What sexist behaviour would be the most shocking if reversed?

I was thinking feminist thoughts to myself (as you do Grin ), and I was thinking about how this belief that sexism doesn't exist anymore creates a huge backlash against anyone who speaks out against it, which in turn makes people who do in fact believe in equal rights for men and women try to distance themselves from feminism because it's perceived as crazy and unreasonable. The problem is that a lot of it is so ingrained in our culture and society that it is completely normalised, and the majority of people don't even notice it anymore.

So what would be the most obvious, outrageous sexist behaviour, if we swapped the genders? Would it be men being followed, harassed and intimidated in the street, or on the music channel men gyrating and grinding dressed increasingly revealing clothing while women are all fully clothed? Men dancing in the windows of the red light district, or the overwhelming majority of politicians and CEOs being female?

What in your opinion would bring about the most uproar if one day sexism suddenly switched genders?

Sorry if any part of this doesn't make sense, I had a beautifully written OP all typed out and then my iPad lost it all for no apparent reason... Angry

Was just watching Glastonbury tonight and noticed that the band Rudimental ( great band) had about 10 fully clothes musicians and singers but the one female singer was practically in her underwear. Imagine if that was reversed...

Scarletohello · 27/06/2014 22:41

Sorry, meant to say, ten male musicians.

kickassangel · 28/06/2014 04:25

Your 10 year old boy would e worried about cat callers after being told he was good looking. Because even as young as 10 he knows that women can be aggressive and scary like that so being good looking is a negative thing.

Just had this conversation with dd. I am so mad at the universe right now!

Men's smart shoes would either hurt their feet or "look dowdy". Women's smart shoes would be comfortable.

A woman and a man leave a meeting. The man tucks his chair back under the table. The woman leaves hers pushed out and exits the room. Noticing this, the man straightens it up for her before leaving himself.

Has this one already been mentioned..?

Imagine if all the older, sage and distinguished gentlemen with decades of experience (eg journalists, politicians, tv presenters, newsreaders etc,) were replaced with hot young mid twenty year old beautiful men ...!

This thread is as shocking as it is an eye-opener, even for the well established feminist.

It should be used in classrooms as text book.

Video game characters would be female by default. Popular games like MariaKart would have a bunch of female characters with various attributes and a token male character who would be a prince. Most video games only feature male characters who need rescuing in some way.

The gaming world would be very excited by the game Tomb Raider which unusually featured a male character as the lead. He was dressed in tight clothing which showed off his massive ballsack which was to make the character attractive to female game players, even though someone with a ballsack that big probably wouldn't be much good at the physical feats required to raid tombs.

gymboywalton · 28/06/2014 13:33

would there also be a video game where female characters could have sex with male characters and then get extra points for murdering them afterwards?

Misfitless · 28/06/2014 14:34

gymboywalton..is that GTA you referencing?

I've heard horrific things about this game, but hqve no experience of it.

Have DS 8yrs old. Found out yesterday when his friend came to play that he (his friend) who is in Y3 has got this game Shock.

Sorry to de-rail.

Any pictures or footage of important world leaders or business people would be almost entirely women in expensive suits with only a few men in the group.

Business class on a plane would be 90 to 100 % female customers.

gymboywalton · 28/06/2014 15:18

yes grand theft auto-murder the prostitute to avoid paying them and get extra points. vile

It is indeed. It just shows how deep this goes, how ingrained it is in society.

It should be used in classrooms as text book

I agree completely. I was going to post that this thread is equally funny and frightening, but it isn't, it's more frightening than funny.

Misfitless · 28/06/2014 20:52

Oh gymbobwalton Sad. To think that an 7/8 year old boy could have access to this game breaks my heart.

Daughter-of-a-dog would be an insult, as would fatherfellator.

Because insulting a woman by insulting her male parent would be dandy. Just ask the president of Uruguay, who referred to the FIFA leadership as sons-of-bitches today.

Everything at Wimbledon would be purple and green, most of the souvenirs, all of the decals etc - except the men would get orange and brown towels.
