I swear I spent the majority of my English lessons in school for 12 years doing reading comprehension i.e reading the paragraph fully and then answering questions based solely on information gleaned by fully comprehending said paragraph - excellent preparation for MN if not for actual real life literacy.

I agree - my DD2 is 8, at a super selective school, drinks alcohol, makes 8 course meals and revises for all her exams with no help from me using the 9000 study guides that I consider appropriately challenging because I have an Oxbridge degree and her teachers are all dreadful.
