Is Voldemort a virgin?

OhShutUpThomas · 21/02/2016 21:07

And any other Harry Potter mysteries!

Can anyone answer mine?
Is Voldemort a virgin?
What happened to Rodolphus Lestrange?
Why do some spells take weeks and hours of homework to learn, yet Harry can imperious people by just saying it?

Anyone else? I've got more, can't think just now. Just finished re-reading!

Classics for sure! Best thread in ages!

Love the idea of voldy shuffling down the hall at 2am for a wee!
There was definitely sex going on at HW its hinted at a fair few times. With no tv and confined to the castle, what else it there too do on a cold evening?!
Cultural wise, a few singers/bands are mentioned but I think because harry's not overly fussed its never really expanded on.
ive also wondered how hagrids dad had sex with a giant - hes referred to as a little man as wellHmm. And YY why wasnt Hagrid formally apologised too and re gifted a shinny new wand, very unforgiving really!

Ive been on the studio tour twice and spent a fortune in the gift shop its well worth the trip & id seriously consider moving to Luton just to work there have debated if a 2.5hr commute would be feasible

I feel you all need to see THIS photo

Is Voldemort a virgin?
Hufflepuffin · 22/02/2016 14:47

The two-way mirror. The two-way mirror. The two-way fucking mirror.

I'll just leave it in my trunk and forget about the easiest and most discreet way of contacting my Godfather, and instead holler about the castle and stick my head into a fire, fail to contact him and lead him to his death when he inevitably comes to rescue me.

Then I'll find it a year later all smashed and think "I wonder if we can chat now he's dead", rather than "what a fucking idiot I am for leaving this in my trunk, why am I trusted with magic?"

This!!! I relistened to all the HP books twice last year and this annoyed me so much! I ranted about it to my dh but he kept reminding me it was fictional.

It also irritates me that when hermione finds Rita skeeter as a bug she puts her in a glass jar with an unbreakable charm on it... But Sirius and lupin just chain up Peter Pettigrew like a bunch of idiots so he can escape - despite the fact one of them is an escape artist and one is a defence against the dark arts teacher.

On the numbers of pupils, I read an interview with jk where she said she had thought there were 1000 students at hogwarts, but she said the the filmed feast scenes (using 300 cast and extras) "looked about right" so I think in my head it is a small school and actually most of the wizarding world do seem to know each other.

00100001 · 22/02/2016 14:49

The two -way mirror. Didn't Harry vow never to use it when he got it? Because he didn't want to lure Sirius out? so he probably forgot about the mirror. (you all forget Harry is a bit dim as well)

00100001 · 22/02/2016 14:50

and Hermione is exceptionally clever!

bruffin · 22/02/2016 14:51

Harry says to himself when Sirius gives the mirror to him that he wouldnt use the mirror because he didnt feel it was safe.

Titsalinabumsquash · 22/02/2016 14:55

C-Diggers would have been at it with Cho before he popped his clogs and Wood, he was the captain of the whole Quiddich team surely that's the equivalent of the jock quarterback at American high schools?

The Weasley twins would have been up to all sorts with the girls too I think, far too charming not to be.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/02/2016 15:30

WRT to Fanfic have a Google for "Pet Project" and "The Problem with Purity".

In fact, get into some Fanfic in general lots is much better written than the originals they tend to be quite good at answering questions...

SuffolkNWhat · 22/02/2016 16:13

As regards teachers being married, Neville marries Hannah Abbott and is Professor of Herbology. She runs the Leaky Cauldron so he either lives at Hogwarts during the week and visits London at the weekend or he Floo Powders home each night.

Fiderer · 22/02/2016 16:44

I think I read that Ian McKellen turned down Dumbledore because he'd just finished LOTR & didn't want to be always playing long-bearded wizards. Should have though.

Re the maths thing, I was badly lurgified a couple of weeks ago, couldn't even read. Laptop on strike & i wanted to listen to something. My d (who's 13 and listened to HP in the womb when I was reading it to her brothers) surprised me & put The Philosopher's Stone on my phone to cheer me up.

