What random things have struck a chord with you?

Mine is a Postsecret card that said:

"Everyone who knew me before 9/11 think I'm dead"

I read it years ago but I think about that person. Family, parents, siblings.

Just one sentence but it's stayed with me fore years.

My best friend telling me to 'get over it' a few weeks after my stepfathers death. I don't know what possessed her to say it and I'll never forgive her.

I was very depressed as a teenager and would isolate myself alot. My best friend told me that another friend of ours told our group of friends that I was a "lost cause". Dunno why but I still hear that in my head alot.

As a student I was interviewing young offenders in prison using a couple of personality questionnaires. In came all the tough and wild young boys one after the other . All bravado but pleasant to me as I was a distraction . I was reading the questions and answers aloud and they selected answer verbally.
In the middle of the day in came one young guy around my own age . He was polite and answered honestly if a little awkwardly. But he had such beautiful blue eyes .. when I got to a question about how well you think you treat the people who love you , he answered

"I don't know ... no one has ever loved me "
, I have never forgotten my stupified silence for those heartbeat moments ..I was bereft of words...

I certainly came from a poor background , in a 'deprived' area but to meet a peer who had no one ever love him ..broke my naive heart . Then and now ..

My uncle telling me, when I was a teenager, that I was a free spirit and that I would always find my own path in life.

He was steaming drunk, but his drunkenness often gave way to such nuggets of honest wisdom.

I made a very major life changing decision a week after he said that. It will always stay with me. I doubt he even remembers...but it just made me see that someone saw me for me. Someone else could see through the BS that was going on at the time. That meant a lot.

Ok, guessing its negative things...

My mum whilst walking out of the door saying "stay there and rot with your father".

I could write a book about negative things people had done and said. Guess what, that was them.

Switch to positive, it works wonders.

My cousin giving me a dressing down about wasting my life / time after I left college and that I needed to get a grip and pull my socks up ... I left upset because I respected her opinion and knew she was right... I'll always be grateful for her home truths it really woke me up that day and got me back on track

Steppenwolfe that made me well up too. I also really hope he found love and is loved.

Steppen that's so sad. I'm not sure if have been able to finish the interview. Hopefully he was as evolved as he sounds and hence in with a chance in life.

My dad passed away 2 weeks ago,funeral a week ago. We had a complicated relationship & I hadn't seen him for years. Apparently,my sisters & I are feeling guilty,you didn't love him,it's just self indulgent now & you need to move on. This on the day after the funeral from my mum.

I had cancer In my twenties. When my thick, long, curly hair started to come out I was unreasonably sad about it. I said to my best friend. 'I can't lose my hair, it's my thing' he said 'no, YOU you are your thing.' It meant so much to me. He's still my best friend and my DS's.

A friend seeing me for the first time after I'd been seriously ill "wow you've lost so much weight, make sure it doesn't go back on"
Dfil when offered another chocolate "no thanks I don't want one. .well actually of course i do we all do don't we but I'd better not"

A meeting with a very serious player in the oil industry. He was head of a national oil company of a foreign not very wealthy state. Probably from an unremarkable background but his ability to negotiate all and everybody was breathtaking. Westerners can be very soft, ragged sometimes.

steppenwolfe, that's made me cry.

On the day of my father's funeral, about an hour from delivering the eulogy, my mum (having been divorced from him for 20 years) decided then was a good time to tell me she thought I'd loved him more and that I'd given no consideration to her feelings that day.

I've forgiven but I'll never forget.
