How to feel like you're on holiday when you're not?

I'm really craving a week (or several) in the sun but have no plans for holidays this year. How can I recreate that holiday feeling at home?

Afternoon drinking Grin

AlpacaPicnic · 24/03/2017 15:19

No cooking... takeaways, eating out for lunch, afternoon spent in a nice beer garden with nibbles from the bar. Things really should be deep fried.

SorrelSoup · 24/03/2017 15:21

Get some coconut smelling moisturier: instant holiday!

bignamechangeroonie · 24/03/2017 15:21

A big Yay to afternoon drinking Grin

All food ordered in. Buy a cheap, second hand hot tub - should be able to get one for £150 on eBay. Pile of books/magazines. Go on PROPER days out, get a megabus somewhere. Splash out on one night by your nearest seaside and eat fish and chips on the pier, stay in a B and B.

Wear a bikini and sit in the garden. Have a barbecue.

profpoopsnagle · 24/03/2017 15:23

Buy a bag of sand and place little bits everywhere you can think of. Tip some in your shoes, spread it all over your bath towel, sprinkle in your hair. Grin

Go to Aldi in your Bikini and flip flops?

Then just buy Manchego cheese and chorizo.

ShatnersBassoon · 24/03/2017 15:41

Daytime drinking, eating out every night, wear new white trainers and go and have a pint at the airport at 6am.

everythingburrito · 24/03/2017 15:44

Look up how to make your fave holiday cocktail, get the ingredients and then ask your DH or DC to keep 'em coming Grin

trulybadlydeeply · 24/03/2017 15:45

Get to the point where you want to divorce your DH, have your DC adopted, and can't wait to be back at work, then you'll feel like you've had a week away Grin

Afternoon drinking

😂😂😂

Abitcomplex · 24/03/2017 15:59

Have a pedicure and manicure, paint your toenails/fingernails a bright pink colour and wear sandals. With clothes obviously...

Dementedswan · 24/03/2017 16:01

Think I want to be on holiday now. Afternoon drinking? Fab idea. Would it be frowned upon if I took kids to pub on my own?

Bluntness100 · 24/03/2017 16:06

Oh I was thinking the afternoon drinking was more run a bath, pretend it's a pool, then lie down next to it with either a beer or a cocktail, at 11 am though (so maybe it's not "afternoon" drinking...Hmm )

You could even bribe a child if you have one to swoosh the water round and make wave noises if you fancied a more seaside scene. Wear your bikini and put sun tan lotion on too, before lying on your beach towel to drink your beer/cocktail.

Bluntness100 · 24/03/2017 16:06

I may be over invested in this idea.😂😂😂

tessiebear4 · 24/03/2017 16:07

Get food poisoning

Abitcomplex · 24/03/2017 16:09

Also, download an app with ocean sounds on, I have one with big waves crashing, birds etc. And close your eyes listening to it.
Buy some mojito in.

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/03/2017 16:11

Go round your home town taking photos and carrying a phrase book

yoohooitsme · 24/03/2017 16:14

Cram all you favourite clothes in a suitcase with a leaky bottle of shampoo and then wear at random.

RebelandaStunner · 24/03/2017 16:14

Paint half of you arms and face bright red.

qualityjaisket · 24/03/2017 17:02

I love all of these Grin

Just spend the week wearing two pairs of knickers, wash them in the bathroom sink each night, preferably with a tiny bar of over perfumed soap then drape to dry on the back of a white plastic patio chair in the garden.

BellyBean · 24/03/2017 17:38

Just done this all week. Dropping DD at nursery so we can actually get a break! Went to the Cotswolds for the day one day, cinema, lunch. Bacon bagels most mornings, and lazy lie ins with the paper.

May not have felt like a week in the sun, but lovely none the less.

ShatnersBassoon · 24/03/2017 18:03

Whatever you choose to do, wear a hat that you wouldn't ordinarily be seen dead in.

qualityjaisket · 24/03/2017 18:55

I own two hats like that Smile
