What sexist behaviour would be the most shocking if reversed?

I was thinking feminist thoughts to myself (as you do Grin ), and I was thinking about how this belief that sexism doesn't exist anymore creates a huge backlash against anyone who speaks out against it, which in turn makes people who do in fact believe in equal rights for men and women try to distance themselves from feminism because it's perceived as crazy and unreasonable. The problem is that a lot of it is so ingrained in our culture and society that it is completely normalised, and the majority of people don't even notice it anymore.

So what would be the most obvious, outrageous sexist behaviour, if we swapped the genders? Would it be men being followed, harassed and intimidated in the street, or on the music channel men gyrating and grinding dressed increasingly revealing clothing while women are all fully clothed? Men dancing in the windows of the red light district, or the overwhelming majority of politicians and CEOs being female?

What in your opinion would bring about the most uproar if one day sexism suddenly switched genders?

Sorry if any part of this doesn't make sense, I had a beautifully written OP all typed out and then my iPad lost it all for no apparent reason... Angry

With Theresa May leading the largest party in the coalition, the few male MPs would be referred to as "May's Macho Muffins"

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/06/2014 20:58

When you Googled 'Go Mummy' these would be the pictures that flashed up.

CheckpointCharlie · 25/06/2014 22:12

I found this so depressing to begin with. It's soooooo annoying!

I especially hate the darts dancers and booby paraders round any kind of fighting ring, esp cage fighting.

So mine is men gyrating unnecessarily in front of female darts players, pouting ridiculously at cameras, wearing some of nobles ball posing pouches and sashaying past shitloads of lairy, pissed women wearing Vikings hats and dressed as Tango adverts.

AnnieLobeseder · 25/06/2014 22:24

I want to wear a Viking hat!

I once made one for a fancy dress party out of half a hamster ball, some papier-mâché, a wire coathanger, a lick of paint and some fluff I snipped off my hedgehog slippers. Reckon I could do it again.....

annie here you are am I allowed to post that by the way??

Grin and still a bit Angry at all these.

HazleNutt · 25/06/2014 22:43

Everybody would assume that Dr or Prof Smith, or a CEO or a GM of a company is a woman. And that the only male employee in the office must be the assistant.

CheckpointCharlie · 25/06/2014 22:43

Oh and that was the only pic I could find that wasn't a sexy viking.

Is this the first ever FWR thread to get to Classics?

Thought of another work one.

In a female-dominated profession, such as engineering, one man has made it to a relatively senior level, by dint of being far more qualified than all the female engineers and working longer hours.

If any of the women, no matter how junior, need something photocopied, they hand it to the man to do.

RaisingSteam · 26/06/2014 00:35

Another engineering one. Men have to wear womens' uniforms and protective clothing (including dresses) because there apparently aren't enough of them in the industry to need to make it gender specific. It is dayglo pink, flowery and too short for most of them, but they are still expected to be taken seriously as professionals and do their job safely.

(tortoise you didn't by any chance see an article on your subject in your company e-magazine today? Very timely comment)

loveableshoulder · 26/06/2014 05:49

School mornings for dads would involve hearing songs sung by their children about how great they are at cooking, cleaning and shopping. Helping with homework is also great, though they don't have a degree. Maths activities include buying cake toppings.

Women's days involve making and shooting bottle rockets.

This school would be entirely staffed by men.

When a dad expresses frustration and outrage with all of this, other dads would look embarrassed and day they think it's just a nice set of activities and maybe he is overthinking it.

Beachcomber · 26/06/2014 07:02

All over the internet, and in adult stores, there would be videos of women sexually assaulting and torturing men. The men would be classed by race, age, body type. This would be considered entertainment.

(Bit depressing that one but it needed to be said.)

DoingItForMyself · 26/06/2014 09:16

KickAss that beach volleyball one is weird! I hadn't realised quite how odd it is to see decapitated men and shots focussing in on their bums and genitals, it is a very sexualising way to view professional sportsmen, and yet sportswomen are shown this way all the time.

Those captions underneath the photos of women referring to them as "a Spanish player" or "unidentified players" - erm yes, you can't identify them because you've only photographed their arse.

AnnieLobeseder · 26/06/2014 09:17

Adverts for popular condiments would proclaim that it is the "sauce of womanliness!" Because womanliness would be a positive trait that could be used to sell products.

No advertiser would ever have a campaign for "sauce of manliness", because who on earth would aspire to that?

tezzie · 26/06/2014 11:05

I agree with you all, women are discriminated against all the time, we pass it on to our daughters. It's Ok for men to sleep about but women are sluts. It's okay for ugly fat men to walk the street half naked, but women have to cover up. We have to keep ourself trim, look good, work and juggle kids. Although my partner is amazing and cooks cleans with me, I am sure if I walked down the road topless, he would have a fit.

MummyNoo3 · 27/06/2014 18:15

Men having to have the babies and then feed and look after them...?

sarine1 · 27/06/2014 18:35

A woman says in a meeting "Although I don't know anything about *...." then proceeds to bore everyone endlessly with their views about what they don't know about ! (a bit like the comments up thread....)

kickassangel · 27/06/2014 19:06

A thought I had from another thread.

Adam was punished for sin by being made to work hard in the fields. Look at how many labor saving devices exist so that we are now a very sedantry species

Eve was punished by having to labor in childbirth. Look at how little there is to make that easier.

AlwaysHopeful · 27/06/2014 20:18

This thread is so depressing I want to cry. Hmm

Nothing to add, other than appreciation of everyone's input for opening my eyes properly to the world I'm raising my children in.

I thought I understood sexism but I had drastically underestimated it...

How about yoghurt adverts featuring a sexy young man faking orgasm?

Crowd shots at football matches would include men jumping up and down enthusiastically with a crotch shot for maximum effect.

Advertising along the lines of:
That's why Dads go to -insert supermarket-
Trust us Dads, you're doing great
Male shampoo adverts with celebs orgasming in the shower
A pot noodle advert when a man dries his cock with a female towel.

It's depressing how easy it is to get on a bit of a roll isn't it?