Harry's 1st Christmas at Hogwarts, there were 100 turkeys. 100! For how many children I don't know, but blimey. It is a lovely description of the day though.

Must get the other books. We had them all on cassette but I think some wore out. I've written this before on HP threads, some days I thought I should set a place for Stephen Fry because when I'd call the children to eat, I'd hear his voice coming out of at least 2 bedrooms.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 22/02/2016 17:09

I'm in the middle of a reread, at the end of OotP right now.each time I read it as I get older the worse I feel for Ron and Hermione, they both spend so long being injured and in peril and so on. Also I feel bad for Ron - prefect, Keeper, best friend of the top of the year and the most famous guy in his world and still not doesn't live up to his siblings.

I want to know who sets the exams? They don't appear to be international tests, so surely the teachers know what's on them and write the exams?

OhShutUpThomas · 22/02/2016 17:13

i can do without OOTP tbh, I always just skim it on a re read.

Heavenscent86 · 22/02/2016 17:37

I usually end up skimming GoF to be honest but love the others.

Re: Dinnertime - in OOP, Harry has detention at 5pm and has already had dinner, so it must be early.

DH spots plot holes all the time and I have to shout 'It's a bloody book'. Poor old JKR - every little slip up magnified by the obsessed like me

Hulababy · 22/02/2016 18:30

Love HP. Been to the Studio tour a couple of times with DD, and we have been to Wizarding World in Florida a few time snow too - came back from most reason visit about 10 days ago.

Now to go back and read it all!

Hulababy · 22/02/2016 18:34

Re school days. I suspect it goes back to more traditional days and they have "tea time" around 4:30pm, and then perhaps another meal (supper) later on. With prep and extra curricular in between times.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 22/02/2016 18:37

Right. Why can't harry see the thestrals from the beginning? He saw his parents die.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 22/02/2016 18:38

And I know it's just a book. I think it's a mark of the world Rowling built that we even have these discussions.

Paj11 · 22/02/2016 18:43

OhShutUpThomas, snapes "source" was Dumbledore. His portrait hangs in the headmasters office. And Dumbledore told him in order to maitain his cover he needed to give voldemore accurate info.😊

Hulababy · 22/02/2016 18:46

Oh and the latest on wizarding schools from JKR is here: www.pottermore.com/writing-by-jk-rowling/wizarding-schools

She says most families choose to home school. There are 11 long established international schools. There have been some smaller schools set up, been and gone, and it is hard to have exact numbers of those as they are rarely registered properly.

Mahoutokoro School of Magic - Minami Iwo Jima, Japan
Uagadou School of Magic - Uganda
Castelobruxo - Brazil
Beauxbatons Academy of Magic - France
Durmstrang Institute - Northern Europe (Sweden/Norway areas)
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - Scotland
Ilvermorny - North America (East coast)
Koldovstoretz - Russia

Plus presumably another 3 yet to be revealed.

OhShutUpThomas · 22/02/2016 18:50

OhShutUpThomas, snapes "source" was Dumbledore.

I know, but why would Voldemort believe that? Surely he wouldn't expect the order to still be giving Snape info after he killed Dumbledore?

OP posts:
wickedlazy · 22/02/2016 18:52

Harry didn't see the thestrals before because he didn't understand death at the time, and never really accepted it.

Did everyone else know the elder wand gad a thestral hair in it? (just found this out).

Hulababy · 22/02/2016 18:52

BoyFromTheBigBadCity - JKR answered that one

His parents died but he was too young to have understand what was happening, and possibly in his crib he wouldn't have seen it much either.
Though Quirrel died when he was present he had been knocked out by Voldemort beforehand. Also, there wasn't the connection for him to get over/accept.
Didn't see them in June after CD's death as he was still in shock and not accepting of his death.

bruffin · 22/02/2016 18:52

OOtp is my second favorite book to POA.
Harry should have been able to see the Thestrals at the end of GOF,as the horseless carriages are mentioned then ad they leave.
Hulababy
We are going to LA in september and going to universal. I think it will be a bit smaller than the florida exhibit

wickedlazy · 22/02/2016 18:54

He could believe snape was using intimidation and legilimency on the likes of mundungus though.
