flies swarming at window, no answer door, house chock full of rubbish

that's just it really. Elderly-ish lady living a few doors down, no family nearby, hasn't put her rubbish out this week and no light on this evening.
Am I just being the worst curtain-twitcher ever or is thia actually very concerning? I got the shivers seeing all those flies. Do you think I should ring the council in the morning and see of there's someone who could pop round and check she's ok? I don't think o could cope if it turned out she was suffering in any way and I ignored her. However, perhaps she just likes living in a crap tip? oh dear, what should I do? (off for a fret)

Poor police. They have to do some awful things

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 09/01/2014 23:27

Hurrah! Grin

Geckos48 · 09/01/2014 23:29

By the sounds of it she is not coping very well at the moment.

Calling the police might well lead to her getting additional support and care that she desperately needed but felt unable to ask for . You did the right thing OP.

Valiant1 · 09/01/2014 23:30

SundaySimmons · 09/01/2014 23:33

One of my neighbours where I used to live got taken into hospital after becoming unwell at her daughters house.

Her daughter knew we looked out for her mother and spoke most days but didn't tell me! I was getting worried after two days after having knocked and looking through windows and was about to call police when the daughter turned up to get some of her mums things.

I was annoyed but relieved she wasn't hurt inside.

If you have an elderly relative, give their neighbours your phone number so if they suspect anything is wrong they can call you.

caketinrosie · 09/01/2014 23:33

valiant I almost weed at your story! pesky pelvic floor

OhCaptainDarling · 09/01/2014 23:33

At least the emergency services have arrived now.

Our (growing) ageing population in the country is a real concern!

PicklePicklePickle · 09/01/2014 23:42

It might not be as bad as it sounds.

A while back I heard banging coming from my neighbours house. I was under the impression that the gentleman was in hospital so I called 101. They sent 2 officers round immediately.

They were going to bash the door down which I was mortified about but they said it was better to be safe than sorry if there was an intruder or if the old gent was in there and had fallen.

Thankfully they managed to get hold of his daughter very quickly and she was able to come round and let them in. They think it was just the heating banging as he was still in hospital and there was no sign of anyone in there.
They requested that an ambulance be on standby too.

I now have the daughters mobile number which is good because a few weeks later I found him on the pavement, he had had a fall. I was able to call her and get her there quickly whilst the ambulance patched him up. He is such a nice guy too :)

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 09/01/2014 23:43

Poor lady. The DM of a friend passed away at home. All her family were very attentive but this one weekend everyone thought that everyone else was visiting her and nobody did. Such a sad story. Her family were gutted! Sad

foxy6 · 09/01/2014 23:43

I hope she is ok and well done for noticing and getting help. even of it is a case of she not there and not put the rubbish at least she will know what a good and caring neighbour she has.

QOD · 09/01/2014 23:43

Oh :(
Sad that no one else noticed. Hope you're okay?

Foxsticks · 09/01/2014 23:44
