My husband received something very strange in the post ...

In the post today, my husband received a letter. It was hand written with his name and address on the outside. No return info. The writing in the envelope is definitely a woman's

Inside is a copy of an "essay" I googled it and it's by Robert Louise Stevenson. It called "on Marriage"

The gist of it is that marriage has lots of ups and downs and requires communication

There is nothing else. No name, just a folded print out of this essay.

Any explanation, other than my fear? I have no reason other than this to suspect anything.

YABU - don't jump to conclusions

YANBU - he's cheated.

I'm shaking. This feels so surreal. I hope I'm overreacting. He's currently at work.

Ps. We open each other's post. We think nothing of it - usually. It's always junk or bills

my daughter received a handwritten letter from the JW's and she was absolutely furious with the contents as the letter was so personal.

she wrote a complaint letter back to them and hasn't had anything since.

AdobeWanKenobi · 13/01/2021 17:21

@Rtruth

Ask him???

That’s good communication and maybe the truth will come out

Reading the thread is even better....

The truth is out there....

Be careful - this could be a potential stalker. A friend of mine had a similar incident and it was part of a stalking campaign. If your husband doesn't know what it's about then keep the letter in case other strange things start to happen and you need to escalate it to the police.

It may well be someone who knows you (maybe a neighbour) who is just trying to cause trouble or has issues.

Finally , it could just be an accident and the post came to the wrong address.

Or you could read the thread.

If it was a mistress sending a message... wouldn’t it be addressed to you?

Dilovescake21 · 13/01/2021 17:29

I've just googled letters from JW and this is quite common - especially when they cannot go door to door. Obviously that's a problem for them when there's a pandemic! I they sent one to my chid/family I'd hit the roof- it's creepy and intrusive.

Raynasmum2015 · 13/01/2021 17:31

YANBU because it does seem a bit odd. But that doesn't necessarily mean he's cheated. Its unlikely the hypothetical "other woman" would be giving him marriage advice. Going by what other posters have said it could well be from JW or a local church. It's also unlikely your DH would be so comfortable with you opening his post if anything untoward was going on. I would talk to him about it, its probably nothing Smile
(BTW I can usually tell a woman's handwriting as well Grin )

Floomobal · 13/01/2021 17:32

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

DENGREEN · 13/01/2021 17:33

YANBU. I suspect he is cheating. Tread carefully. Good luck x

marioncr · 13/01/2021 17:35

I have also received a handwritten envelope and letter from the JW’s so it could be them

Ha ha, bloody love your name too @AdobeWanKenobi

claremmm · 13/01/2021 17:35

Jehovah’s that lived in the flat next door to me started posting me highlighted bible texts when my boyfriend came to stay for the weekend 😂

marioncr · 13/01/2021 17:37

I have had a handwritten letter and envelope from JW just before Christmas

THIS. THIS. THIS.

Why on earth would the OP want any "advice" from people who are too fucking lazy to read the updates.

terrimom · 13/01/2021 17:40

I also received a hand written letter from a Jehovah's witness. I actually know the girl as she lives in my neighborhood and we have conversed in person over the years. They are encouraged to send letter to reach out during covid as they are unable to go door to door right now. Could be that. I wouldn't read too much into this unless you have other suspicions. Talk to him tonight and ask.

tommyhoundmum · 13/01/2021 17:41

I hope you didn't message him and waited until he came home to ask him about the letter face to face. Naturaly I'm wondering about the outcome.

I hope you waited until he reached home before asking him about the letter. It's neither YABU or YANBU. It's you deserve an answer to you concerns. Good luck.

ruki79 · 13/01/2021 17:42

I wouldn't jump to to conclusions yet. If he was young anything behind your back with somebody else the last thing he would have done is given ' the other woman' his full home address inc postcode! Honesty is always the best policy. Sit him down and ask him what the letter is about.

UpShutTheFuck · 13/01/2021 17:42

YANBU. I suspect he is cheating. Tread carefully. Good luck x
I think you meant "read carefully"

Why do people do this????????
Did you not imagine for one second that the issue may have been resolved in over 700 posts.

The OP doesn't need luck, it's sorted.
And no, it wasn't cheating so your suspicions are just wrong.

Glad you solved the mystery 😂 That’s a bit of excitement for the week x

pinkpantherpink · 13/01/2021 17:44

A happy ending to the story.

Weirdest concept of any eye test I've ever seen though. How bizarre!

I was relatively certain it would be from a JW but they usually live nearby and are unlike know his name!

Mumgonenuts2020 · 13/01/2021 17:46

I have had a look on google and he sounds like an American poet Robert Louis Stevenson, looks like marriage prayers rather than a essay!!

The previous person that suggested Jehovah witnesses maybe right...

Frazzledstar1 · 13/01/2021 17:46

This has made me chuckle what a random thing for the company to do Grin

Can’t believe how many people are crowing on about you opening DHs post - he’s obviously OK with it and that’s all that matters!
