flies swarming at window, no answer door, house chock full of rubbish

that's just it really. Elderly-ish lady living a few doors down, no family nearby, hasn't put her rubbish out this week and no light on this evening.
Am I just being the worst curtain-twitcher ever or is thia actually very concerning? I got the shivers seeing all those flies. Do you think I should ring the council in the morning and see of there's someone who could pop round and check she's ok? I don't think o could cope if it turned out she was suffering in any way and I ignored her. However, perhaps she just likes living in a crap tip? oh dear, what should I do? (off for a fret)

Glad you've decided to call 101 tonight. Hope there isn't a sad outcome.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/01/2014 22:44

Skiskiskis, 101 is the non-emergency police number. It's for things that you might need the police for but aren't life threatening emergencies. It's basically to stop people using 999 for things that don't need it.

PacificDogwood · 09/01/2014 22:44

Well, it might not be the worst of course, flies etc could be from rubbish, she might still be with family for the holidays, but she might be in trouble and getting somebody to check sooner rather than later is the best option.
If she has died, then nothing's lost either.
I am glad you care enough to have noticed.

RudolphLovesoftplay · 09/01/2014 22:44

I think you should call them now OP

Arkina · 09/01/2014 22:44

skiskiski 101 is the national number for non emergency calls to police. means you don't need to know your local police office number

BelleOfTheBorstal · 09/01/2014 22:44

101 is the number to call when you want to contact local police but don't think it's urgent enough to phone 999, Ski

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 09/01/2014 22:45

Please phone them now!

magimedi · 09/01/2014 22:45

I also think you should ring 101 - now.

MoogDroog · 09/01/2014 22:46

Do ring 101 tonight. I noticed an elderly and Bay-shit crazy neighbours front door was open yesterday and they sent someone within half hour to check. He was fine, I felt silly but they were fine about it.

ASmidgeofMidge · 09/01/2014 22:46

Coconutty - your initial post has left me speechless, tbh.

MoogDroog · 09/01/2014 22:47

:(

TerraNotSoFirma · 09/01/2014 22:48

I would probably call,to be on the safe side.

yellowflowers · 09/01/2014 22:49

I would call too.

LittleNoona · 09/01/2014 22:49

How sad Sad

Fingers crossed she's ok, but I can't believe that people don't just ring the bloody police as soon as the notice something amiss, how ever small or unimportant (not aimed at op but people in general)

If that was your mum or nan you'd want someone to do the same.

mousebacon · 09/01/2014 22:50

Oh no Sad

GinSoakedMisery · 09/01/2014 22:51

Hope the flies are just from the rubbish. Have you phoned?

AwfulMaureen · 09/01/2014 22:52

Noona I don't either. I'd have been knocking early this evening if I'd not seen her...and her lights weren't on. What's the harm from knocking and looking?

HyvaPaiva · 09/01/2014 22:52

Coconutty You said 'yep she's a gonner' and 'start a live thread'. That's not 'support for the OP', that's just nasty.

Really hope she's ok, OP.

Thundercrackers · 09/01/2014 22:52

I have just called 101 and they were amazing and are going to send someone round now. Thank you all so much for your advice- in hindsight of course I shouldn't have waited until tomorrow so thank goodness I asked! ive never been in this sort of scenario before and was worrying about whether the police showing up would scare her. However, let this be a lesson learned! I hope she's ok, it's freezing tonight.

FayKnights · 09/01/2014 22:52

Echoing all of the above, call the police now. DH is a police officer and wouldn't consider such a call a waste of time.

OnceUponAThyme · 09/01/2014 22:53

I would phone the police now. fingers crossed its nothing bad she's fine, but it's best to check.

TheresASnakeInMyBoot · 09/01/2014 22:53

I agree, phone now. I'd rather discover everything was ok now than alternative options tomorrow.

BeaWheesht · 09/01/2014 22:53

Glad you've called hope all is ok
