flies swarming at window, no answer door, house chock full of rubbish

that's just it really. Elderly-ish lady living a few doors down, no family nearby, hasn't put her rubbish out this week and no light on this evening.
Am I just being the worst curtain-twitcher ever or is thia actually very concerning? I got the shivers seeing all those flies. Do you think I should ring the council in the morning and see of there's someone who could pop round and check she's ok? I don't think o could cope if it turned out she was suffering in any way and I ignored her. However, perhaps she just likes living in a crap tip? oh dear, what should I do? (off for a fret)

?? poor lady, to have no one

Salmotrutta · 09/01/2014 22:54

Well done OP.

I hope that she's away on a holiday or something.

Sad
thruppenceworth · 09/01/2014 22:54

I was going to reiterate that you call the police out now. My husband is a police officer & has been called out to lots of the same type of situation. Some with happier outcomes than others.

fortyplus · 09/01/2014 22:54

Poor lady - imagine if she's fallen and broken a hip or something. From egg to adult house fly takes about 14 days so if she has died she will have been there a long time Sad Well done OP for caring - I'm glad you're phoning tonight.

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight · 09/01/2014 22:55

Is it in wolvo?
If so I've seen a lot of people commenting about this on a page I'm on and police checked, it was someone very much alive but living in dirty conditions.

Phone them anyway, they'll check an get back to you

bumbumsmummy · 09/01/2014 22:55

Police

FayKnights · 09/01/2014 22:55

Cross post Thunder. You've done exactly the right thing. Hope all is well.

Thundercrackers · 09/01/2014 22:55

littlenoona and awfulmaureen I know I should have called them earlier, I feel reallu guilty now. Somehow, during the day it seemed more plausible that she could just be a messy lady. Now that it's dark and freezing cold and her curtains are wide open, I'm just terrified for her.Sad

Well done for calling. Whatever the out come it was the right thing to do.

magimedi · 09/01/2014 22:56

So please that you have called, Thunder.

PacificDogwood · 09/01/2014 22:56

Well done, Thundercrackers - I hope for everybody's sake that they find nothing

PartyFops · 09/01/2014 22:56

Fingers crossed she's away visiting family. Hmm

JanetAndRoy · 09/01/2014 22:58

I hope she's ok. And that you are able to rest tonight knowing you've done what you can, whatever the turnout.

LittleNoona · 09/01/2014 22:58

Thundercrackers - that wasn't criticism of you honestly, you've done the right thing. But some people aren't found for weeks because nobody notices they haven't been out and about, lights no on, curtains not drawn etc.

You noticed and you've acted. Well done.

Hope she's ok.

Thundercrackers · 09/01/2014 22:58

sorry no, not in wolvo, further north a bit. I hope she is ok and that I have just waated police time.

OP posts:
Kahlua4me · 09/01/2014 22:58

The main thing is that you have called them now. You have done it whereas others do not bother.

As you rightly said, it was plausible during the day that her curtains were open, and one missed bin day wouldn't be noticed really.

Well done you for acting now.

loveliesbleeding1 · 09/01/2014 22:59

I hope she is ok, well done for calling the police.

makemineapinot · 09/01/2014 22:59

I hope she's ok, but you did the right thing x

TrinityIsAReindeer · 09/01/2014 23:00

well done for noticing

my late dps mum was found by the police very quickly after she died because someone cared enough to notice that things weren't as they usually were

kilmuir · 09/01/2014 23:01

You cared enough to notice, well done

PoopPoooDeDooo · 09/01/2014 23:01

Poor thing, hope she's OK

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 09/01/2014 23:04

Really hope this has a happy ending.

Mignonette · 09/01/2014 23:05

Good for you, OP.

You didn't walk on by.

yellowflowers · 09/01/2014 23:07

I think you're all being harsh on coconutty. Gallows humour right? Plus you are probably all checking for updates (as am I) so this is effectively a live thread and you are all part of it.

notapizzaeater · 09/01/2014 23:08

Better wasting police time, than she possibly be suffering.
