Is Voldemort a virgin?

OhShutUpThomas · 21/02/2016 21:07

And any other Harry Potter mysteries!

Can anyone answer mine?
Is Voldemort a virgin?
What happened to Rodolphus Lestrange?
Why do some spells take weeks and hours of homework to learn, yet Harry can imperious people by just saying it?

Anyone else? I've got more, can't think just now. Just finished re-reading!

The bit of soul was represented by the whimpering baby under the bench at King's Cross. If Harry had caught a train ie chosen to die, the baby would have "lived"

How do you work that out?

The bit of soul is supposed to be Voldemorts actual soul, I've read. The 'flayed' bits were where bits of soul had been ripped off for the horcruxes. And then later on, Harry says 'I've seen what you'll become.'

I thought the thing under the bench at Kings cross was the part of Voldemorts soul that was a horcrux inside Harry. I thought it died because Voldemort cast the killing curse on Harry so effectively destroyed his own horcrux and he didn't even know it was there.

If Harry got on a train he would have died or 'gone on' but the horcrux was still destroyed. Didn't Dumbledore say something like 'there's nothing you can do to help it now' to Harry at Kings cross.

I've always wondered why Hermoine wiped her parents memories in the last book but Harry didn't wipe the Dursley's? Surely they would be in danger of death eaters wanting information about Harry?

00100001 · 26/02/2016 08:52

Harry didnget the Dursley's protected. And memory chamrs can be undone

TaraCarter · 26/02/2016 10:11

Harry didn't care about the Dursleys, which isn't surprising.

00100001 · 26/02/2016 10:14

I think he did care, in the way that you'd care about any human in danger. He certainly didn't love them sure, but to say he didn't care isn't true. Harry does care, it's in his nature.

MrsHathaway · 26/02/2016 10:30

Do we think Hermione undid her parents' memory charms?

I did wonder how it would actually have worked. Mr Grainger bibs up for his first patient and his dental nurse asks how his daughter enjoyed the wedding she was going to.

"What wedding? What daughter?"

Schenker123 · 26/02/2016 10:33

Didn't Harry become one of Voldy's horcruxs the night he killed Harry's parents?

it's interesting, because he isn't suppose to know that Harry is a horcrux, yet how didn't he put two and two together when he had such a strong connectionw with Harry?

Heavenscent86 · 26/02/2016 10:50

I have a vague recollection that when hermione cast the memory charm she used it to convince her parents they wanted to emigrate (Australia maybe?) and start afresh somewhere else. If I'm right thwy wouldn't have had questions about their daughter from colleagues and acquaintances at least.

00100001 · 26/02/2016 10:57

Yes, Hermione's parents memories were modified (not obliviated as in the movies) - they were charmed to believe they were someone else entirely and they went to Australia. Afterwards, Hermione found them and undid the charm

WonderingAspie · 26/02/2016 12:21

Yes I knew Hermoine's parents went to Australia, not knowing they had a daughter. She did say in the book she would hopefully track them done one day, I think.

I also understood it that Voldy destroyed his own horcrux because Harry intended to die. Harry had to want to die and not defend himself and Voldy had to be the one to do it (Dumbledore said this but never explained why). If Harry had gone on, Voldy's horcrux couldn't have gone back, the object it was in would have been 'destroyed', as in Harry would be dead.

Why was Seamus such a shit actor?! He was one of the worst! I know many of them weren't great as they were children but some of the side characters were really bad. I like DR, EW did really overdo Hermoine in some films, like GoF. Watched it at the weekend and she got right on my tits when she was huffing at Fred and George when they were trying to age themselves up, and when she sent Ron and Harry to bed after the Yule Ball. Forgot she had become their mother! And once someone pointed out her eyebrows, I can't unsee it now!

Yes! Thankfully she did get better but I was cringing watching GoF.

I don't get why they didn't get a bit more direction either! I know Hermoine was supposed to be bossy in the books, maybe they thought this was it rather than blatant overacting!

MrsHathaway · 26/02/2016 13:11

You should have seen her before HP.

Seriously, though, assessing the likely acting ability of a future 18yo based on an audition round at age 9 must have been an absolute chuffing nightmare. Watch CBBC for ten minutes to see how utterly crap child actors actually are.

Thanks for the clarification re: Graingers' memories. I'll ignore the impossible practicalities of sudden emigration.

MrsHathaway · 26/02/2016 16:34

MrsHathaway do you mean you knew EW when she was a nipper? And that she was an even worse actress?

I knew her when she was a nipper because in my Gap Yah I worked at her school and helped with the plays. For example, she was the swallow in a production of the Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde, and I designed and painted on her makeup every night. Nice child, but typical primary school lead IYSWIM and I certainly wouldn't have identified her as a Hollywood megastar/Face of Chanel etc etc. But then I'm not a Hollywood director!

I think they all grow tremendously as actors from HPPS to HPDH2. I think some of the woodenness people identify in EW as HG is the Hermione-ness, as she isn't like that in other stuff, and some of the rest of the woodenness is just misinterpreted poshness. Lady Mary Crawley gets the same accusations although her emotional range is pretty good too.

VoldysGoneMouldy · 26/02/2016 17:31

Why on earth did they use Mundungus Fletcher as the six Polyjuice Potter? There were far better members of the Order, surely? I know they were running a tad low on members by that point, but there must have been someone else.

Do you reckon Harry asked Mr and Mrs Weasley's permission to marry Ginny? How did he propose? When did he propose?

Did he ever pop back to Hogwarts to have a chat with Dumbledore's portrait? Or was that last chat they had (which makes me tear up) the end?

Did he regret his choices with the Resurrection Stone and Elder Wand? I can't help but feel that it would have been sensible to keep them. I totally understand the point of the plot where he didn't, but still...

What did Malfoy end up doing? Apart from giving his child an even more awful name than his own?

OhShutUpThomas · 26/02/2016 17:35

I like to think Harry would have been headmaster in the distant future.

Is anyone going to see The Cursed Child? I don't know what to think - it sounds potentially awful, but who knows?

VoldysGoneMouldy · 26/02/2016 17:38

Yes I like the thought of Professor Potter Smile

I've preordered the book, but couldn't get tickets when they first come out, so will go in the distant future. I'm kind of intrigued.

Merlin's Pants! Can't believe I've only just found this thread. Marking place.

TrinityForce · 26/02/2016 17:43

They were expecting Alastor Moody, the strongest wizard there, to be the one to fly Harry to safety. They put Mundungus - no great loss to anyone, unlike Harry/Ron/Hermione/Fred/George - with Moody because they expected him to be targeted.

DrSeussRevived · 26/02/2016 17:58

Oh, there are so many issues if you get into it! Dumbledore knew he was dying, he could've got a portrait done to talk to harry - but no!

SuffolkNWhat · 26/02/2016 19:15

There is one HC that has Albus Severus finding Snape's portrait at Hogwarts after being sorted into Slytherin. Snape sneers at him being a Potter until he notices the green tie and Albus' eyes. Exactly like Lily's...

ciabattav0nbreadstickz · 26/02/2016 20:24

I've wondered - the scene in the forest where Harry brings back his parents, sirius etc by using the resurrection stone just before he 'dies'. In the story of the three brothers the second brother's girlfriend is sad and cold in the mortal world as she doesn't belong there. So what happened to the 'ghosts' of his parents etc? Did they 'die' again after Harry 'died' and came back? Or did they just hang around forever being sad and cold?
