My first parking thread!

So, I'm off work on annual leave with DS. Just been out for the day and just got home to find that it's school run time. We live near a first school so obviously the streets are lined with cars. Someone has parked on my drive and someone else is blocking them in!
Now I imagine that as no one is ever here during the day, these people have been doing this for some time (we've only lived here 3 months and the house was emtpy for a year before that). I've squeezed in beside the car blocking the drive so they won't be able to get our (remember the scene from Friends with Ross's sports car?) and therefore the car on my drive can't escape either.
AIBU to just sit here with a cuppa and watch this all play out while pretending not to be in?

devoncreamtea · 15/06/2018 18:09

Grin Grin fingers crossed....!

CourtneyLovely · 15/06/2018 18:10

Best. Parking thread. Ever.

angelnix · 15/06/2018 18:10

Under the cover of darkness, please swap pink and red car over, not only will it cause great humour to us, but they will be so annoyed with themselves for having the missed opportunity to escape!

The cheeky fuckers! I used to live near a school so I feel your pain.

Strawberry2017 · 15/06/2018 18:12

I love this! They are so cheeky!
I wouldn't dare park on someone's drive or blocking it! Who actually does that?
I love that your neighbour backed you up too.
The best bit is nobody will be on their side when they bitch about it because they are completely in the wrong!

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 15/06/2018 18:13

I dont understand the logic of going to someone’s door to put a rude note through it rather than just knocking and asking if they will move. They’re quite thick arent they? I mean, one option gets them their car released within minutes. The other has them walking home with no car! It’s a no brainier! Did they really plan to just stand and wait for note recipient to come out as commanded without them having to speak to them?

faeriequeen · 15/06/2018 18:13

Sorry - showing that I've never had to call the police there! Is it 101?

CoraPirbright · 15/06/2018 18:14

Utterly brilliant Grin

GoldenButtercup · 15/06/2018 18:14

Yep it's 101 👍

SneakyGremlins · 15/06/2018 18:16

Get two JCBs to block them in and move your car?

Scrumptiousbears · 15/06/2018 18:16

Because they are entitled fuckers!

ResistanceIsNecessary · 15/06/2018 18:17

I like Lisa's suggestion.

But whatever happens, do not move your car!!

Whereismumhiding2 · 15/06/2018 18:17

Omg . The cheek of them! They ought have knocked and been very apologetic.
They have both lost their cars this afternoon so hope they've learnt their lesson and are are genuinely sorry/promise not to do it again.

But if not....

You are parked legally in the road, so if they haven't knocked to apologise you could contact council to get them to tow or ticket car illegally parked across a dropped curb / blocking an occupied driveway. (council don't need to know it isn't your car in driveway!) that they are blocking in, due to house owners complaint. (But they can't do anything about (notyour)car on your drive, so defo don't mention!)
Ps Move your car on road a few feet back before council enforcers come if that arises.

Re: car in driveway... in England, you have to go to court to get it removed, takes ages, or you could pay to tow it onto road but can't leave it in way anywhere & if tow company damages it you are liable. You have little comeback ... So..

evil laugh My DC play in our front garden. We found out (accidentally) that if children have sunscreen (not quite soaked in) on their arms & lean against car (not hands -cos fingerprints! - I had glorious sunscreen opaque handprints on my newish car that are into paint sheen!) (or perhaps a rolled up tea towell with sunscreen on it like an arm shape), that stuff does not come off of paintwork easily... (Twas a t-cut rubbing effort to remove). I wouldn't really DO this (!!!) but would enjoy the thought that I could!! Equally with the pram or prang for wheelchairs going past a trespassing abandonned car etc.. (who is to say it happened on your drive, or even by you, they clearly have form for bad parking blocking access... La la laaah...)

But really you ought send photos and tell school that 2 selfish school parents parked IN YOUR drive & ACROSS IT and abandoned their cars for X hours and you are appalled. Shame them both!!

WaxOnFeckOff · 15/06/2018 18:19

Go out every day and move your car exactly one inch further away , eventually they'll realise there is enough room to move but be mystified as to where it came from....

Jaxhog · 15/06/2018 18:20

I have the popcorn ready.

Troels · 15/06/2018 18:21

When you fnally let them out you and the neighbour should follow them home, one car each. Then once you know where they live, go and park on their drive for the day, see how they like it. I hope both of them are having to explain to their partners why their cars are missing and why they can't attend some activity/night out/family do due to this.

Whereismumhiding2 · 15/06/2018 18:22

Really, I cannot imagine the cheek if someone parking in your drive and accross it. And then dropping a note in rather than knocking to apologise and promise flowers/wine/chocolate and never to do it again!!

lifeinthelastlane · 15/06/2018 18:22

I think they may have got the message by now, these threads do turn into a bit of a "burn the witch!" type thing after a while, and there are small children involved. They won't knock on OP's door to apologise as they believe she's on holiday, so what is meant to happen next exactly?

Cheeselover23 · 15/06/2018 18:25

Placemarking to see what happens next 😂

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 15/06/2018 18:25

Put a note on each car saying ‘please knock on number XX when you are ready to move!’

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 15/06/2018 18:26

I assume in the rude note "if you drive a xx xx, you're blocking me in! Please move" the xxxx car is yours, not the other cf parked over your dropped kerb?
Cos it seems both CFs are in cahoots?

Snappedandfarted2018 · 15/06/2018 18:27

🍿 another classic thread in the making

Perzactly.
