it. I'm not surprised, he's too busy watching videos about tractors.

Another example of why we think about the Roman empire - was at the O2 in London last night and started wondering if the colloseum in Rome had a bigger or smaller capacity. Answer is the O2 is 20,000 capacity but the colloseum was...50,000!

The colosseum in Rome is quite impressive. I watched a history show that talked about crowd control and how they are designed in a such a way that you can fill or empty them in about 12 minutes due to their design.

I went to the Roman amphitheater in Tarragona (seats 14,000) which is very well preserved. I went when they did their Roman festival. Got to sit in it and watch gladiators.

My usually mild-mannered and sensitive boyfriend has just shouted 'This is absolute bullshit! And I'm sick of you going on about it!'.

Staygoldponyboystaygold · 16/09/2023 22:23

DH says about once a month. I had no idea!

Kam610 · 16/09/2023 22:24

I asked my DH this tonight after seeing various videos on tiktok about it. I didn't think it was something he would ever think about. This is how it went:

Me: "how often do you think of the roman empire?"
DH: "not often, why?"
Me: just wondering, how often? Like weekly/monthly?"
DH: "probably about once a week, I thought about it today actually as I saw some clay in the ground when I was working"

🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was in hysterics and he doesn't understand why it's so funny! He said there's a lot to think about!

Jewelanemone · 16/09/2023 22:29

Just asked DH. He looked a bit confused and said 'Well, I did think about Charlemagne as I was walking across the carpark the other day.'

🤔

He looked confused, said “never”, then asked if it was a Dementia test.

This made me nearly spit out my tea with laughter!

JayJayj · 17/09/2023 07:54

My husband said “what the f&£@‘s the Roman Empire” I was like really!!
one brother in law said a couple of times a week and the other said he can’t think of something he knows nothing about.
my husband thinks about fishing ever day though!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 17/09/2023 09:01

I haven't read the whole thread (saw it when it started earLier this week) but wanted to let you all know that Roman empire is trending on twitter.

Diva66 · 17/09/2023 10:25

Quite a lot as I studied the history of the Roman Empire and listen to audiobooks such as SPQR by Prof Mary Beard so he can’t really avoid it 😂

Loving this thread, some brilliant comments,

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 17/09/2023 12:56

My husband said he has never thought about it and my son (25) said I'm not going to lie, I never have and never will. I didn't expect anything different from either of them.

rb124 · 17/09/2023 23:26

Just asked and it's a big fat 0, but he does think the "biggus dickus" sketch in life of Brian is funny - does that count?

PinotPony · 18/09/2023 11:19

This is all over my news feed. Chris Evans on Virgin Radio and keeps popping up on IG and TikTok!

Who started this madness?! 🤣

somethinghastochangesoon · 18/09/2023 12:56

Just seen a video on Instagram from an account called themuffreport and it's asking men how often they think about the Roman Empire haha

Romanempirethoughts · 18/09/2023 20:09

Husband said couple times per year. Poll of husbands in my circle confirmed either only when they watch Life of Brian or once per year - they're all bucking the trend!

belinda789 · 19/09/2023 09:53

A mare's nest of a situation if there ever was one. A gigantic hoax.......Can't you see that you have all been conned?

LoveMyHome · 19/09/2023 13:00

My utterly delightfully intelligent and well-informed children, sounded an equal measure of annoyance and concern for my mental stability that I had even ask the question in the first place.

The half concerned – half offended reply came back; "Never. Of course!"

When I reminded them that we had recently driven down a straight road, and they had remarked that the Romans must've once been here, I was cut off and told that doesn't count!

eggandonion · 19/09/2023 17:00

My dh reckons English people with Roman roads and placenames would have the advantage. The Romans didn't come to Ireland. Until ice cream arrived!

TLKlover · 19/09/2023 23:36

I had to come and find this thread again as this came up on my timeline.

I don't know where it started from but it's really made me chuckle. Husband said "about every couple of weeks, esp when we go on drives"

We drive through a town that has a museum, and to the lakes on occasion. I did pre-empt it with "humour me, I'm asking you a ramdom MN question". he shrugged and went 'yeah every few weeks'.
