My husband received something very strange in the post ...

OnSilverStars · 12/01/2021 11:05

In the post today, my husband received a letter. It was hand written with his name and address on the outside. No return info. The writing in the envelope is definitely a woman's

Inside is a copy of an "essay" I googled it and it's by Robert Louise Stevenson. It called "on Marriage"

The gist of it is that marriage has lots of ups and downs and requires communication

There is nothing else. No name, just a folded print out of this essay.

Any explanation, other than my fear? I have no reason other than this to suspect anything.

YABU - don't jump to conclusions

YANBU - he's cheated.

I'm shaking. This feels so surreal. I hope I'm overreacting. He's currently at work.

Ps. We open each other's post. We think nothing of it - usually. It's always junk or bills

First, if you routinely open each other's mail, he would have told a...um...liaison NOT to send written matierals...cards, letters, etc...to your home.

Second, it seems to be geared towards making a marriage better, not getting out of it. Funny thing for a mistress to send, no?

Have you by any chance confided in a friend about a lack of communication in your marriage? Could this possibly be an ill-advised attempt to help ^you*?

Furries · 14/01/2021 04:12

@AdobeWanKenobi

It's not fucking difficult is it?
@Mamanyt - please see above. Handy tip. Saves you reading all the replies. You can read the OP’s posts and find out it was all resolved over 24 hours ago. Not being mean, if you’re fairly new you might not know this handy tip. If you’re not new, it’s really annoying when a thread is almost at the end and people respond to the very first post without thinking it might have moved on slightly!
Furries · 14/01/2021 04:15

@Mamanyt - sorry, phot9 in quoted post above didn’t work! What it showed was - on the original post, there is a “see all” link at bottom of the post. If you click on that, it will filter out all the replies and only show you the posts from the OP. A handy way of reading through any updates they might give.

Thank you! I am, indeed, new. I'll remember this!

Mamanyt · 14/01/2021 05:24

@OnSilverStars

The people still guessing. I honestly don't know if their winding me up or not 😂😂😂
Well, some of us are quite new, and missed the "See All" button at the bottom of the initial post! Shan't make that mistake again! Although my reasoning still stands.
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 14/01/2021 06:15

It's from the JW's - I got one last week.

It's easy to tell that it's a woman's writing.

Given the content, maybe she knows him & knows you open his mail - maybe she wants to cause trouble so she can 'move in on him'?!

Anyway, it's controlling & illegal to open someone else's mail, you should be ashamed of yourself

WizardHowl · 14/01/2021 06:19

Well, this has been an amazing journey!!
The thread that just kept on giving...Grin

Why would the JW's send you an eye test?
Literallynoidea · 14/01/2021 06:23

Well said @Spacecadet58

I get so tired of people looking for racism where it doesn't exist. Grow up.

Confused not if they give you permission FFS, or do you think PAs and secretaries across the land breaking the law? Do you think the PM opens every letter addressed to him??

People are very weird about post. It is fine for couples to agree to open each other's. It is fine for couples to stick to opening their own.

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 14/01/2021 08:20

@MNHQ I nominate this for classics.

I really hope the recent posts still guessing and speculating are windups! If not, once again RTFT people!!!

Good point,maybe all the armchairs lawyers should log that with 101,we need to stamp out law breaking in high office

Also all those poor men under the coercive control of their letter opening partners, scope for an MN campaign methinks.

@OnSilverStars

Thanks so everyone who enjoyed the post.

We actually are lovely people. We don't fight or sulk with each other or betray each other in even little ways so I don't know why I was such a psycho yesterday.

I'm on maternity leave with a new baby and I think my husband going out in the world when I'm at home, all day, everyday with my DCs has made me nuts Confused

I have been chuckling regularly about this. And my god. I can't believe some of these women on here could even read their phone screen from their high fucking horse 😂

🤣 yes quite!
Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 14/01/2021 08:54

@OnSilverStars

This was the font difference! Not that much 🙈

Love it how some people are still arguing that I should open my husbands mail. 😂 good old mums net, eh?!

Sorry, bit late catching up - my own eyes are so bad I really can't see the difference in font sizes, but thank you for posting that photo, @OnSilverStars Grin

But even if you’re new @Mamanyt - surely it’s still obvious that a super long thread will have moved on from what was presented in the OP....?!

Toomuchtrouble4me · 14/01/2021 09:22

@emilyfrost

If you’re so open with each other that you’re invading his privacy by opening his post then just ask him, either via text, call or wait till he gets home.

And you have no idea it’s a woman’s handwriting.

Bitch

Op I can see why you wouldn’t want to have this kind of discussion over the phone whilst he’s at work. Too emotional - also I think there is a difference between male and female handwriting, even evident in children from years 3/4.
Is there any kind of postmark?

LaMarschallin · 14/01/2021 09:29

The "woman's writing" thing has made this keep going around in my mind:

Anyone else losing the will to live?

BrassyLocks · 14/01/2021 09:34

@Crazybirdlady

It refers to us barbarians in Ireland, outside of Dublin which was once known as the Pale.
So if something is beyond the pale, it was outrageous, uncivilised. Something you would expect from Irish Catholics.

Ok, here's my tangent to a tangent (sorry, can't resist!). The term 'barbarian' is offensive as it refers to 'others', typically the Berbers of North Africa thought to be uncivilised, hence Barbary Coast, Barbary pirates, etc.

(p.s. I never knew the origins of 'beyond the pale'. Very interesting.)

RandomMess · 14/01/2021 09:36

Just caught up that is HILARIOUS 😂

LadyEloise · 14/01/2021 09:44

Gosh ! You have very strange eye tests in the UK.
You can drive to a castle, way beyond the distance permitted because of a pandemic in your country or get very strange letters in the post to read.

Here in Ireland we go to an opticians/ Specsavers.

CheviotEwe · 14/01/2021 10:03

I've read the fucking thread, but not commented; I just want to point out for those posters on the iOS app that it's easy to filter the OP's posts. I've attached screenshots.

I'm glad you had a happy conclusion to this, OP Smile
