My husband received something very strange in the post ...

In the post today, my husband received a letter. It was hand written with his name and address on the outside. No return info. The writing in the envelope is definitely a woman's

Inside is a copy of an "essay" I googled it and it's by Robert Louise Stevenson. It called "on Marriage"

The gist of it is that marriage has lots of ups and downs and requires communication

There is nothing else. No name, just a folded print out of this essay.

Any explanation, other than my fear? I have no reason other than this to suspect anything.

YABU - don't jump to conclusions

YANBU - he's cheated.

I'm shaking. This feels so surreal. I hope I'm overreacting. He's currently at work.

Ps. We open each other's post. We think nothing of it - usually. It's always junk or bills

@Mumgonenuts2020

I have had a look on google and he sounds like an American poet Robert Louis Stevenson, looks like marriage prayers rather than a essay!!

The previous person that suggested Jehovah witnesses maybe right...

They weren't. If you read the thread you can find out...
Shirleysascot · 13/01/2021 17:48

I think you both sound lovely. This is the first time I’ve been inclined to reply on MN btw. But I thought you should know that. All the best x

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 13/01/2021 17:50

Ha! Ha! Please read the thread. Even the last page of the thread. Somebody sent him a sight test through the post ti check his eye sight. No jw's, mistresses or stalkers. Just a dish woman thinking people could mind read!

tothesea · 13/01/2021 17:50

American poet????

CecilyP · 13/01/2021 17:53

I hope you didn't message him and waited until he came home to ask him about the letter face to face. Naturaly I'm wondering about the outcome.

Wonder no more. If you go to the opening post, click on to 'see all' at the bottom you will be able to see the outcome. And that goes for all the 'helpful' posters making their suggestions 24 hours to late!

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 13/01/2021 17:53

Also being a teacher of adults you can mainly tell the difference between male and female's writing (abs usually their age!!)
Also I open my husbands post. It's what some married couples do! I don't think he's reported me yet as it saves him a job!!

CecilyP · 13/01/2021 17:56

There's an American poet with the exact same name as the Scottish novelist? Who knew????

terrimom · 13/01/2021 17:59

A thousand apologies to all who were forced to endure the torture of reading my response (and the responses of all the others who didn't read the thread before responding) before I read that it was an eye test sent from work. Sorry!

ferneytorro · 13/01/2021 18:00

Feel a bit bad now for not posting yesterday because, as soon as I saw the photo I thought to myself that's the text they give you at the opticians when they slot the lenses in those funny glasses and ask you to read.........

jigglybits · 13/01/2021 18:00

As an ex JW, I guess that they would leave contact details for the church/website and or the passage on marriage would be from the bible.

winniestone37 · 13/01/2021 18:03

I think you can tell make/female handwriting other then that nothing too useful to say. Talk to him though and note his first reaction.

winniestone37 · 13/01/2021 18:04

Oh just read an eye test 😅

FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2021 18:04

Best twist on a thread for tonks!

FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2021 18:05

Yonks. Thanks autocorrect.

I'm just here to find out his reaction to being asked.

anwensmummy · 13/01/2021 18:15

Could be JWs. My friend and I used to be teachers at the same school. My friend got pregnant and when she announced her upcoming mat leave at work, a student who was a JW left a handwritten letter and a JW leaflet about unmarried mothers on her desk. (The students all knew she wasn’t married and we know which student it was because she was very open about it, she felt she had given a great gift)

Are you familiar with the see the OPs posts function?

This all happened yesterday, it's super easy to find out his reaction was Grin

C0NNIE · 13/01/2021 18:16

@Houggbfhhbdfg

I think someone who knows he’s having affair has sent it.. sorry 🙈 x
I agree.
mumsy27 · 13/01/2021 18:16

First of all, I'm so glad you've put faith in your husband and admiring the trust and happy marriage you have.
Only you, would know your husband and can suss the truth.
I understand if for little while you SUSPECTED cheating and to those suggested that.
However, to those they were adament that the husband cheated, shame on you.
I trust my partner, we open each others letters.
We have access to each other emails, bank accounts, phones...money, everything.
We work as one unit, we don't split cost in the middle, as we contribute to our union differently.

Erm... maybe because it's a long thread and people haven't got time to sit and read through all 30 pages of it? Hmm

Seriously1996 · 13/01/2021 18:21

Is it one of those chain letters you are suppose to send to so many people for good luck ?

glammymommy · 13/01/2021 18:22

I'd say it's JW. They do that. Lots of my family in the US have had them.
