Stuff you think must happen to other people - but can't risk asking?

999 replies

IMissFrance · 03/02/2021 11:21

Anyone else have stuff happen to you that must happen to others.

But you can't really ask because what if they say "NO! How weird!" And then you can never talk to that person again. Wink

So I'm bringing it to the anonymity of Mumsnet.

I'd love to hear other peoples. And will start off.

 • whenever I wash my hair in the shower (I have long hair) loose hairs wash down my back and end up in my bum crack. End of my shower I have to check there's no hair left.

I can't be alone in this grossness! (Or can I)

@PolarnOPirate

Does anyone else's pubes grow really far down their legs? My mum used to not shave the back of her thighs for swimming on holidays etc and always mortified me.

Also if you shave your pubes how the hell do you get right in there without cutting yourself.... this is always the main reason I have always just had a neat bush rather than all off. Also have never been for a wax because how do you prep for that, what if there is discharge etc present!! Horror! I have no-one to ask IRL haha.

I have the same question @PolarnOPirate! About shaving and getting right in there. I’m sure I’ve got the hairiest muff in the world.

Also, is it normal to have a hairy bum crack?? (and I’m not referring to head hair being displaced by the shower!). My pubes literally spread up to my bum Blush

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 04/02/2021 22:57

I think this thread goes to show that women don't talk about this stuff enough.

MaddieElla · 04/02/2021 22:57

I can confirm that "la la la" or "no no no" or a quick shuffle of your legs in bed helps with getting the shame of past mistakes out of your head.

They always come at night and I'm more embarrassed the more time that passes. I hope the people involved can't remember the events as well as I do. Grin

Grapefruity · 04/02/2021 23:06
@Grapefruity, yes, is that adrenaline? I also can’t stop myself from braking hard with both feet (on the passenger side Grin)
Yes!!! Sympathetic braking I think its called.

shas19 · 04/02/2021 23:07

@2021ComeAtMe oh my God! This happens to me. I literally open my mouth and it sprays out😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

kirktonhouse · 04/02/2021 23:09

I have to smell food that someone else gives me before I eat it, even if it's something I've made myself.

I can smell when the kids are ill, if the dog is ill, and my own wee smells weird if I'm getting ill.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 04/02/2021 23:11

I'm sorry that you had a miscarriage Deacon

There are a few of us perpetual leakers on this thread - could we start a Mumsnet dairy? Make viper ice-cream?

CALLMEMUM · 04/02/2021 23:15

I need granny pants and tena lady and I'm only 47.Blush , why some women are like brand new down there 1 month after childbirth while I never recovered from.it?[angry]

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 04/02/2021 23:18

Did we get an answer to what the tiny little glass filaments poking through skin are?

Mine come out of stretch marks. Nice.

Sweetpea84 · 04/02/2021 23:22

I have one bloody single hair growing next to my nipple

namechangedtoprotecttheshy · 04/02/2021 23:48

Yes to getting crampy, painful urge to poo in libraries - and M&S and selected other shops. I always put it down to having a digestive system that tended towards IBS type symptoms that get worse with stress*. Could never work out why it happened in places I liked and wanted to be but I’m fascinated that it’s actually a thing.

*if I get a really really bad shock, like someone dies, then my body reacts by pushing everything out of my digestive system and I need the toilet instantly. Always assumed it was how my body reacts to adrenaline - a little bit of stress I get cramps and wind, a lot of stress and I’m naturally prepped for a colonoscopy.

I’m also very hairy in my nether regions, with hair growing inwards well towards my labia. I shaved once and it was bloody agony growing out as all the stubble in the folds rubbed in the pink and delicate bits, and I even wore a hole in my knickers at the top of the camel-toe area. Blush. Never again. Trimmed and tidy only.

