How often does your OH think about the Roman Empire?

Just for fun

saw on Facebook a post saying that men think about the Roman Empire every day. The woman asked her husband and he said this was true and that he thinks about it daily. The comments was people asking their husbands how often they think about the Roman Empire with some very funny responses 😂

So, I’ll start .., I’ve just asked DH and he said “at least twice a week, why?”

would love to hear other Responses to this random question

“how often do you think about the Roman Empire?”

Love this! Made me chuckle! My OH is italian so I will ask. Currently popped back to visit his mum. I'm very intrigued at his answer! Will update later! 🤣

I don't know about DH but I think about the Roman Empire a lot, most days! The Antonine Wall was very near where I live, plus other ruins and recently there have been more Roman discoveries found close to where I walk the dog! I find it fascinating they got so far!

So- which historical period do women think most about? Difficult to think of a time when women were regarded with much respect. I am obsessed with Third century Rome while working my way through Harry Sidebottom's fantastic historical novels, but would not have been glad to live then, even if I had been wealthy and a member of the social elite. I think my former husband had little interest in any historical period.?

SuperCat123 · 14/09/2023 15:33

I'm a woman & I only think about the Roman empire because I watch plebs 🤣 definitely not historically accurate but I never knew it was actually a thing 😂

All sorts for me - I'm a history graduate, I have an interest in a very specific, niche area of WWII so people often send me links/ info about that and I follow the social media of some connected institutions. We are also medieval reenactors and have friends that do loads of different periods so thinking about friends can trigger thoughts about the era I associate them with. When you know people as cave man Dave' Clare the Victorian baby farmer, Ali the Tudor and Bob the gladiator a quick peak at Facebook/IG can leads to thoughts about loads of different historical periods.

Queenoftheworld · 14/09/2023 17:19

My DH: "quite a few times this week" 😁

MarkWithaC · 14/09/2023 17:25

I think about the Roman Empire quite a bit. Also the Tudors/Elizabethans (I love the intrigue and politicking), and the 18th century as I love Georgian/Regency material culture and art.
WW2 quite a bit for work as I work on a lot of historical novels.
The Soviet era a fair bit as it fascinates me that so many countries so close to the UK, and so recently, were part of that culture.

Tudors for me.

I think about Greek mythology too, but less about Ancient Greek reality as it were.

What a brilliant random question!
My DH's answer was once or twice a week.

TheSweetestHalleluja · 14/09/2023 20:10

This has given me a good laugh today! DH said a couple of times a month but the World Wars 5-10 times a month. Grin

Sennelier1 · 14/09/2023 21:06

Mine says "well, it happens that I think about the Roman Empire, but I couldn't possibly put a number on it" 🤩

Lavender14 · 14/09/2023 21:22

On average twice a week apparently... he's a history buff though...

Sapphire387 · 14/09/2023 22:00

DH said

Which bit of it?

MinimalistMe · 14/09/2023 22:05

Just asked mine, at least once a week he said 😂

Fascinating

QuietlyWonderful · 14/09/2023 22:09

DP just looked over my shoulder - "is that still going on? Oh well, carpe diem!"

Robinni · 15/09/2023 11:14

DH says “not that often” disappointingly, I was hoping for a world of hidden knowledge about his inner psyche.

I love the Tudors too. I probably spend too much time thinking about 90s/00s stars/music and getting distracted by celeb news.

Jumpingoffthefence · 15/09/2023 17:07

Asked my DS (25) his response “rarely, why?”

He did share that he thinks of the Victorian’s most days.

I rarely think of either but would think about Victorian’s more because there’s lots of visual reminders of them in architecture etc.

Loobieloogold · 15/09/2023 17:21

Jeez, this made me laugh. My soon to be EXH wished he lived in the Roman Empire days (or Tudor).

I wish he did too.

He even has lots of Folio Society books on various things/ people "Roman". Urgh, I thought it was just another annoying trait of his alone! 😂

Hotmessmum · 15/09/2023 19:14

Is roman empire a euphemism?

BitOutOfPractice · 15/09/2023 19:33

“Plebs” just came up on bbc iPlayer. Dp said “oh god now I’m thinking about the Roman Empire again!” 😂

AngryBirdsNoMore · 15/09/2023 21:46

Asked DH. He gave me two occasions today he’d thought about it. “But usually it’s about once a day.”

AngryBirdsNoMore · 15/09/2023 21:54

DH has just said he has named our car ‘Gaius Julius Skoda Octavianus’ in tribute to the Emporer Octavian…

MoxieFox · 15/09/2023 22:03

I’m busy naming cats on Neko Atsume with Roman names.
The lazy tubby cat is now Odium
The vocal one is Cato
The flirty one is Marc Antony

Fun fact, I think Cato may have been the first “goth naturist” as he was known for moping around Rome in a black toga instead of the usual white toga and refusing to wear any bright colours. He would also be naked under his toga (usually a tunic was worn). Some mornings he would go for a stroll completely naked, not even wearing sandals.

MALJA · 15/09/2023 22:06

my husband’s response was ‘never’

Wheredothestarsgointhedaytime · 15/09/2023 22:41

My husband said "everyday, why?" Like wtaf?!!
