My husband received something very strange in the post ...

In the post today, my husband received a letter. It was hand written with his name and address on the outside. No return info. The writing in the envelope is definitely a woman's

Inside is a copy of an "essay" I googled it and it's by Robert Louise Stevenson. It called "on Marriage"

The gist of it is that marriage has lots of ups and downs and requires communication

There is nothing else. No name, just a folded print out of this essay.

Any explanation, other than my fear? I have no reason other than this to suspect anything.

YABU - don't jump to conclusions

YANBU - he's cheated.

I'm shaking. This feels so surreal. I hope I'm overreacting. He's currently at work.

Ps. We open each other's post. We think nothing of it - usually. It's always junk or bills

Or just the OPs pposts if you really can't be bothered.

Yeah OP has been a good sport keeping us all updated as the saga unfolded. No need to read all the other guff!

Tal45 · 13/01/2021 18:23

Definitely no chance of a sordid affair with someone in a religious cult then :-(

Ch3rish · 13/01/2021 18:24

@Raynasmum2015

Erm... maybe because it's a long thread and people haven't got time to sit and read through all 30 pages of it? Hmm
Why would you do that when you can just look at the OP's posts?
patchpatch20 · 13/01/2021 18:24

The clue must be in the essay

BloggersBlog · 13/01/2021 18:26

Quite ironic how it turned out to be about an eye test when most of the last 2/3 pages have been posts from people who obviously CANT READ

LolaB123 · 13/01/2021 18:27

It is unusual. Have you been arguing a lot? If yes, maybe it’s from a concerned neighbour. If not, I’ve no idea. Let us know if you find out.

The clue must be in the essay
It's in the thread
Scotland32 · 13/01/2021 18:28

We got a random hand written Jehovah’s Witnesses letter last week but it included a printed leaflet...

CecilyP · 13/01/2021 18:28

The clue must be in the essay

No, Miss Marple, the content of the essay is totally irrelevant; it's the size of the typeface that matters!

BloggersBlog · 13/01/2021 18:29

@glammymommy

I'd say it's JW. They do that. Lots of my family in the US have had them.
Why would you say that? When OP has CLEARLY said who it was from
freezedriedromance · 13/01/2021 18:30

Can you just skip to the OPs updates on the app or is it desktop only? I can't do it on my app but people seem to get quite arsy when someone says they don't want to scroll through 30 pages.

BloggersBlog · 13/01/2021 18:30

Ah I get it - "it is from the JWs" is the new "cancel the cheque"

Birdcloud · 13/01/2021 18:32

I’ve reacently one of these letters from JV. It wasn’t until I was half way through it before I twigged. I felt quite flattered until I realised. It was a beautiful script so could well have been a woman’s hand.

mountains76 · 13/01/2021 18:34

Kind of ironic that a Jehovah's Witness letter intended to bolster a relationship could potentially wreck it!

Hmm
foodiefil · 13/01/2021 18:36

Pleased it wasn't anything sinister OP.

But omg all these people wasting their time complaining about you opening his post. Get a grip! And if you quoted the postal services act then you're the worst.

What a sad little life Jane...

Natty456 · 13/01/2021 18:37

Everyone jumping to conclusions. A letter could be someone jealous of you both or someone being stupid. If there was no trust why would he let you open his letters in the first place. How jealousy can ruin a relationship that’s my opinion

IwishIwasBrave · 13/01/2021 18:38

I got something similar, it might be a church fanatic, I wouldnt worry too much. I m sure is a neighbour jehova witness crap.

LemmysAceCard · 13/01/2021 18:42

I used to open my ex husbands post, I used to deal with all admin and bills, he wasn’t bothered. He opened my post if I was busy, we had nothing to hide, nothing malicious in it. Neither of us saw it as a big deal.

I don’t open DPs post as he didn’t want me to so I respect that.

praepondero · 13/01/2021 18:44

What sort of company would do something so utterly stupid? Why?
Why the fuck would anybody think 'I'll send a copy of an obscure text to an employee to test his/her eyesight'?
I mean, really?!
What is one supposed to DO with the fucking thing?
Read it out loud and make side-notes of fuzzy lines or somesuch?
Then report one's failing eyesight to HR? What?
Stupid.

WaltzesWithSnobs · 13/01/2021 18:48

Well I haven't bothered to read the full thread, just the first few from the OP but I think it's probably a jaeger eye test from your husbands workplace. They might need to have him complete an eye test every year or something like that. I'd say that's what it is 😉

HeckyPeck · 13/01/2021 18:49

🤣

I agree. It's really not hard to read the OPs posts.

Hey OP, have you considered it might be from the Jehovah Witnesses? And how very dare you assume the gender of the writer 😉😉

Glad it all worked out ok!

Yes, we do need to know this. An optician would ask you the smallest print you can read comfortably, but, in their absence, what is one supposed to do. And having done whatever it is, who would you get back to with the info if they have left no contact. Definitely need a further update from OP on this!
