My husband received something very strange in the post ...

In the post today, my husband received a letter. It was hand written with his name and address on the outside. No return info. The writing in the envelope is definitely a woman's

Inside is a copy of an "essay" I googled it and it's by Robert Louise Stevenson. It called "on Marriage"

The gist of it is that marriage has lots of ups and downs and requires communication

There is nothing else. No name, just a folded print out of this essay.

Any explanation, other than my fear? I have no reason other than this to suspect anything.

YABU - don't jump to conclusions

YANBU - he's cheated.

I'm shaking. This feels so surreal. I hope I'm overreacting. He's currently at work.

Ps. We open each other's post. We think nothing of it - usually. It's always junk or bills

Really pleased it all turned out well.
Nice too see posters who called out some one (who always seemed more likely to be innocent) as definately being a cheater on no evidence, have been outed
I too open correspondance, although to be fair they are most bills and statements. I dont open letters rhat are personal, because they are usually just birthday cards and we all deserve to open those for ourselves.
My only worry, , that despite all the nice things you said about your DH and your relationship, about the trust you have , your thoughts lept to cheating. Honestly I would not have made this connection if I was in your position.
I know you said you both laughed and joked about it (and well done for telling him) but I would reallly have been pissed if I was your DH

@Catrin70

I am mildly anxious about the virus, not particularly for myself but not my parter 79 this October I'm 77 next and because I have a range of health problems. my husband does everything, shopping, cooking, cleaning etc. We have 2 adult sons with their own families,so we have 5 grandchildren who we both adore. We are waiting our vaccinations. HOW are others doing?
I know you've posted on this thread by mistake but what a relief from the idiots who think that in getting on for 900 posts there suggestion that it might be the JW is somehow adding something to the thread.

At least it will be full soon and won't keep popping up to annoy Grin

AdobeWanKenobi · 13/01/2021 22:29

@tommyhoundmum

AdobeWanKenobe

The middle part describes you perfectly

Thanks Grin

Shame the middle part of your name didn’t go some way to describing you as a decent hound might have sniffed out that they were replying to something that was solved the day before Wink

shhsecretsquirrel · 13/01/2021 22:30

Surely this is the first classic of the year? For the original content sure, but also for the classic MN missing of the point.

JustAPassingFashion · 13/01/2021 22:32

Op, I've been thinking about this since yesterday so popped back for an update.

You did not disappoint Grin

You're certain the eye test isn't carried out by a JW though, yes?

HairyBobble · 13/01/2021 22:34

So was the cheque actually cancelled??? ;)

shhsecretsquirrel · 13/01/2021 22:34

To be honest, I am wondering if the OP sent the letter herself - how else could she identify the writing as "girly"

hashbrownsandwich · 13/01/2021 22:37

My husband and aunt received a hand written letter which was similar. It was Jehovah witness. Apparently now they can't door knock they are writing instead.

ConfusedcomMum · 13/01/2021 22:38

🤦🏻‍♀️

Im so glad you mentioned this.

Nobody else has.

ConfusedcomMum · 13/01/2021 22:39

This thread needs to be in 'Classics'

Bloody hell. Really?
thebestnamehere · 13/01/2021 23:05

Remember the newspaper cut outs with a diet?? Addressed to women with a handwritten note saying 'It worked for me!'

These were sent to women all over the UK - it was from a diet company but made to look like a friend had sent it to you

Localocal · 13/01/2021 23:46

First of all, of course some women's handwriting looks identifiably like a woman's handwriting. It's called "enculturation" and acknowledging that it exists does not make you less of a feminist. I don't know why people are being assholes about this. Not all women have stereotypical handwriting (I don't, though I longed to be able to write a beautiful feminine hand as a girl.) But a lot obviously do or there wouldn't be a stereotype.

I hope it's JWs. I suggest contacting your nearest church and asking if they send unsolicited handwritten letters. And if they do maybe point out that they could wreck a marriage that way.

Spacecadet58 · 13/01/2021 23:57

Since when has ‘beyond the pale’ been racist. It refers back to the 17C in Ireland. Basically now means something is unacceptable. It’s still in pretty common usage and I’ve yet to hear anyone complain it’s racist. Get over yourself, don’t look for racism where it doesn’t exist.

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH
Sorry, had to laugh at this. Couldn’t believe it when I came back to the thread and saw another 7 pages. Got to your post and burst out laughing. Obviously, I haven’t read the rest of the thread yet, but this is how I feel before carrying on to the end!

What a staggeringly good idea! Contact the local JWs. Bet they tell her it wasn't them. Just a hunch.
NoProblem123 · 14/01/2021 00:45

I’ve contacted them.

It wasn’t them.

And they’ll do you for libel if this carries on.

I got my handwritten letter from JW today. If I hadn't seen this thread I'd be very confused - turns out I've been waiting for it.

2nd class post. Simon has delightful handwriting.

Rubybluesy · 14/01/2021 01:14

Ask him??

Rubybluesy · 14/01/2021 01:20

Cancel the cheque to the JWs now!

thisyearsuckssofar · 14/01/2021 01:44

I read the op and went straight to all of her comments because I had to know the outcome. It's fair cheered me up. I wish I could have seen their confused faces haha!

AngelicPP · 14/01/2021 03:21

This was such a mysterious/suspenseful/weird/funny/repetitive/intriguing/repetitive/frustrating/hilarious/repetitive/suspicious/long/repetitive/mainly off topic/irritatingly skim-read by most MNrs!/repetitive/silly thread and it was highly amusing to me!! Grin Especially the stupid little rages some were having about post 😆 and handwriting ✍🏻 and even ageism 👵🏻👴🏻...to top it all off the advice still being dished out way after the whole mystery had been solved!!! 🤦🏻
It's been fun!! Thanks for the giggles!!! 🤓

Sinful8 · 14/01/2021 03:47

@Happyone8

Why the insults at the posters who were just trying to help you Confused It could have as likely been dodgy as not . Not particularly grateful ..
Reeealy?

As likely?

This is likley behaviour in an affair?

Sinful8 · 14/01/2021 03:49

@notacooldad

I'm loving all the side debate! Can you tell gender by handwriting? Are you being controlled if your spouse opens your mail even though you've agreed? In fact are you lazy if you let them! 🤔 Is a certain everyday phrase racist? What fun thread!
Is everyone's response to a text from thier partner saying

"Theres a letter arrived for you "

"Whats it say?"

As opposed to

"Don't you dare open it its illegal!!!!!"
