BlushBlush

We are meeting four of his school friends outside to sing happy birthday. I’m quite friendly with two of the mums. I’ve got an hour and a half to go and choose a supermarket cake and apologise to DS (5 years old) OR style it out. I’ve got fondant dinosaurs to stick round the bottom layer too.

What would you do??

I think it's fantastic and awful, but obviously made with love!
Much better than a shop bought cake 🎂

AlohaMolly · 10/05/2021 13:05

Just to add, I have candles to hide the PLASTIC STRAW I’ve had to poke through the top to stop it all sliding apart. I’ve also got to drive it three minutes to the ‘party’ spot.

NB it is not a party.

Looks brill! No styling needed and they'll all be perfectly impressed.

AlohaMolly · 10/05/2021 13:05

Fantastic but awful is incredibly generous thank you GrinSad

I’ve made all his cakes so far and they are all very amateur but this really is the worst!

It's amazing, well done. Everyone will enjoy it.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 10/05/2021 13:06

I think I'd be inclined to buy one to share and keep this magnificent creation for home enjoyment. Double the joy for ds 😂😊

AlohaMolly · 10/05/2021 13:07

I also want to add that it is very tasty, it’s a good chocolate sponge recipe that i trialled last night, Nutella Icing inside and then grated and melted chocolate as the volcano and lava but for the love of god...

Style it out! I think it's great. Hope the rain keeps off for you.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 10/05/2021 13:07

It sounds amazing but I'd be very worried about collapse on the way

BluebellsGreenbells · 10/05/2021 13:07

I think you need to cover the white - it’s that that makes it look odd. The rest is perfect.

HermioneWeasley · 10/05/2021 13:08

Well, it looks like a volcano

QuentinBunbury · 10/05/2021 13:09

Looks amazing! I'd go and find some red sweets (haribo maybe) and stick on the icing. Maybe some indoor sparklers for an "eruption" and jobs a good'un!
Hes 5. He will love it.

Couchpotato3 · 10/05/2021 13:09

Definitely style it out. Love a good homemade volcano cake! Crack on with the fondant dinosaurs. Anyone who has anything negative to say about it can f*ck right off!

WeCameToDance · 10/05/2021 13:10

I love it! Grin
It is 1000% times better than anything I could create and for that reason I only do shop bought birthday cakes.
Please take it, a lot of love has obviously gone into it and they will think it’s great!

Terrazzo · 10/05/2021 13:13

Aww I love it! Its definitely a volcano! I am a pro cake maker and the plastic straw is deffo something we do so hey!

Popcornbetty · 10/05/2021 13:13

A few dinosaurs and crumbled flake over it and job done. It will taste so much better than those awful dry store bought cakes! I reckon the kids will love that too!

howdidigettobe50something · 10/05/2021 13:13

I think that's brilliant and absolutely what a home made volcano cake should look like! And as it tastes delicious too I think it's a win win! Hope it is enjoyed by all 😁

crumpet · 10/05/2021 13:15

Have you got time to get some darker green food ink- think it’s the pastel green which may need some help

EduCated · 10/05/2021 13:15

Definitely go for it! My all time favourite birthday cake was the one my mum almost didn’t serve because she was so embarrassed by it! Grin

AlohaMolly · 10/05/2021 13:16

I’m half way to Tesco Grin if I could invite them in I think I’d keep it and laugh but it’s chucking it down and I have to transport it somehow so it will probably disintegrate along the way!

Imissmoominmama · 10/05/2021 13:16

It’s a fantastic volcano (and it looks tasty too). Are you going to stick a sparkler in the top?

Popcornbetty · 10/05/2021 13:16

On closer inspection looks like you already did that so a few dinosaurs scaling it and it'll look fab

HamAndCheeseToastie5032 · 10/05/2021 13:16

It's definitely an ice breaker.

Tinselandlights · 10/05/2021 13:18

It is great! I made my DD a terrible Frozen castle and she thought it was absolutely amazing so crack on with the dinosaurs!

AlohaMolly · 10/05/2021 13:19

Interestingly, mumsnet has the complete opposite Opinion to my DM who has told me to drive like the wind after seeing the picture Grin
