To say no to visiting pigs for Christmas??

PigAuntie · 29/11/2019 18:02

My sister wants to buy my niece and nephew micro pigs for Christmas. They are coming to stay with us for Christmas so she wants to know if she can bring them with her!!!
AIBU to say no because

  • we don’t want pigs running around our house partly due to we have no idea (and neither does she) if They will be chewers/poo everywhere/cry all night plus they are tiny and will be at danger of being stood on
  • we have a 3 bed semi, with 9 people, Xmas tree, extra chairs etc it’s already going to be crowded enough and we don’t have the space to put a pig pen anywhere - the conversatory is already taken over by the guinea pigs cage. (C&C open type)
  • I don’t agree with animals being given as Christmas presents as Christmas is busy and chaotic and full of noise and lights and wrapping paper and choas. I believe a new pet needs to be introduced to a family in a calm and serene environment where they can get used to each other and the animal can retreat to a safe place when they need too
  • I also don’t think any animal should go an3 hour journey unless absolutely necessary or they have got used to car journeys
  • you need a permit to move pigs to another premises and I think are them not allowed to move them again for 20 days!!!
  • Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I don’t want it overshadowed by pigs!
  • we will all be drinking (as is the nature of Xmas day) so I don’t think we should be in charge of tiny piglets when no one knows exactly what they are doing with them.

On a positive note I have found out that DH is the perfect mumsnetter husband, his response was ‘fuck no, that’s all you need to say, just no, don’t need to justify it, we say no that’s it!! So I’m happy to loan him to help people with CF’s!!!

Show her this

Lots of legislation that must be complied with to own and keep pet pigs micro or otherwise , best she finds out a bit more first !

spanglydangly there’s a reason people race piglets and not lambs, those wee shits are really bloody fast!

draughtycatflap · 29/11/2019 21:52

Superglue some ears and a snout to your ignorant sister and repeatedly kick her up the arse so she squeals like a piggy for her children's Christmas entertainment.

FizzyIce · 29/11/2019 21:52

Your sister is quite clearly a fucking idiot

Ellie56 · 29/11/2019 22:03

This is hilarious. Are you sure she's not winding you up OP? Grin

Ellie56 · 29/11/2019 22:05

Oh and, "Fuck no!" is the perfect response. Grin

thenightsky · 29/11/2019 22:09

Totally missing the point but how is she going to get the pigs to yours without the kids noticing?

More importantly, how is she going to get the pigs to yours without DEFRA noticing?

PerkingFaintly · 29/11/2019 22:10

This is so marvellously bonkers that if you weren't a name I recognised, I'd be wondering if you were for real, PigAuntie.Grin

How, how is any human being having to make out a reasoned, bullet-point list to argue the case not to have ACTUAL PIGLETS running round their living room for Christmas?Grin

This is just magnificent!Grin

(Sorry, OP, I do feel for you really. And for the piglets, who I hope do NOT get bought. But Grin. I mean, Grin)

HuggedTheRedwoods · 29/11/2019 22:12

Pigs with an inexperienced owner in a rented house with a small paved yard... This wont end well and makes me so sad to read. Poor pigs.

ewemum · 29/11/2019 22:14

Will need holding no.s and a movement licence to transport. Will not stay small. House pet pigs suffer a lot of gastric upsets. I hope she doesn't get them.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 29/11/2019 22:24

There is no such thing as "micro pigs" they grow and eat and eat you out of home!

joystir59 · 29/11/2019 22:24

Pigs need a big field to live in with a pig arc for shelter. They are not suitable as indoor domesticated pets.

RoseGoldEagle · 29/11/2019 22:29

Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I don’t want it overshadowed by pigs

This made me laugh! YADNBU, ‘fuck no’ is the right response.

Loveislandaddict · 29/11/2019 22:30

Saying No is fine!

I thought it was a typo when when I read your title, and presumed it was gp mis-typed (and auto-corrected to pigs!).

Seriously, who buys pigs for their children (unless they live on a farm), and th3n expects someone else to host them!

cdtaylornats · 29/11/2019 22:32

Next Christmas they could come for dinner Grin

MissMoan · 29/11/2019 22:39

You are not being unreasonable at all. Christmas can be stressful enough when you are catering to others. It's your home and any visitor should respect that. Micro Pigs may be cute from a distance, so why not keep them that way Wink

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 29/11/2019 22:42

@draughtycatflap has nailed it. Please do this. Grin

I really fancy some crackers with Brie and chilli jam now. I haven’t got any though.

PigAuntie · 29/11/2019 22:43

@Mumoftwoyoungkids and others who asked how she would get them here without the kids noticing - the kids will already be here as she is working the Monday and until lunchtime on Xmas eve so I offered to have the kids early - we are all going to longleat on the weekend so will bring my niece and nephew back with us then.

Hopefully I’ve cropped her name out properly so she doesn’t get hate mail - but this is one of the messages - I haven’t made this up! I’m not sure I have that much imagination to be honest!!

Her landlord won't agree and that should be the end of it.
Silly sausage sister

ddl1 · 29/11/2019 22:52

YADNBU! What an IDEA! It should be against the law to keep pigs if you don't have the right outdoor facilities for them, and certainly your sister is crazy to think that she has the right to demand that YOU house them!

thenightsky · 29/11/2019 22:58

Its a boy and a girl... well that's going to end well Hmm

ItsAlmostXmas · 29/11/2019 22:59

So she's buying different sexes........ she gets more & more crazy with each post!

Thank goodness pugs are so regulated she shouldn't be able to get one. Or are their unscrupulous pig farmers that don't abide by rules?

She needs to buy the kids cuddly toys, far more appropriate

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 29/11/2019 22:59

She thinks it's perfect to get a male and a female? She's planning to breed from them, isn't she? That's what I suspected- after all, if two piglets are cute, how much cuter would a bloody dozen of them be?
BTW, there is no way one earth that the larger pig in that photo is an adult male. Maybe it was bred from very early on, but it isn't fully grown at all.
Hopefully her landlord will put a stop to it.
