My first parking thread!

So, I'm off work on annual leave with DS. Just been out for the day and just got home to find that it's school run time. We live near a first school so obviously the streets are lined with cars. Someone has parked on my drive and someone else is blocking them in!
Now I imagine that as no one is ever here during the day, these people have been doing this for some time (we've only lived here 3 months and the house was emtpy for a year before that). I've squeezed in beside the car blocking the drive so they won't be able to get our (remember the scene from Friends with Ross's sports car?) and therefore the car on my drive can't escape either.
AIBU to just sit here with a cuppa and watch this all play out while pretending not to be in?

When they come back, don't be cheerful/amused and tell them it doesn't matter what they do in the week. Act pissed off (if your DH can back you up even better), tell them your work hours are now varied and you'd appreciate it if they didn't block you out of your own drive. Cheeky sods. I wonder if they started doing this after all the recent fuss in the tabloids about how the police don't take action against people who park on private drives?

Mumsnetters of the North East, it is your duty to PM the OP and offer her lifts for the next two weeks so she may leave her car in situ

I wouldn't answer my door all weekend. Hopefully your NDN will do the same.
And I would seriously consider using public transport to get to work on Monday.

TheMonkeyMummy · 15/06/2018 17:55

Didn't the press recently cover a school in Sunderland where the residents were furious because of all the CF and their CF parking antics?

ResistanceIsNecessary · 15/06/2018 17:56

The only thing better than a parking thread, is one which has lots of lovely updates

wombatron · 15/06/2018 17:56

Placemarking!

This could have gone a number of ways.... I'm glad it's this one!!!

Madwithjealousy · 15/06/2018 17:56

I'm angry on your behalf !

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 15/06/2018 17:57

I think I’d go the opposite way to some of the above suggestions. Absolutely do not move your car until they come knocking and actually ask you to move it. And then act utterly incredulous ‘you waited how long to come and ask? I just assumed you would be knocking to apologise and politely ask me to move my car a few minutes later... did you really walk home rather than simply come and have a polite conversation with me?!’

SneakyGremlins · 15/06/2018 17:57

Do you reckon Op's DH is home yet?

faeriequeen · 15/06/2018 17:57

Call 111 and get them towed :)

JobHunting4 · 15/06/2018 18:00

I’m northumberland, need a lift op?

BeyondThePage · 15/06/2018 18:00

swap your and neighbour's cars round.

And yes - wait for an apology.

Nanasueathome · 15/06/2018 18:00

Why would you call NHS Direct to get them towed?

Scrumptiousbears · 15/06/2018 18:01

I should be bathing the kids but this thread is much more interesting.

GoldenButtercup · 15/06/2018 18:02

Call 111 and get them towed
Is that something the NHS does now? Hmm

ohfourfoxache · 15/06/2018 18:04

Cheeky fucking gits Shock

PLEASE can you not use your car for 2 weeks? I’m sure we could crowdfund for taxis!

devoncreamtea · 15/06/2018 18:05

Wonder if any of them have got home and logged onto MN? Grin

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 15/06/2018 18:05

Parking on/across someone’s drive is extremely cunty but the actual maddening part of this is the fact that they’d rather put notes through the whole street’s doors than just knock and sheepishly ask you to please move.

I know they don’t know for certain that it’s your car but it would not be unreasonable to assume that it might be, and since they’ve knowingly parked on your drive that should surely be the first place they ask.

The fact that they’d rather stand in the street yelling about police, put notes through all the doors and then storm off home rather than have a slightly awkward conversation is hilarious to me.

MadMags · 15/06/2018 18:06

Oh God yes! Swap yours and neighbours car!

Stephisaur · 15/06/2018 18:06

@devoncreamtea “somebody blocked my car in on the school run with their pink car. AIBU to call the police” 😂😂
