flies swarming at window, no answer door, house chock full of rubbish

that's just it really. Elderly-ish lady living a few doors down, no family nearby, hasn't put her rubbish out this week and no light on this evening.
Am I just being the worst curtain-twitcher ever or is thia actually very concerning? I got the shivers seeing all those flies. Do you think I should ring the council in the morning and see of there's someone who could pop round and check she's ok? I don't think o could cope if it turned out she was suffering in any way and I ignored her. However, perhaps she just likes living in a crap tip? oh dear, what should I do? (off for a fret)

Glad you called, hope it's nothing :(

RubyGoat · 09/01/2014 23:11

Good on you for calling. Hope she's ok.

TakingTheStairs · 09/01/2014 23:11

Well done for noticing and for calling 101 Thunder. I hope it's a positive outcome.

Turvytopsy · 09/01/2014 23:11

Well done op. So nice to know there are still people who care enough to notice. Makes me think of a programme I watched last year about a young woman who had been dead in her flat for 3 years before she was found. So so sad.

BigOrange · 09/01/2014 23:12

I was just thinking about the same thing Turvy such a sad situation. Well done OP, you've done the right thing.

Plomino · 09/01/2014 23:13

Of course you did the right thing OP . We go to such calls all the time . Far better we go and she's not there , or is safe and well , than she's ill , or fallen . Much much better . It's what we're there for .

fuckinghatehim · 09/01/2014 23:15

Good on you for noticing & for phoning. Hoping there's some good news soon.

Longdistance · 09/01/2014 23:18

Good on you for calling the police.

I hope it's nothing serious, but with flies around, it may well be :(

caketinrosie · 09/01/2014 23:21

Flies at the window can also mean her bins not been taken out..
She may well have gone into hospital,be on holiday or be with relatives. Don't wait until morning though, I'm of the uniformed tribe, we get calls like this in the middle of the night all the time it makes no odds to us makes us almost poo our pants with fear but honestly do call because you never know. Don't wait until morning just in case. Smile

CrazyHneedsSleep · 09/01/2014 23:22

Its good to know that their are decent people out their like you OP

OhCaptainDarling · 09/01/2014 23:22

Well done for noticing and taking the time to call. Better to have a neighbour that's pays attention and cares then not.

The lady who lived in the flat below me spent 3 days stuck in between her bed and a chest of drawers as she's fallen and broken her hip. She had been banging on the floor to the flat below, but they were away. I haven't seen her for a few days, but working full time you don't always see your neighbours. It was only when the local corner shop man said she haven't collected her papers, we called the poilce.

So glad we did she made a full recovery.

Hope it's nothing serious OP.

Thundercrackers · 09/01/2014 23:24

just an update for anyone who is concerned for the old lady- a police van showed up and they lit a torch through the window. A second van has just arrived and they have a battering ram. And now an ambulance. hope to goodness I haven't left this too long- am crossing all my fingers and toes now that she is just v deaf.

LamaDrama · 09/01/2014 23:26

GoofyIsACow · 09/01/2014 23:26

Doesnt sound like it op, they wouldnt be battering unless she was visibly injured or deceased. :(

Doinmummy · 09/01/2014 23:26

Oh dear. Let's hope she's ok

JanetAndRoy · 09/01/2014 23:26

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/01/2014 23:26

If she is dead bless her she has been home a while already if there are flies. You couldn't have stopped it.

You did a good thing calling I hope she's ok :(

Thundercrackers · 09/01/2014 23:26

and safely tucked up in bed. Might sign off now- seems a bit disrespectful to her to be commentating on someone's rescue from now on! Thank you mumsnet, your wise words have been very very timely this evening x