I’ve also got an amount of very long (couple of inches) very blond wiry hair growing on the small of my back. Plus arose crack hair, nipple hairs, a very fine blond hair that grows out of my neck and one on my nose. No unicorn hair yet, plenty on my chin and upper lip but then I’ve had pcos all my life. For a short time in my forties, the years of plucking seemed to have resulted in only needing to check every couple of days, then peri menopause hit and reactivated all the damn follicles to grow white wires with bizarrely black roots. Oh, and when I’ve plucked a really thick hair, I’ve got to feel it with my lips, particularly the wet root end.

peanutbuttermilkshake · 04/02/2021 23:55

@MaddieElla

Sometimes when I drink water, I smell faeces

Oh my GOD!!! ME TOO!!! Water used to be my favourite drink and I got through litres of it a day, was always walking round with a massive water bottle because I had bad skin so always tried to stay hydrated. Then one day it just started smelling and tasting like actual poo Confused I find it really hard to drink now

JaneyGotAGun · 04/02/2021 23:57

I’m the only person I know who gets diarrhoea as a reaction to nerves, excitement or adrenalin

This happens to me too! I've never told anyone in RL as seems such a strange reaction. I think it's to do with your fight or flight response (although I dont think it's much help in an emergency to have diarrhoea!)

Shamoo · 05/02/2021 00:10

I’m the only person I know who gets diarrhoea as a reaction to nerves, excitement or adrenalin

And me! Although not excitement, but nerves, adrenalin, upset (and period). My mum too. Not ideal!

Cowgran · 05/02/2021 00:10

Yes to the hair in bum.
Didn't poo in any of my 3 labours but did wee during my second. Thought it was my waters finally breaking, but no, turned out is just been drinking too much water through labour 😆

MaddieElla · 05/02/2021 00:18

@peanutbuttermilkshake thank goodness there’s another weirdo Grin

I also get the diarrhoea when nervous. I run a lot of races and I spend most of my time in the toilet beforehand. People think I mean for nervous wees. Nope, I’m shitting for England. Sad Then when I get running I’m absolutely fine!

The shame

ComeONBridget · 05/02/2021 00:20

@ILoveAnOwl

Sometimes I remember an event from the past and I physically inhale with the shame of it. Nothing bad, just mortifying things where I was a knob. They bring me physical pain.
Yep. Me too! Blush
ComeONBridget · 05/02/2021 00:22

@Baublebox

Does anyone elses vagina store up bath water and then release it at some time after you have gotten out of the bath (usually just after you have put clean pyjamas on)? Or do I just have a massive fanny?
Omg yes. What is that....!!!!!
nutmegsteddytoes · 05/02/2021 00:24

When I apply mascara,my head does an involuntary twitch/shake for a split second-I first noticed it in my 20's and was worried I had the start of Parkinson's
If I'm super nervous on a date ,and I'm trying to have a sip of bubbles so focussing on the glass,the same thing happens-sooo embarrassing

SignOnTheWindow · 05/02/2021 00:28

To all the pp thinking they were the only ones to get diarrhoea when nervous: don't feel weird - where do you think the phrase 'to shit oneself' comes from?!

Dislocatedeyeballs · 05/02/2021 00:30

Great thread yes and no to lots of these.. Just want to ask when you feel the urge to push in labour what do u feel like pushing? Iitsrally only felt the urge to poo not push anything else is that actually what it is so u just try and push out a big poo or is it a different sort of urge to push?

Crazy8 · 05/02/2021 01:19

If I lie flat on a hard surface I have the most weird feeling in my body. It last a few seconds. Almost like the blood has to balance out. I’m not explaining it well but it’s a massive body tingle.

TaraR2020 · 05/02/2021 02:46

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria

Mine come out of stretch marks. Nice.

Sebaceous filaments?
Imworthit · 05/02/2021 02:59

@LouNatics

I have never fished hair out of my bum crack and I wear mine long. So it can’t be universal.

I always want to know where and how exactly you are supposed to cut your nails. I mean surely wherever you do it, they fly off everywhere. Do people do it in the bathroom? In their bedroom? Do you go hunting for nail pieces after or sweep or vac after? Do you do it in the bath? Over the loo? It’s so grim to find nail pieces but there never seems to be a sensible pace to do it...

My partner does it into a plastic bag (nail clipping) I’d never thought of that. Seems to work.
BritInAus · 05/02/2021 03:00

@iamthedanger

When I have a pedicure (those were the days) I always get this really strong, twitchy urge to kick the beautician in the chin (I never have BTW!)
OMG this made me howl!!! Thank you

I actually do understand where you're coming from. Once my ex MIL (who I had a great relationship with) was drinking a hot chocolate with whipped cream on top. I was overcome with an urge to push her head into it so she got cream all over her face.
