My first parking thread!

So, I'm off work on annual leave with DS. Just been out for the day and just got home to find that it's school run time. We live near a first school so obviously the streets are lined with cars. Someone has parked on my drive and someone else is blocking them in!
Now I imagine that as no one is ever here during the day, these people have been doing this for some time (we've only lived here 3 months and the house was emtpy for a year before that). I've squeezed in beside the car blocking the drive so they won't be able to get our (remember the scene from Friends with Ross's sports car?) and therefore the car on my drive can't escape either.
AIBU to just sit here with a cuppa and watch this all play out while pretending not to be in?

Not Morpeth no.
DH is home. He's such a spoil sport! He thinks we should just move and be done with it. Unfortunatley I do think that when they do come back we're just going to move . However, will post this on FB and let the school know for future!

Waiting with popcorn and ice cream till they come back! 😂

StoorieHoose · 15/06/2018 18:29

They had plenty of opportunities to knock the OPs door you know when they realised they were PARKED ON HER BLOODY DRIVEWAY!

Whereismumhiding2 · 15/06/2018 18:30

English legislation says that you can't damage their cars, incase you did do something I wouldn't recommend... cos they could claim. But they'd have to prove it (you feign innocence) and can you imagine? "M'lady/M'lord I parked on a stranger's driveway that I didn't know... and when I returned 3+ hours later it was scratched/damaged... No I didn't see it nor can prove the householder did it.."

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 15/06/2018 18:30

If they come and knock, and apologise, I would move. If not, then no. I would sit tight. You are parked legally. They need to apologise. For that note alone!!

StoorieHoose · 15/06/2018 18:30

“There are small children involved” ??? Won’t someone think of the children with the lazy arsed parents parking in and across the OPs driveway!!!

LookAtThatCritter · 15/06/2018 18:31

Popcorn ready!

TheMonkeyMummy · 15/06/2018 18:34

Grab some squirt cream and draw a big cock and balls on their windscreen.

mummmy2017 · 15/06/2018 18:34

Just pop out and give them 2 foot extra so they can get out.. put note on windscreen saydo not repeat.

Clutterbugsmum · 15/06/2018 18:34

I'm betting the whole street is fed up with the parents and their parking.

Lifeofa · 15/06/2018 18:35

If a child is involved they are learning if someone has something you need you are entitled just to take it. Most reasonable people would struggle to explain random parking to a child.

MadMags · 15/06/2018 18:35

Listen, your DH is being a wet blanket.

You CAN'T just move your car! Think of all that rage you'll feel, with no outlet.

You need to do at least SOMETHING!

howabout · 15/06/2018 18:36

My DH agrees with your DH, except he reckons going out and reading them the riot act on their return is in order. He thought my suggestion of a note on their windscreen was too PA. Tbf in similar circs I usually sit in my car with a face like thunder till the CF returns and they scuttle off never to return.

Whereismumhiding2 · 15/06/2018 18:37

@SharronNeedles
DH is being sensible! The inconvenience today of losing their cars for a few hours might be lesson enough. And shaming them via email and photos to headteacher at the school.

(But isn't it nice to know what you could do if you were mwahahaaaa...!?! )
If my (big)XH was home, he wouldn't think twice to have gone out and dressed them down!

user7469322 · 15/06/2018 18:37

OP, suggest you take detailed photos of the car on your drive so you can prove that any damage that may “appear” after the cars gone is not your fault and was already there.

siwel123 · 15/06/2018 18:37

Ooh it is fathers day this Sunday isn't it? How inconvient for them if they confuse the car for any planned trips Wink

MadMags · 15/06/2018 18:37

Get a big piece of paper, or stick loads of A4 sheets together and write "You park like a cunt" across it x2, obviously.

Stick it across both windscreens.

Then move back just enough to let them out.

billybagpuss · 15/06/2018 18:38

My DH would be that miserable too.

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 15/06/2018 18:38

Ltb - he has no balls!!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 15/06/2018 18:38

There's only one response to your last update:

LTB!!!!!

gabsdot · 15/06/2018 18:39

I'm going to go against the grain a bit.
You were dead right to block them in a leave them waiting but I think if I were you I would have gone out after the note arrived and confronted them. Told them off, refused to move, made them beg and then eventually I would have moved the car.
In your way they haven't been shamed enough.
Keep us updated though.

Clutterbugsmum · 15/06/2018 18:39

Tell your DH you will move YOUR car

A) when they knock and apologise for parking and blocking your drive

and or

B) when YOU next leave you need too, but until then YOUR car will be staying put.

C) my DH agrees with you/us leave your car where it is until they have the balls to speak to you.

LakieLady · 15/06/2018 18:40

My DH agrees with your DH

Bloody wusses. DP says he'd assume it was a gift from an anonymous admirer, and he'd advertise it on Gumtree - free to collector.

Groovee · 15/06/2018 18:40

Put a note on the green car in the firm of an invoice for parking on your drive.

Rocinante1 · 15/06/2018 18:41

If have wanted to confront them.would have gone put in a dressing gown with hair a bit wet and said "I was just stepping in the shower; I'm not moving the car dressed like this so you will need to wait until I'm sorted". Then I'd have hung around the house for an hour before going out to move. At least then you'd get to confront them, and make them stand around waiting. I couldn't have just stood there watching.
